King Of Monsters

Chapter 1 The world as we knew it was gone. In just under 20 years supernatural creatures such as Lycans, werewolves, vampires, witches, and other nightmares ran rampant taking over the world, killing, and kidnapping humans whenever they wanted. The authorities were completely unprepared and quite frankly useless, and others had been paid to look the other way no matter what. The few humans called ‘Hunters’ that knew about these creatures’ existence tried to fight back and teach others to as best they could but ultimately lost. They had built safe havens for their families and some others, but the scale of devastation was so great that very few ended up making it to these safe places, there locations are hidden for protection even now. News stories from all around the world reported the same horrors not knowing what to do, armies were decimated in minutes, and weapons didn’t seem to make much damage, governments fell, and anarchy and panic prevailed. It was all like some horror movie. and while not all supernatural creatures enjoyed the torture and killing of humans, some even trying to stop it, just wanting to live in peace without having to hide, most had given into a horrific monstrous nature to hurt. I was a baby when it started, I don’t know anything about my family before, I just know that I was found alone and covered with blood, crying, the only tie I have to them is a gold locket with a red gem in the centre with the name Amara engraved on the back that was found with me. Thankfully I had been found by one of the Lycan Queens household, they took me to the queen, and she took me in and raised me beside her own children as if I were one of her ‘Pups. She raised her son Ben, their oldest child and next in line to be king, to be kind and accepting towards me and other humans. The King accepts me to an extent, but has never been particularly parental, He doesn’t find me guilty for being a human, but me being around opens his family up to ridicule and attacks, so he sees me as a weakness, which I kind of understand. The King and Queen have tried very hard to create a co-habitation between the supernatural in their kingdom and humans, trying to create unity and the Lycan/werewolf kingdom under their rule has become a sort of refuge for humans. That’s not to say that they live much better than anywhere else. Certain werewolves and Lycan's still see us as weak and underserving of life. As if our very existence insults theirs. So, some humans are still r***d, murdered, kidnapped, beaten, and used as slaves or just hunted for sport. The king and queen have tried their best to find and stop those responsible but there is only so much they can do without turning other supernatural's against them. My life is much better than theirs praise the moon Goddess. She’s the Goddess of the night, the creator and mother of sorts to all Lycan's and werewolves. Being raised with wolves I’ve adopted her as my own. The moon Goddess and The Queen are the only mothers I ever remember having. Yes, I do call her the Queen formally, but whenever it’s just us, I call her mom. It’s just polite and being a human apart of the royal family who host events and meet important officials from other kingdoms very often, most take notice and offence at me being present, so being on my best behavior is something I take seriously because my life literally depends on it. Our family consists of 7 people. Mom and Dad, Mom is a Lycan who was born into the royal line, Dad is actually a werewolf who turned out to be moms mate and married into it, they met at a mating ball held in the vampire kingdom when they were 23. Then there's my siblings Benjamin, who’s almost 20, he's a Lycan like Mom, There’s Me, Amara, also almost 20, at least we think so anyway. The twins Sarah and Salome, Sally for short, who are almost 18, they are werewolves like father, and Nicolas who is 15, were not 100% sure whether he's Lycan or werewolf yet, we wont know until he hits 16 and shifts for the first time. Everyone is very excited about Ben’s birthday. Turning 20 is a huge deal for werewolves and Lycans but Lycans especially. it’s when they “become of age” to be able to find their mate and come into any powers the moon Goddess may have blessed them with. Mates are like what humans call soulmates, they’re the other half of that person, the moon goddess created them to be together. There is this supernatural connection between them from the moment they touch and make eye contact. They feel each other’s emotions, injuries, they can even mind link which is like reading each other’s minds, only people belonging to the same pack or family can do this though unless you’re marked and mated. Unfortunately, being a human, I don’t have a mate which I forget sometimes. All supernatural's have something akin to mates. Vampire's call theirs amatus, which means beloved in Latin, I'm not sure what shifters or witches call theirs. Mates also share some of each other’s abilities if they have any. You see Lycans and werewolves are different. With werewolves, male and female alike both get their wolves at the age of 16 and at 20 can find their mates. Whereas Lycans are an ancient purer ancestor of werewolves, more directly related to the moon Goddess which is why some Lycans can be born with certain abilities and powers while werewolves cannot. but even without these gifts all Lycans are naturally stronger, faster and their wolves when they shift are much larger. Male Lycans get their wolves at 16 as well but female Lycans don’t get their wolves until they find their mates, Mom didnt get hers until she was almost 24, sadly some never do. The royal family I’ve been adopted into are Lycans and their line goes back at least 400 years, which means their family is more likely to be blessed with extra abilities. I know all this because I spend most of my time in the very extensive library. I can’t exactly join in on some of the ‘normal’ day-to-day activities, that and I realized very quickly that I will never be the most beautiful, the strongest or the fastest in a room and that I can’t help, but I can be the smartest. So, I read the history and lore of supernatural creatures. At this point I probably know more about them than themselves.
