From The Start
Natasha who is 17 turning 18 lives in central Australia with both parents who love her dearly. 2 older brothers Nathan who is 25 and Josh 22 and a younger brother named Jericho 10. Being the only girl Natasha can get away with most things when it comes to her parents. Her older brothers usually get the blame in those situations.
*Natasha's POV
My ears are buzzing as my alarm is constantly going off at 6am. I roll over to hit snooze only to be woken up again in 5mins from the same alarm. I groan just wanting to close my eyes for a couple more minutes when suddenly a wet tongue wipes across my cheeks.
"Good morning to you too" i groan at my 1 year old rescue pit bull slobbering me in kisses.
"Hows my big boy" i say playfully scratching behing his ears. His name is Chomper he was left in a bag and put in a rubbish bin at 8 weeks old before i stumbled across him on my way home from school. It took a lot of convincing and i mean a lot to get my parents to agree for me to keep him. They eventually gave in after we made a deal that i will do all my chores without being told, my allowance had to cover his food and i will need to toilet train him. It is going pretty well so far. I had successfully toilet trained him after 3 long yucky months but it was totally worth it now.
Chomper jumps off my bed and starts scratching at the door letting me know he needs to go outside. I open my bedroom door and he sprints downstairs to the back door waiting for me. I managed to get there and open it before he starts whining. He sprints out of sight into the forest that sits in our backyard. 5 mins roll past as i stand here waiting for Chomper to complete his duties.
"Chomper here boy" i yell out looking in the deep woods.
A large black figure appears in between the trees in the distance. I try to focus my eyes hoping to see more but all i can make out is a strange looking dog. Chomper interrupts my focus as he bolts past me back inside making me stumble and nearly fall. When i look back towards where the black figure was there is nothing in sight. I scratch my head confused at what i saw. Are my eyes playing tricks with me? I wonder. I try to figure out what it was i saw but nothing comes to mind. Chompers bark pulls me from my thoughts and i already know he is in the kitchen waiting to be fed. I give him food and water then head back upstairs to get ready for career day. Today we must dress up as what we want to be once we graduate and explain why in front of our core class. I head for the closet and grab my lawyers suit that is nicely ironed and hanging up. After a shower i freshen myself up with a light touch of concealer and foundation wanting to be as natural as possible. I do my hair in a slick bun and make my way to the kitchen for breakfast. My mind begins to wander to the figure i seen in the woods as i prepare myself some scrambled eggs and toast.
What could it have been?
Is my mind just playing tricks on me?
I remember being able to see two glowing eyes looking right at me?
Was i just half asleep seeing things?
In the middle of my internal questions my oldest brother Nathan walks in and drags me from my thoughts.
"Yes thats breakfast for 2 im guessing?" He says while rubbing his palms together and licking his lips.
"Sorry sir we're all out of eggs, will that be just toast for you?" i say jokingly.
"Hoh how absurd to not have left any for the rest of us" he goes along with it sounding so dramatic.
I put 2 extra bread in the toaster for him and dish us both a plate.
"Why the suit?" he questions as i sit at the table across from him.
"Career day duh"
He looks at me with a confused look.
"What are you going as? A brat in a suit?"
"Haha very funny" i say sarcastically.
"I am going as a lawyer dummie"
"Oh ok that explains the weird looking blazer then" he laughs at me.
My mother walks in and greets us both.
"Good morning you two. Is your father back yet?"
"Not yet mum it's 7.30am now so he should be home in half an hour" my dad works overnight he starts at 10pm and gets home around 8am. He doesn't really talk about what he does but i think it is something to do with security. The little information he told me about protecting people is what led me to believe that.
"You look lovely in that suit darling" my mum compliments my outfit.
"You already look like you could take over those courtrooms" she says winking towards me. I appreciate the gesture and buff my chest a little making Nathan chuckle and nearly choke on his mouthful of eggs. I laugh at him trying to clear his throat by punching on his chest. That's when Josh walks in and starts slapping him on the back laughing.
"Dont worry big brother i got you" he says as he starts to smack harder and laugh to himself sending me into laughing fits.
Nathan fights back and reaches back to put Josh in a choke hold until he taps out. I still can't believe they fight like this at their age. Yet again they still live with Mum and Dad.
As we finish up our breakfast in laughter dad walks through the door. He looks tired and drained like always but still manages to put a smile on his face and greet us all good morning. He fixes him a coffee and sits down with us to talk about what each of us had planned today. Nathan was heading out for basketball training, Josh was going on a date with some girl it annoyed me how Josh would talk about her i don't know why it just did. Mum and Dad were basically drooling finding out Josh had found someone that they already asked the 'grandchildren' question. Luckily my bus alarm went off and broke that conversation up. I say my goodbyes and kiss my parents heading out the front door towards the bus stop.
