Chapter 23

Roxanne! Jeremy We were on our way back to my Pack. As we got further and further, my mind calmed down but my heart kept bumping like a machine. We were already at least two hours away from the Sunset Pack when I felt a sharp pain in my chest. At first, I tried to ignore it. Maybe someone was just flirting with that slut... The pain became more and more intense. Panic attacked me. - Turn back! - I shouted at Rico. He shivered all over his body. - Jeremy what the f**k!? You scared me to death! - he complained, but I had no time for this. - I said turn back! - We only left a few hours ago! You wanted to get away as soon as possible. What's going on? - he asked and when our eyes met he hit the break and turned the car back. The wheels creaked and Rico stepped into the gas pedal, so hard that I thought his leg might hit a hole on the car. - What do you feel? - he asked, but I couldn't answer. The pain was excruciating, I felt fear. I knew this wasn't mine. As the pain and fear came, it ended. But this only freaked me out more. - It ended... - What should I do now? - Rico asked and I knew the answer even if I hated it. - Let's get back and bring them out of there! - Rico grinned and we almost flew back to the Sunset Packhouse. The feeling of discomfort and lingering fear didn't stop. Something was seriously wrong with Carolina. f*****g bond! f*****g slut! Why can't I just live in peace?! Why can't I just find a chosen mate?! No! I had to find her... I rushed past the security of the Sunset Pack and stormed into the Packhouse. Nicolas's Beta ran by my side saying. - Alpha Jeremy! You just can't rush into our territory unannounced and harm our security! - my head hurt and I was too angry to deal with his whining. I glanced at Rico and he laughed. Rico grabbed Arnold by his coat and growled at him. Arnold shut up finally and I said. - Take me to your Alpha. Now! - Arnold led us to Nicolas's study where he was drinking a glass of wine comfortably, watching out of his large window. The wind blew and a blizzard also started as soon as we arrived. He turned to us and a smile curved on his face. - Alpha Jeremy? I thought you left about three hours ago. What brings you back to my humble Packhouse? - I didn't think this over. How can I demand the girls back?! My pride was suppressed by the growing fear and panic. - I came for the dancers you hired. - Nicolas lifted an eyebrow and smiled. - Is that so? Well, that is interesting. Why does the Alpha, who is famous for his hate for humans, demand two human sluts? - my hands clenched in fists. Luckily Rico interfered. - One of them is my mate! I only found out at the party. It took us so long to return because it was hard to convince my Alpha to let her in. - he said and his lie was so believable. Also, it answered why I was so frustrated. - Oh. In this case, congratulations. But I must warn you that a little incident happened. - What incident? - I had to squeeze the words between my teeth in anger. Nicolas was clearly wasting our time. - Well, one of them found out about our identity. Don't worry, I took care of her. - What have you done? - I whispered and Nicolas laughed glancing out of the window. - That doesn't matter. Since your Beta is not dying in pain that means it wasn't his mate. - We can't hurt humans! That's the law! - I shouted at Nicolas and his smile widened. - That's true, unless our identity is at risk. - But if one of them is a mate of someone, she or he is protected by our laws! - Rico added, and Nicolas laughed. - Since she isn't, there is no crime committed. Arnold, lead the hero in love to his mate, please. Now, if you'll excuse me, it was a long night. Safe journey back, Alpha Jeremy. - we walked out of the room and I almost collapsed in pain in front of Nicolas's door. Rico grabbed Arnold and hissed. - As you can clearly see we need to know what happened to the dancer! - Arnold nodded and whispered. - My Alpha ordered to his bodyguard to get rid of her. That's all I know. - Who is the bodyguard? - I asked and Arnold sighed. - Gustav, must be back by now. - Rico pat his back, thanking him, and rushed after him to get Cherry out of there, while I waited in the hall for Gustav. When I spotted him, I punched him in the stomach and he hit the wall behind him. He snarled at me but his wolf knew better. I saw the struggle in his eyes, he was loyal to his Alpha and ready to die for him. Luckily, his wolf recognized my higher authority and took control of him. - We dug her in the forest. I can't tell you now where she is. The blizzard covered everything. - Was she still alive?! When did you dig her?! - I asked and my whole body was trembling in pain and fear. - She was. He put her in a wooden box. We dug her about half an hour ago. If you hurry you might arrive in time. - that moment Rico arrived with a trembling Cherry. - What is going on? Where is Carolina? - she asked with tears in her eyes. "- Rico put Cherry in the car and follow me. - I said to him through our mind link. He nodded and gave a tiny peck on Cherry's forehead. This was the first time I've thought of doing the same with Carolina once we find her. Cherry stayed in the car and we shifted, running into the woods. The wind blew so hard that it was difficult to see and even run in a straight line. I ran to the direction Gustav's wolf indicated but the scents and footsteps were already covered by the snow. When we were already half an hour away more or less from the Packhouse Rico shifted into his human form and started to scream. While he screamed for her name I waited to hear something. - Come on Carolina....just a tiny scream please! - I thought when I saw Rico's devastated face. He took a deep breath and shouted. - Roxanne! - I shifted as well and looked at him. - Roxanne? - Rico nodded and shouted. - That's her real name! - finally, I understood why my rejection didn't work. For once, I was glad for it. I followed Rico's example and shouted from the top of my lungs. - ROXANNE! - for a second everything went silent and I heard a weak scream, it was as silent as a mouse in the walls. - Help! - I ran to its direction and started to dig the ground, praying to the Moon Goddess that I would arrive on time. Since my pain was increasing and also my fear. I knew already why I felt this way. Because my mate was dying, and this was my fault.
