Rachel's POV
"Hey Brent can I talk you for a minute?" My dad called out to a dark haired bi-racial fine looking man.
"Sure. What’s up sheriff?" He asked on getting to where we were standing by the entrance.
"This is my daughter Rachel. You know, concerning what we talked about. Rachel this is Brent Callaghan. He owns the bar." My dad said and we exchanged smiles and handshakes and hellos. Brent towered over me and I guessed he should be about 6’2 in height. His complexion made him look different as there weren’t a lot of biracials in shadow creek. He seemed nice with the way he conversed but his buff stature made him look a bit intimidating. I mean, the guy towered over my dad who was 6 feet in height.
"Oh she could come in whenever she's ready to start." He replied my dad.
"I'm ready now. Can I start now?" I blurted out.
He smiled, nodding his head.
"Sure. I don't see why not." He said and my dad left me in his care as we headed up to his office to discuss the payment plan and work hours. After all that was settled, he took me round the bar, showing me the cellar where the drinks were stored, introducing me to the staffs and teaching me few things about drinks and mixing. It was really fascinating. Before then, I had no cause to associate with alcohol so I knew very little about beers and wines.
"Your apron and locker card. You could wipe down tables since its noon and we have few customers that have been attended to. Night is rush hour so we'll need all hands on deck then. Welcome Rach." Brent said handing me the items. Now I knew why he was the boss. He sure knew how to boss people around. But he looked really young. Probably early 20's.
I nodded and smiled before heading to the locker room to put my things away. I put on my apron and smiled cheering myself up in the mirror. I had Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays off which was more than fine.
I wiped down the tables, picking up empty mugs and disposing the empty bottles away.
I did this for about an hour as the bar was really big. I noticed a few bar girls flirting with the cowboys who eyed them like pieces of meat that they wanted to eat. I shook out the image from my head before continuing with my work.
I was waiting a table writing down the orders when my ear picked up a conversation that caught my attention.
"I suggest not the Callaghan smile. She's the sheriff's only daughter." I heard someone say. I looked up wanting to see those talking about me only to find a pair of weirdly dressed boys at the entrance of the bar.
The one with the least piercings looked up at that moment and our eyes met for a few seconds before I broke contact. They looked really weird. One was in leather pants and a Gothic shirt with lots of piercings─ Nose piercing, three ear piercings and eye piercings. The other, in Jeans and a black shirt with a biker’s jacket having ear and eye piercings. They both had on cowboy hats which was nothing new considering how shadow creek was full of cowboys.
I guessed they were bikers. And I knew shadow creek bikers and my dad didn't relate. I paid no attention to them as I went on with my work.
I looked up to see Brent in a whispered conversation with them before they all disappear to his office. Mr-least-piercing looked at me and our eyes met again. I rolled my eyes at him and his face expressed shock and awe before he disappeared from my line of sight.
I went on with taking orders before handing over the note to the bartender while picking up other orders and serving them.
Night came and it really was the rush hour. A lot of drinkers were in the bar at that time. We couldn't handle all orders even with the number of bar girls. Brent was also working and helping out with mixing drinks. My feet and back hurt badly from standing so much but I ignored the pain, taking as many orders as I could. Many hours later, the last drinker exited the bar and I checked the time to see its past 1 am. I had no idea it had gotten so late. I was still thinking and wondering how I was going to get home when Brent’s voice seared through my thoughts.
"Come on. Grab your stuffs. I'll drop you off at your house. Its late and I feel bad for making you work so late on your first day." He said with a smile. I would have rejected his offer but seeing as I had no other option I smiled back asking him to wait while I got my stuff. I threw my apron in the locker retrieving my purse and phone. I returned to the main bar area to find everywhere empty.
“I usually lock up the bar and open it. Everyone already left” He explained probably noticing my puzzled expression.
We exited the bar and I waited in the side as he locked up with two giant-sized padlocks. We got into his car and he drove in the direction of my house. I guess he knew where that seeing as he was friends with my dad.
"Thanks for dropping me off. I really appreciate the kind gesture." I said to Brent as he stopped in front of my door.
