Chapter 16: Todd Confronts The Monk’s Men

1285 Words
The boss began to tremble as Todd approached him. “Please,” he begged. “Stay away. We were just following orders…” “Sure.” Todd smirked. “You and Himmler, and every other obedient Nazi. Am I wrong…?” The boss began to back away from Todd, but it was not long before he hit the wall. He was desperate and he wasn’t thinking straight. “If you hurt me,” he whined, “I will charge you with assault. You will go to jail!” “Think again.” Todd laughed and said, “You broke into my house. I am well within my rights to defend myself. I could even kill you.” “But your d-dad owes us m-money,” the boss stammered. “We are the Repo Men. We are seizing his property. We have papers…” “But this isn’t my dad’s property.” Todd smiled and he crossed his arms beneath his chest. “Do you have papers to take control of my property?” He pushed man and said, “I don’t think so!” The boss’s face began to turn white as he began to realize that he had lost the high ground. “What are you talking about?” he asked. “Everything you see here belongs to me,” Todd replied. “Yesterday, my dad transferred this villa to me, along with all of his other belongings and all of his money. So, even if he owes you twenty billion dollars, it does not matter. He is penniless, and you cannot get blood from stone!”  Todd punched the man in the face, and he stumbled backward. Blood gushed from his nose, and he brought his hands to his face. “How d-d-dare you?” he stammered. “Don’t you know who I w-work for?” “So what?” Todd slapped the man across the face and said, "I don’t care if you work for the Asian monk! You broke into my house without cause. You tried to drive me away from my home. Aren't you afraid of the law?"   Suddenly, the mechanical voice in Todd’s mind spoke up. It said, “Congratulations to the host. Slap-Face Numerical Value increased by 5,000 points!” Todd grinned. So far, he had accumulated 21,000 Slap-Face Numerical Value. With this many points, he was eligible for two draws. Now, though, there was no urgency, so he decided to save them.   Back to business – he thought. Todd tied up the intruders, sealed their mouths with tape, and hid their bodies in the garden in the back yard. He had to go to class today. He would have time to interrogate them when he came back in the evening. There was one thing that he had to do before he left, though. He needed to go to the security booth. On his way out the door, Todd was surprised to see how much damage had been done to the front door. It could not be closed, but it did not overly concern him. It was a safe neighborhood. Everyone was rich, and there was no need for anyone to steal anything from anyone.    ***   When the security guard saw Todd walking towards him in his school uniform, and carrying a school bag, he was taken aback. This is not who he had expected to see. Something must have gone terribly wrong – the guard realized. The kid was only meters away, and he forced himself to smile. Then he said, Good morning, Master Todd. Are you  going to school? Todd chucked and the guard gave him a curious look. Then, without warning, Todd slapped him across the face. Almost immediately, the guard's face swelled. The smack had cracked his lip, and a trickle of blood ran down his chin.  The guard could not believe what had just happened to him, and he immediately prepared to fight back. Todd was not afraid at all, though. He stood with his head high and glared at the other man. “Go ahead,” he said. “Hit me if you have the guts! I would love nothing more than to lay you out on the ground.” Something about the look in Todd’s eyes made the guard uneasy, and his courage disappeared. He sighed as he let his fists fall to his sides. He frowned and said, "Master Todd, has there been a misunderstanding between us?" “I was attacked in my home!” Todd shouted. “That could only have happened with your assistance. Am I misunderstanding something? Were you hired to allow this to happen?” The security guard immediately understood why he had been hit, and he knelt and begged for mercy. "Master Todd,” he cried. “This is just one big misunderstanding. Those people said they were your friends, so I let them in. It was an honest mistake. I will call the police right away!” Once he had finished explaining, he stood up and took out his mobile phone, but after dialing a few numbers, he paused. Todd smirked and said, “Don’t let me stop you.” The guard did not know what to do. If he called the police, he would lose his job and go to jail. But if he did not, then he would be exposed, and Todd might kick the s**t out of him. “I am curious to see what your next move will be,” Todd continued, “especially now that Jarod is gone. I promise that you will never see him again, so don’t count on back up from him. Maybe you should consider changing employers. Whatever you do, you should know for next time not to provoke me. I am sure that you would hate to have a repeat of what happened today.”  Todd patted the security guard's cheek, right where he had slapped him, and his cold smile made the man feel like he had fallen into an ice cave. Finally, Todd walked away, and the security guard watched him go. He was in a daze. He did not understand how this kid had become such an imposing person, seemingly overnight. The guard had served in the army, and Todd was no less imposing than a general, or any other commander he had worked under.   ***   When Todd arrived at school, he was not surprised to find that he was the center of attention. As soon as he parked his car, heads began to turn, and as he stepped on to the sidewalk, the students began to gossip amongst each other. Unlike in the past, though, when they had taken every opportunity to compliment him, today they were waiting to see him make a fool of himself. Of course, he was prepared for this. It had happened this way in his previous life. One student stepped forward and said, "Wow! If it isn't the prince of D.S.G. Unlimited!" Up until today, Todd had been a campus overlord, and although no one had dared to compete with him, it did not mean that no one was jealous of him. Now that things were looking bad for Todd, these kids were like sharks that had caught the scent of blood in the water. Another boy stepped forward. He said, "Ha-ha! This is no prince! Didn't you watch the news? His father has been dethroned. His company went bankrupt, and he absconded to Europe!” Everyone was staring at Todd. They wanted to see how he would respond.
