Chapter 16Jesse slid down the wall and landed on the floor. He needed to put more space between him and the living room—between him and Emma. He didn’t understand exactly what was happening, but he was having a hard time thinking about anything. Tears stung the back of his eyes as terror and rage attacked him in turns. Were any of those emotions his? Did he even have emotions anymore? Had they been overgrown, entangled, starved? Emma kept crying out for him. Every instinct in his body told him to run to her.
