Chapter 16

3014 Words
Rachel's POV. I groaned, rolling on the bed cautiously as a result of my bulging belly as I tried to battle the bouts of morning sickness hitting me. I kept on belching up weird stinky vomit gases and often times ran to the toilet, hunched over and ready to puke my guts out only to dry heave. The baby messed with my body and hormones really bad. I ran to the bathroom once again but this time, I actually puked my guts out. I sat back on the floor and groaned in pain as two drops of moisture dropped from my eyes. I flushed the toilet, walking over to the sink to rinse out the taste of vomit from my mouth before brushing my teeth. I went into the shower and turned on hot steamy water to wake me fully before stepping out and wrapping a soft robe on my body, moving through the adjoining door into the closet. I picked out clothes that best suit my tired mood and applied my body necessities. I packed my hair into a very messy bun atop my head and went down the stairs in search of Camille. "Morning dear." She greeted as I stepped into the kitchen. "Morning Camille." "How are you feeling today hon?" She asked with a smile on her round face. "I'm feeling like the living dead. Really fatigued and tired. The puking ugh!" She chuckled, lowly amused by all I said "Well sorry honey. Its just normal." "Thanks for pointing out things I know already Camille,” I smiled sarcastically and she laughed. "You're welcome dear." She winked and I rolled my eyes at her. "No eggs today please,” I groaned as just the thought of it forced barf up my throat. "Okay, honey. I made you soup instead. I figured you wouldn't like eggs due to your morning sickness." I smiled at her in thanks as she put down a plate of steamy spicy soup in front of me. I drank it all and took one more round before I was ready to go. "Where's Paisley? Did she have breakfast already?" I asked her before I step out. "Oh… She left early and she skipped breakfast." Camille replied and I hummed. Quite unlike her. "Bye Camille. I'm off to work." I said as I walked out of the kitchen. "Bye honey. See you later." She replied. I got a day job at a supermarket where I worked as the cashier. The pay wasn’t much and I wasn’t so used to the language of the people but I was willing to take whatever they had to offer as long as I didn’t have to be on my feet as much. I worked morning shifts only and the owner was considerate of my pregnancy and he gave me days off when I had ante-natal. Paisley fussed everyday about me working when I didn’t need to but I ignored all her whines. It was enough that I was squatting at her boyfriend's house and feeding on their food, I didn’t want to have them buy my baby essentials when that time came. ‘I could call its father, I guess he'd love to buy them with all that biker money of his’ I thought to myself but shook my head as if to send straying thoughts to hell. My stomach was really showing for a 4-months old pregnancy. I complained to the doctor at my last checkup but he assured me, telling me not to worry and I was alright as long as my baby was growing healthily. "Morning Rachel." Pamela, the 2nd cashier in the store greeted as I walked in. I smiled and returned her greeting heading straight for the locker room to drop off my purse and change into my uniform. I put on the green trousers tailored to fit my pregnant waist and a white extra large shirt to fit my bulgy tummy. I loved my work cloths— they were very comfy and baggy and they reminded me of sweats. I went back out and did a quick tour of the store, taking down empty cartons, writing down shelves that needed to be refilled and items that needed to be restocked on a sticky note to be handed to the store boys. I sat at the desk waiting for customers to start trooping in for the day. "Hey how are you feeling?" Paisley asked me over lunch at Mandy's. I hummed as I chewed and swallowed the fries in my mouth, taking a sip of my juice before replying. "I'm alright. The morning sickness is crazy but I'll live, I guess. Its just an exciting and thrilling journey for me with all the changes my body has been going through lately." I smiled at her. "That's good, honey. Sorry I had to leave so early this morning. I had a photography workshop in Auckland." She apologized and I rolled my eyes at her. "You don't have to explain hon. I understand. How is work though?" "Work is good. I just miss Gage." She sighed, jutting out her bottom lip like a kid being denied candy. I chuckled at her childish display "When will he get back?" I inquired. "In a few months. Hopefully less." She replied and I nodded in understanding. When it comes to missing men, I knew how that felt cause I miss— No I didn’t. "Uhm you alright?" She asked jolting me out of my brief reverie and I hummed. "Yeah I am why?" "Nothing. You were mumbling to yourself for a bit." Was her reply and I laughed it off with an awkward giggle before silence ensued and we focused on finishing our lunch of all things greasy and unhealthy. I paid the bills and we hugged and said our goodbyes to see later at the house. I crossed the road