Episode 2: Meeting

723 Words
The pack gathered in the meeting hall, their faces tense with worry. Marcus stood at the front, feeling the weight of their fear. He knew he had to keep them united and strong, even though doubts gnawed at his own mind. “Everyone, please, settle down,” Marcus said, raising his hand for silence. “We need to talk about what happened.” Liam, the senior pack member, spoke up first. “We’re all scared, Marcus. That rogue’s death was brutal. Who could do such a thing?” Marcus nodded. “I understand your fear, Liam. But we must stay calm. We need to figure out who’s behind this and why.” A young werewolf named Sarah stood up. “What if it’s another pack? Or hunters? We need to protect ourselves!” “We will,” Marcus assured her. “We’re doubling our patrols. No one goes anywhere alone. But we also need to look within. There could be a traitor among us.” The room fell silent. The idea of a traitor was terrifying. Marcus could see the suspicion in their eyes. They were starting to look at each other differently. “Marcus is right,” Elara said, stepping forward. Her voice was calm but firm. “We need to be careful and trust each other. Panic will only make things worse.” Elara’s words seemed to calm the pack a little. Marcus was grateful for her support. He took a deep breath and continued. “We also need to investigate the symbol I found. Elara believes it’s old magic. We need to find out what it means.” As the discussion continued, tensions started to rise again. Some pack members argued that they should isolate themselves, while others thought they should go on the offensive. Marcus struggled to keep the conversation focused and productive. Suddenly, a howl pierced the night. It was a warning howl, loud and urgent. Marcus’s heart skipped a beat. “Everyone, stay here,” he ordered. “I’ll check it out.” He rushed outside, Elara close behind him. The night air was cool and crisp, but the tension was palpable. They followed the sound of the howl to the edge of their territory, where a patrol member, Alex, was waiting. “What happened?” Marcus asked. Alex pointed to the trees. “I saw something—or someone—moving out there. It wasn’t one of ours.” Marcus’s senses went on high alert. He scanned the dark forest, but saw nothing. “Stay sharp,” he told Alex. “Elara and I will check it out.” As they moved deeper into the forest, Marcus felt a growing sense of unease. The shadows seemed to close in around them, and every rustle of leaves made him jumpy. Elara walked beside him, her eyes scanning the surroundings intently. After a few minutes, they reached a clearing. Marcus stopped and listened. He heard a faint sound—like whispering. He motioned for Elara to stay quiet and moved closer. In the center of the clearing, he saw a figure. It was cloaked and hooded, standing perfectly still. Marcus could feel the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. This was no ordinary intruder. “Who are you?” Marcus demanded, stepping forward. “What are you doing here?” The figure turned slowly, and Marcus caught a glimpse of pale skin and dark eyes. “I am here to warn you,” the figure said in a low, raspy voice. “The shadows are rising. You are not safe.” “Warn us about what?” Marcus asked, his voice steady despite his fear. “Who sent you?” The figure did not answer. Instead, it began to dissolve into the shadows, disappearing before their eyes. Marcus felt a chill run down his spine. This was no ordinary magic. “What was that?” Elara whispered, her voice shaking slightly. “I don’t know,” Marcus admitted. “But we need to find out. And fast.” They returned to the pack, their minds racing with questions. Marcus knew that whatever was happening, it was bigger and more dangerous than they had imagined. They had to be ready for anything. The shadows were closing in, and the pack’s survival depended on uncovering the truth.
