Chapter 1
Make you believe Roxanne Many people want to believe in magic. That those creatures of the night really exist, that on Halloween night a portal opens between their worlds and ours. They say that these creatures only show themselves in the night. They claim and own their territories and the moon is their Goddess. But the truth is that those who really own the night... We are. The flashlights turned on and I took another deep breath behind the thick red curtains. I've always wanted this. Broadway. My costume was absolutely breathtaking. With a long silky skirt that waved with every step of mine and a lovely neckline that just made my curvy figure even more exotic. My hair was the definition of perfection. I could smell the scent of my perfume mixed up with success and hear the soft chatter of the audience. I heard the music start and my heart skipped a beat. I heard my name being announced. - Roxanne... - Ladies and gentlemen please welcome the one and only... - Carolina ...! - ROXANNE! - I shook my head and suddenly came back from the clouds. My expensive dress was a simple costume with lots of feathers and glitter. The scent of the perfume was switched by the smell of hairspray and cigarettes. One of my colleagues was shouting at me to finally move and I heard the same music I hear every Friday night. The thick red curtains disappeared, but the flashlights stayed. They were so strong that they almost made my dress see-through. The music started and I walked in my heels to the center of the stage. I barely paid attention to my dance routine or the music. I saw many familiar faces a few new ones. Our club was just right next to the highway and many men stopped by to have some fun. And my job was to get as much money out of their pockets as possible with the shaking of my booty. I climbed at the pool in the middle and started to turn around and around while the music played. "Any way you want it, that's the way you need it, any way you want it" - I got rid of most of my clothes only to keep dancing in sexy underwear and think about the irony of this situation. All the ways I wanted I couldn't get it. But I'll. As long as others can believe in UFOs or Fairies, my dream can't be that impossible. After my dance, I walked backstage and changed into another outfit while I counted the money I gathered together from the dance floor. Some of the other girls looked at me with envy. I heard one of them, I think her name is Kelly, complain to her empty-headed friend. - I hate to come after that b***h! Many men spend their money on her pathetic twitching instead of giving it to me. - her friend scoffed. I saw their annoyed glanced from my mirror and I turned around in my chair. - Quality must be paid for. - I said and fan myself with the dollar bills I got. - You are just a cow! - Kelly said and I stood up pointing at my body. - This is a gold mine. But there is no mine without mountains. - she put her hands on her none existing waist. - What do you mean by that?! - I stood up and walked to her. I leaned closer so my boobs looked even bigger and whispered. - Since you are lacking intelligence I'll explain it to you. Men like curves. - I said and saw her face turning red. I grabbed a twenty-dollar bill and put it between her tiny t**s. - What are you doing?! - she asked and I gave her an innocent-looking smile. - Consider it as charity. There are many opportunities today that can help you be less flat than an ironing board! - her name was called and Kelly walked out on stage while I sat back on my chair. - Why are you so mean to her? - I heard a familiar voice from behind me. - Don't you think it is funny that you only appear when I roast her, but you are never around when she does the same? - Clarissa my roommate sat next to me and said. - Coincidence. You know she had a hard life. - I guffawed. - None of us is here because of fun! - I said and the most unique colleague of ours walked by us. His name was Simon but only here he ran by the name Spice! I added with an amazing glare. - Okay, except her. - Clarissa giggled and I leaned back. - Seriously can't you just let Kelly be? - Clarissa, if someone asks for being slapped in the face, they must get it. The day she stops being a b***h I'll do as well. It's not my fault that I'm better. - Clarissa rolled her eyes and pat my shoulder, it was her turn on stage. I put my money away and looked at my reflection in the mirror. I was exactly the definition of Latina. I had lightly bronzed skin with a bigger rounded ass, long legs, firm boobs, and an incredibly small waist. The only thing that popped out of the perfect image was the eyes I inherited from my alcoholic, abusive father. I hate my hazel eyes. Whenever I looked at them I remembered him stumbling into the kitchen, smelling like cheap liquor and cigarettes. He was the reason I've never tried cigarettes and always paid attention to the quality and quantity of alcohol I consumed. In the beginning, he only used to shout and throw something at me whenever I tried to talk to him. Later it got worse when I started to mature. I shook my head to get out the image of him trying to kiss me while he was so drunk that he couldn't see. I played with my long wavy hair while listening to the song that was playing on the stage. I sighed and got up to change my outfit. Soon it will be my turn again. I put on a black dress which had shoulder off short sleeves, it was extremely short and only covered totally my undies. My black lace bra got almost completely exposed. I fixed my hair and put on matching black heels. Clarissa walked back behind the curtains and smiled. - Today at least we got some nice fresh meat. - she said with a wink and I shrugged. Our taste in men was very different. She loved Latino men and I preferred the outstanding guys. A good tattoo, interesting eyes, or extreme height could get me off of my feet. But my interest in them always stayed platonic. I had a goal to reach and that wasn't getting hooked up by a one-night-stand guy behind our club. The song started and I walked out with determination on my face. I've heard the same old lyrics from Lucy Hale's song, "Make you believe", but I couldn't help to enjoy my own performance. This song made me feel alive and focused on my dream. Although this night was different. I usually don't look at the crowd just throw kisses towards them, but today I had my eyes fixed on the most handsome man in the world. He looked pissed off and bored, also he had such an arrogant posture that I felt my palms itching to wipe that expression off of his face. I flashed him a smile and fixed my eyes on him while the song said: "I'll make you believe in me... I can be what you want me to be, tonight is the night, when I'll make you see, that I can be anything, anything anything You want from me..." The song ended and I winked at the mysterious man before I walked backstage. Clarissa ran to me blushing and asked. - Have you seen him?! - I shrugged. - He is handsome but had an expression on his face that makes me want to teach him a lesson. - Clarissa's eyebrows ran up to her forehead. - What are you talking about? He had been smiling all along during my performance! Oh, those brown eyes! I hope he would try to reach me! - I don't think we are talking about the same man. - I said with a smile. She was so adorable when she" fell in love" from time to time with a handsome stranger. Suddenly a guard walked in and tapped Clarissa's shoulder. - Excuse me Cherry, but there is someone who would like to talk to you. - Cherry was Clarissa's stage name, we never told to anyone our actual names, for our own safety. Mine was Carolina. I don't know why, I just liked the way the name sounded and it fit me pretty well. Clarissa nodded to the guard and she glanced at me. - Carolina, come with me! - she said and I followed her to talk with her dream man. When we were in a private room with the guard at the door something unexpected happened. A tall man, who could've been my cousin, walked in. He was really well built with short black hair, a freshly shaved face, and big brown eyes. He flashed a smile at Clarissa and I saw her getting goosebumps. He leaned and kissed Clarissa's hand which she thanked with a childish giggle then he turned to me. - Is she your bodyguard? - he asked and I had to smile at this comment. I imitated a flexing man and asked him.