and walked few blocks before getting to the store where I worked. ******** "Uhm… Pam could you cover for me I need to go to the restroom." I pleaded with her and directed all the customers at my desk to hers before rushing off to go empty my full bladder. I did my business and washed my hands before going back out. I saw a full store with impatient customers and I quickly walked the distance to my desk. I assisted her in attending to all the customers and we were done right before closing time. My legs hurt real bad and I couldn’t wait to get home and cuddle with my bed. I started packing up, arranging my desk and closing tabs on the system as a customer dropped a few items on my desk. I replied whoever it was without looking up from what I was doing. "We're closed for the day. Sorry." "I guess you could make me an exception." The customer replied and oh that voice. I looked up to come face to face with the one person I thought I finally ran away from. The thief who managed to steal my heart and my womb was standing in front of me looking really handsome even with unshaved beards and full overgrown hair. "Hey Rachel. You're uhm… you're pregnant." He said and a reply failed to come out of my mouth and all I could do was swallow the pool of spit in my mouth. The last thing I wanted was for drool to leak out of my opened mouth. Drew's POV. "Boss!" He yelled making me glare. "Who's chasing you this hot afternoon?" I asked. "Boss... I think I found her,” He started. "Found who?" "Rachel." He said and my heart started hammering in my chest from the thought of seeing her again. "Where… where is she?" I asked impatiently. "Uhm… she's in New zealand. She popped up on my boys radar and they followed her to a house. Her address is on this paper." He said, handing me a sheet of paper with scribbled address. "New zealand… The f**k is she doing all the way over there,” I muttered to myself. I guess that was how bad she wanted to be away from me and just the thought of it caused a pang in my chest. "I guess I'm going to New Zealand, huh. An impromptu vacation,” I smiled to myself clutching the paper tightly in my hand. As usual the guys who wanted to be at my side every freaking time spoke up in unison. "We're coming with you!" They all said and I raised a brow at them. "Why would y'all tag along? Sit your asses in shadow creek and handle s**t here while I go get my girl." I said with so much determination and I saw the restraint on their faces until Wolfe burst into laughter and the others followed suit. "Whats so funny?" I asked confused. "Sorry man. It sounded like a telenovela series to us." Wolfe spoke up and I scoffed. "Yeah right. Whatever." I put on my bikers jacket, grabbing my phone and keys to my bike before exiting the lounge. I got on my bike and drove all the way home to a surprised Geneva. I found her in the laundry room folding the clean clothes and setting up the machine with dirty ones in it. "Hey baby boy. Why are you back so early?" She looked up from the clothes she was folding. "I'm going to New Zealand. I need you to pack up-" But she cut me off. "Why the hell are you traveling across the world all of a sudden. Did your dad mess up from jail again? Did he ask you for help this time? What did he ask for now?" She ranted angrily and I chuckled at her feisty demeanor. "Relax Neva. Its Rachel. Dawg found Rachel in New Zealand." I explained and her brows scrunched up in confusion. "Why will she travel so far away?" She asked and I shrugged. "I guess she wanted to be as far away from me as possible." "You know that's not true, honey. She probably has good reasons." Neva tried to reassure me but I didn’t miss the uncertainty in her voice. "Anyway, I need you to pack up a bag for me please. I have to get to the bar to inform Brent. I'll be back to pick up my bag. Just throw in whatever s**t you think I'll need. Thanks mama." I said and planted a kiss on her forehead. "You're welcome baby boy." I rushed out of the house enroute the bar on my bike. I got there and went in after parking my bike in its spot. The bar felt empty without Rachel. Knowing she was not hiding from me in the locker room, or wiping down dirty tables, or laughing at something Pecos had said or conversing with other bar girls; just knowing she was not in here made everything look so bleak. I brought myself back to reality and walked through the door up to my brother's office. "Ooh sorry. I didn't know you were— busy." I said unamusedly as the barely clothed bar girl jumped off Brent's lap in shame. She grabbed her clothes squeezing past me and out of the room. I turned my attention to Brent who looked the least bit bothered even though I just caught him doing the dirty with his employee. "You're not going to say anything?" I raised a brow at him and he shrugged. "What am I supposed to say? Am I supposed to apologize?" He retorted and I shook my head. I would have given him a lecture had Rachel not been in the forefront of my mind. "Your deal, man. I came to let you know that I'll be going to New Zealand. They found Rachel. Let Javier and Hayden