"Nah. It’s no problem. Go on. I'll drive off once you are inside." He urged me to go in and I nodded. I bade him goodnight before unlocking the door and going in. I looked out through the window to see him reverse on the rocky gravely path that was the driveway. Such a gentleman!
I locked up the house and turned on the alarm system as usual before grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and taking out my dinner or in my case, an early breakfast from the microwave. I ate in deafening silence putting my plate in the sink to wash it in the morning before going up to my room to sleep before daybreak.
******************
"Morning dad." I greeted on entering the kitchen. My dad was seated at the table reading the morning paper.
"Morning Angel. How was your night?"
"It was good. Got to sleep for a few hours but I slept well."
"Hm... What time did you get home last night?"
"Or you mean this morning─” I chuckled. “Got home around two I guess. Brent dropped me off."
"Oh that's late. Sorry I couldn't wait up. I had a bad day at work and it tired me out."
"It’s okay dad. Do you want to talk about it?" I asked him but he shook his head in refusal. I was okay with it though. Not like he talked to me about work, his reasons being that he didn't want me to worry about him and his work and that he wanted to keep away from crime as best as he could.
"I'm running late. I'll see you for lunch. Are you still heading to the library?"
"Yeah, I need to do a little reading. Haven't done that in weeks since I moved here." I said and he nodded.
"Well good. Give me a call when you want to have lunch and I'll come pick you up. Love you honey." He said grabbing his work bag and case files, hurriedly leaving the kitchen.
"Love you too dad." I shouted back and heard the door close shut. I sighed deeply. Well time to get ready Rachel. I thought to myself as I headed up to my room but instead, I slept all morning before finally waking up to get ready to head out to the library.
Drew's POV
"Boss can I talk to you for a minute?" Dawg said from the door of my office and I waved him in.
"Yeah, what’s up?" I asked.
"Uhm... I got a gig from a friend's friend." He began and I hummed indicating that I was listening.
"So he knows a man who is in debt now and he's a druggie who needs money. He wants to sell his company in Boston for some money. He needs the money urgently and I think its a good deal."
"What’s the payment plan like and the yearly income?" I asked him.
"The company should sell for a $100 million under normal circumstances but considering the urgency of this deal the man agreed to quarter the price and the yearly revenue is double the sale price." Dawg said grinning from ear-to-ear.
"Hmm... I'm a biker with money. I know nothing bout business so I'll give you the pay and you go over there and close the deal. Is that okay?" I asked him and he nodded in consent.
"Good draw up a contract for me to sign and I'll give you the money. We may be brothers but business is business."
"Sure boss. I totally understand." He replied, leaving the office probably in search of his errand boy—one of the new bikers.
I picked up my phone and dialed bear. Its went to voicemail a few times before he finally answered.
"Where the f**k did you keep your phone! I've been calling you. Anyway is everything set up for the initiation?"
"So sorry boss. Just got out of the hospital. My baby girl got sick. And I just checked in with Rott everything is set up."
"Good. Make sure their bikes are in good condition. Don't need anyone dying on my watch today. Tell everyone to gather at the grounds at 2 for the ceremony." I ordered and he muttered his okay before we hung up.
I checked the time to see that it was still morning. What to do till two?
My mind wandered off to the gorgeous red head working at my brothers bar. She's tough I'll have to give her that. I mean, no girl could resist my manly charm but she seemed to be unaffected and bored whenever I showed up at the bar. She even went as far as avoiding the table I sat at. She refused to wait my table and excuses herself from the room whenever I called for a waiter and she was the only one available. Her opposition drove me crazy and my prideful side just wanted to walk up to her and kiss her senseless but then I knew for sure she'd slap me and knead me in the nuts.
I tried asking my brother for help in getting with her but he mocked me and reminded me in full details of how she is the sheriff's only daughter and of how much her father dotes on her.
"Ugh! f**k all this." I groaned rubbing my hands on my face repeatedly in frustration. I sought a diversion to get my mind off of her allure. I needed to get laid. Its been a while.
"Hey Drew. I thought you'd never call." The cringe-worthy squeaky and irritatingly flirty voice of Folly came on the line and I knew just talking to her was going to give me a headache but then she was free. It's better to go with the devil you know than the angel you don't.
