Chapter 18The sun was almost down. Jesse and Emma would be home soon, which meant Gideon had ten minutes on the outside to get the food dished up, the candles on the dining room table lit, the sauce he’d spilled cleaned up, and his clothes changed. Everything had to be perfect. He’d planned it that way. After the catastrophe of the party a week earlier, he owed it to Jesse and Emma to make tonight as special as possible for them. Guilt still plagued both his waking and resting thoughts.
