When I woke up in the middle of the night for some unknown reason, I nearly screamed when I saw someone sitting on the edge of my bed. It was Hunter. “Hunter?” I called out, panting. My heart was hammering against my chest, and I inched closer to the headboard as if trying to put some distance between us. “I’m sorry,” he said in a low voice. “I didn’t mean to scare you?” “What are you doing here?” I asked, not caring to hide my agitation. “You scared the living hell out of me!” There was a sliver of moonlight lighting the room from the parted curtains behind me.