"The motel at 6." I said leaving no chance for formalities before hanging up.
I closed my eyes for few seconds to free up space in my head and just to relax. Few deep breaths led to a resting nap.
"Boss. Hey boss." I heard someone call and I felt shaking stimuli on my arm which forced me to open my eyes. It took a while to get accustomed to where I was and I looked up to see Wolfe staring at me.
"Boss you okay? You hardly ever sleep at the office." Wolfe asked me worriedly.
"Yeah I'm good. Had a slight headache. What's up."
"We're all set. Its time for the ceremony."
"Oh! I didn't realize it was 2 already. Cool. Lets go." I picked up my phone, wallet and keys to my bike before leaving the office with Wolfe. I locked up the door since I would be heading to the motel from the bikers ground. I turned on my bike and my baby roared to life with so much vigour and a grin spreads across my lips.
"Lets go." I said and he nodded. We both raced ourselves to the ground and of course I got there before him. I didn't just get the title of leader of the bikers, I earned it.
"Hey boss." Multiple greetings are heard as I passed by and I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Okay brothers gather around!" I shouted the command at the top of my voice and everyone gathered around me with Wolfe, Dawg and Bear flanked at my sides.
"We are here to officially welcome more brothers into our family. Its good to know people aspire to become bikers. It means they understand what we do. New blood is always welcomed. We look out for our own, for our brothers, our families, we support each other in whatever way possible, we f**k up anyone who tries to mess with us or the ones we love and lastly we end anyone who tries to come between our brotherhood. Being a biker is not just a profession or a hobby, being a biker is a way of life!" I ended my speech and the crowd erupted into shouts, whistles and cheers. Loud reverberating claps are heard across the grounds.
"Thank you. We welcome new blood to our brotherhood and I hope you all came prepared coz I'll hate to be disappointed by your lack of skill and boring stunts." I said smirking and they all laughed lightly. We all spread out to let the newbies do their thing and show us what they learnt and I had to agree, they impressed me from their bikes, the level of sophistication with the jumps, swerves and bike stands they were able to do.
I'd never felt so bored and uninterested in s*x like I did right then. I didn't feel anything and it was so frustrating that I felt the urge to smash her head on the wall.
"Stop." I said but she continued bobbing her head up and down clearly enjoying what I was not.
"I. Said. Stop." I repeated in a tone that she knew fully well. Her actions halted immediately and she got up from the floor facing me. She tried to grab my face but I slapped her hand away which fell, resting on my abs.
"Whats wrong babe? I could make you feel better." She said smiling seductively and rubbing her hands up and down my chest. I pushed them away feeling totally irritated.
"Get out." I said coldly and her hands stopped moving.
"W-what?" She stuttered.
"You heard me loud and clear. GET OUT!" I repeated and she flinched in fear at my tone before silently putting on her clothes. I heard the door close few minutes later and I sighed. She really didn't do anything wrong but I was not just in the best of moods.
No scratch that... I was in a very shitty mood from my messed up situation.
I got dressed which was just buckling my jeans and putting on my shirt. I didn't really take off my clothes and we didn't even do anything. I grabbed my phone and keys from the table before leaving the room. I locked the door and checked out at the front desk paying for the night that ended up as a sham. I got on my bike and rode home with the cool breeze hitting my face cooling off my anger and dissatisfaction.
"What has you looking so down and detached?" Javier asked me as I stepped into the kitchen.
"Where's everyone?" I asked ignoring his question and he seemed to get the hint that I didn't want to talk about it.
"Hayden is in his room. Brent isn't back yet."
"I'm going in for the night." I said to him grabbing another water bottle from the fridge after draining the first one.
"Oh... What about dinner?" He asked.
"Not hungry."I heard him hum as I walked out of the kitchen headed for my room. I landed on my bed face flat groaning loudly. I knew I needed to do something about this issue before I ended up taking out my frustration on someone.
An idea came to mind and it was something I wouldn't ever have thought of doing and something I'd never done. But it was my best bet if I wanted to win her over and get her to like me.