know. I'll be back in a few days with Rachel… Hopefully." I said to him. "That's nice, bro.” He smiled genuinely and I nodded my head stiffly. "No f*****g your employees, Brent. You know the drill. Get you another ass not one of your workers. It complicates shit." I said and walked out of the office without waiting to hear his reply. I rushed back to the house to see two bags already packed for me. "This is filled with your clothes and the other with toiletries and excesses." Neva pointed out each bag and I nodded in understanding. "Thanks. You're the best." I smiled at her. "I try to be. Goodbye baby boy." She bid me farewell as I stepped out of the house. I threw my bags into the backseat of my car and got into the passengers side with Wolfe in the drivers side. I instructed him at the lounge to call my pilot and drive me to the airport so he could bring my car back to the house. The drive to the airport was short but filled with so much anxiety. "Hello Mr Callaghan. Its been a while." I shook hands with my pilot and his co-pilot. "Yeah it has. I guess I've not had to leave the country for vacation." I smirked and they laughed. "Okay so we're cleared for traveling. You passport got stamped and the plane has been checked and it has been cleared safe to travel. Your hostess for today is Amaya and she would cater for any of your needs on the plane." He said pointing to a milf air hostess with her boobs nearly shooting out of her uniform. I chuckled at his meaning of needs but not anymore sadly. My eyes were now on one female. The plane departed and we were in the air for roughly over 13 hours before finally landing at the major airport in New Zealand and in less than an hour we were cleared into the country. I called for a rented car to drive me to the house and I handed the chauffeur the paper that had the address. He nodded and smiled which I took to mean he knew the area and he told me we'd be driving for a while and to make myself comfortable in the back seat. I sighed and leaned back into the chair staring at the beautiful and new scenery outside the window as my mind wandered off yet again to Rachel. We drove on for hours past the main city towards a forest area and I started to wonder if Rachel moved to live in the woods. The car turned off the road and drove a few metres before a beautiful white house came into view. "We're here Sire." He addressed me after parking in the driveway. "Uhm… Are you sure this is the address on the paper?" I asked and he chuckled before replying with a nod. I paid him his bill and got out of the car grabbing my two luggage as he drove off. I sighed taking in the beautiful sight in front of me before walking to the door. Two knocks and I waited silently dropping my bags beside me on the porch. "Uhm... Hello Mr. How may I help you?" A woman who looked to be in her early forties asked through the small screen that suddenly lit up on the wall beside the door. "Hello Ma'am. I'm Drew. I was told Rachel lives here and I came to see her." I explained and immediately the screen light goes off and the door sprang open with the woman smiling at me. "Hello Mr Callaghan. I've heard so much about you. Do come in." She urged making an effort to take my bags to which I politely declined. "So please is Rachel in?" I asked and she hummed. "No dear. She's at work but she'll soon get back. Tea or coffee?" She asked but I ignored the question with one of my own. "Please ma'am, where does she work?" I asked. "Oh.… It's not too far from here dear. Just a few metres away. She'll soon get back." She replied but then I can't afford to waste one more second of not seeing her. "Uhm... sorry to impose but may I borrow one of the cars? I promise I'll return it the same way I took it." I pleaded and surprisingly, she handed me the keys to the one out front without really giving it much thought. I walked over to the car and got in. I drove my way around asking a few people for directions till I finally got to the store but then it was locked. I told the owner I needed to get something for my pregnant wife and I begged like my life depended on it before he allowed me to go in. I ran to the pregnant care section and just picked a bunch of things I had no freaking idea about before carrying them over to the counter. I knew there were cameras watching so I had to act my lie to the end. I spotted Rachel with her head bent down, busy with whatever was down there. I dropped all my items on her table. "We're closed for the day. Sorry." She said without looking up from what she was doing. A smirk creeped up my face "I guess you could make me an exception." I retorted and her head slowly came up till I was staring into her earthy green eyes that I never knew I missed so much but then I saw it… I guess her face was shielding it from sight but I could see it… her bulging belly. "Hey Rachel. You're uhm… you're pregnant." The words come out as a whisper as dread filled every single part of my body. She had moved on from me. She had gotten married and was about to have a kid. This was not how I f*****g planned this trip to go.
