Chapter 25

Changes Jeremy I dig and dig the icy ground and hurried as much as my wolf's paws could. The wind blew covering us with snow and only making our goal harder to reach. Rico was digging by my side and I felt the anger and worry coming from him. His anger was alright and I couldn't blame him. I was angry at myself as well. "- If you wasn't so stubborn she wouldn't have been in that situation! If we loose her, I'll never talk to you again."-Ulric said. Our claws finally hit something else than snow and dirt. It was a small wooden box. I saw a tiny hole on the top of it. I ripped off the top of the box to reveal my mate. My barely alive, half frozen mate. I shifted into my human form and gently lifted her out of the box. Her nails were all broken. Her heels were destroyed and her fingers were covered with dried blood and full of wood splinters. Her beautiful sun-kissed skin was now almost white and her charming lips were blue. We shared an uneasy look with Rico and before he could've asked I answered. - She is still alive. Take Cherry home and explain her what happened. - Are you sure you want me to tell her everything? - I knew what he meant by this question. - Yes. If you love her and trust her, tell her. - Rico nodded and I mind-linked our Pack doctor to be ready because in a few hours I'll need his help. I grabbed Roxanne and held her close to my chest to feel her weak heart beats. My body was warm enough to keep her in a little better condition than she had been until now. I ran. Without caring about anything or asking permissions. If anyone tried to get in my way I would have killed it at this rate. In less than three hours I got to the board of my territory where the doctor have been already waiting for me. We entered to his examine room and I laid Roxanne on the bed. The doctor checked her heart and shook his head. - Would you explain to me Alpha, what happened to this human? Her heart barely beats, she has serious froze bites on her fingers. - I sighed and took a deep breath before I told to the doctor what happened. He snapped at me by the end of my story. - I knew you were stubborn and cold-hearted but are you really this stupid?! - I pushed him back and growled at him. - Watch your mouth Uncle! I know it as well but I'm still your Alpha! - my uncle, the pack doctor just scoffed and called a nurse. She brought a hospital attire to Roxanne and also heating blankets. They sent me put while the nurses undressed the still unconscious Roxanne and washed her body. After more than an hour of waiting I could finally enter to her room. While they tried to save her life I've been walking up and down in front of her room. - She got all the necessary vitamins and her body temperature is getting better. We also treated her hands but she is not through the danger yet. - Greg said. I put aside my hard feelings for her being a human and an exotic dancer. At this moment the only thing that mattered was that my mate stayed alive. I had no idea what would I do if she doesn't make it through the night. I was standing next to her but afraid to hold her hand. Al this happened because of me. - Thanks Greg. When will we know if she is out of the danger? - I asked being afraid of the answer. - That's up to her. But honestly, I don't think she'll ever fully recover from this. - What do you mean? - Greg sighed and frowned his eyebrows together. - Humans are a lot more fragile than us. Not only physically, but emotionally. Our world is sometimes unbelievable for them and there is a high chance that her brain won't be able to process everything that happened. Her personality might change or she will have posttraumatic stress syndrome... Also, the injury on the back of her head concerns me a lot. It is a miracle that she survived it. But I can tell you more about it when she wakes up. - I nodded and Greg walked put to give us some space. I sat next to Roxanne's bed and still couldn't touch her. I just looked at my beautiful mate, hoping that when she wakes up, she'll scold me for being and i***t. That she'll forgive me and be that fiery, irritating human she was before. I can't accept her as mine, but I couldn't watch her die. Her death might solved my problems ...The door of her room opened and I jumped up alerted. I was ready to protect her and got confused by my own emotions. Cherry rushed through the door, with her eyes filled with tears and she rushed to Roxanne. - Roxy! Roxy wake up! It's me! Clarissa! Please open your eyes! I'm lost without you! - she cried and hugged Roxanne. A soft growl left my chest and Clarissa noticed it. She stood up and walked to me. - Clarissa, don't! - Rico said but it was late. Clarissa slapped me. My wolf got irritated but, I knew I deserved it. My hands were shaking and Rico ran to Clarissa to hold her back before I got out of control. -This is your fault! Because you think you are better than us! Let me tell you something, whatever happened to you is nothing compared to what she had been through! - Clarissa shouted. My anger and the pain from the past mixed with the recent pain. It came to the surface and I snarled at her. - DID SHE LOST THE LOVE OF HER LIFE BECAUSE OF A HUMAN?! - Rico's eyes widened and Clarissa just chuckled. - No. Did you get harassed? Did your classmates tried to rape you and kicked you? Did your own father tried to get physical with you, without your mother helping you? Did you get alone when you were sixteen?! Did you get raped?!? Did you spent a month in jail because you killed the one who raped you, but no one believed it because of your entities?! - I felt like the air got kicked out of my chest. I glanced at Roxanne and the thought that she had been raped, that someone touched and hurt my mate got on my nerves. I felt my eyes turning black and I knew if she didn't kill him already I would go and rip that human apart. Clarissa sighed. - Judging by your reaction the answer is, no. She had been through all that and now she is on the verge of dying only because you think you are better! She is way too good for you! - Do you have any idea who you are talking to? - I asked and tried to calm my growing anger down. - Yes, Rico told me everything. - Clarissa took a step closer and looked into my eyes. I smelled her fear and saw her hands shaking, but still, she kept strong. - What is your decision then? - I asked and got her out of guard. - I... I don't know yet. - she glanced at Rico and he gave her a smile hugging her gently. - You are not in a rush. Let's go to my apartment for tonight and we'll visit Roxy tomorrow. - Rico said and Clarissa looked at her friend uneasy. - Don't worry, he won't hurt her. - Clarissa sighed and glanced at me again. - That would be the last thing he does. - she said before Rico escorted her out of the room. I sat back on the chair and kept looking at Roxanne all night long, waiting for her to wake up.
