Years and years had passed. Roupi was becoming more beautiful girl as she grew older. I was afraid not to be able to protect her, but I wasn’t worried much, because we had our home, the orphanage to keep us safe from outside world.

One day the school president called me to his room. I didn’t have any idea about what he was going to say. I knocked on the door and opened after he gave me permission.

Mom was sitting there.

Gasia:-“yes sir.”

I sat, I had no other choice. But I kept my eyes locked to the president.

President:-“but you didn’t even look at them Gasia.”

I looked at them and faked smile.

My heart was going to explode. I remembered every single moment from the past. How she starved me, how she has beaten me, how she kicked us out in the freezing cold, how she locked me in the dark, how she didn’t take care of Roupi and many other things.

Gasia:-“ No sir, I can not remember them.”

Zarmig:-“ Gasia…”

President:-“sorry for interrupting ma’am, but this is my job”

The president stood up from his seat and came closer to me, kneeled before me and with a sweet tone he said:-“Sweetheart, this is your mother and the girl next to her is your older sister Sarine. They were searching for you all these years, but couldn’t find you both, you and your sister. Do you remember the day when you got lost? Your father took you to the park and…”

Zarmig:-“ yes baby, we couldn’t find you anywhere. We searched for days.”

President:-“ Gasia, I want you to pack your bags, go spend some time with your family and on Friday, you come back. I know she is your mom, but we have procedures we should accomplish.”

I looked at the president he was serious. I was dead inside. I stopped hearing. I stopped seeing. I even stopped breathing.

Our lives were over. We were going back to hell.

It was Wednesday and we had to spend 2 days in that horrible place.

I didn’t know what to tell Roupi, how to tell her everything, it was time to tell her everything.

I said nothing, and left the room like a ghost. I was numb, the world stopped.

Roupi was waiting for me outside. She looked really excited but I was in big shock.

I hugged my little sister tightly. We headed to our room and sat on the bed. I didn’t have any idea how to start!!!

Roupi:-“Gasia, what’s wrong? What happened in there? What did the president say?”

I took a deep breathe and closed my eyes. How to start? Where to start?

Gasia:-“I love you so much. You know that right?”

Roupi:-“ I love you too Gasia. What’s wrong with you?”

Gasia:” do you know that I would never leave you, right?”

I told her the whole story from the beginning. I was too honest with her. I told her how we got into the orphanage and what our mom did to us. About that horrible place ( I could t tell what was going on in there but I tried my best to tell her, that very bad things were happening in that house.

Gasia:-“Now. Our mom and older sister are out there waiting for us, we are going to visit them for 2 days and then come back…

Roupi:-“…are you serious? Is mom here?”

Gasia:-“ Roupi, stop it. What did I just tell you? What did I say? You are not allowed to be excited to see that woman. You have to be afraid of her and think about what she can do to us, stay alerted and protect yourself from everything.”

Roupi:-“ but she is mom… and I never saw her. And you say she is here to get us…”

Gasia:-“ Roupi, stop it. Wake up. I told you what kind of woman she is. I told you just right now. You should only trust me, and no one else. Listen to me and no one else. But if you don’t listen to me and do what I say, you will live a life in hell, and I don’t want you to live that horrible life in that disgusting place.

Roupi:-“ ok, ok. I will do whatever you tell me.”

Gasia:-“ you will see them, and spend 2 days with them, but you will stay close to me and never leave my side. No spending alone time with any of them, no going out without me. Or else, we can no longer see each other baby.ok? I love you.”

And I kissed her.

I did my best to convince her and made sure she understood me very well. We started packing and when we were done, we held hands and headed to the waiting room, where Sarine and so called “mom” were waiting.

Zarmig:-“baby…”

She yelled and kneeled, opened her arms wide to welcome Roupi and hug her. I was holding Roupi’s hand tightly and didn’t let her go. She looked at me and hid herself behind me. “That’s my girl.”- I thought to myself. I was glad she did that.

Zarmig:-“ Won’t you hug mommy? Won’t you kiss me? I missed you so much.”

President:-“ give her some time, she really needs time to accept the truth.”

I never wanted Roupi to accept that woman as a mother and I will do my best to keep that monster away from my little innocent sister.the other kids surrounded us, kissed and hugged us, wished us beautiful hours. They didn’t know the truth behind that smily face.

No one knew anything, except me. I never told anything to anyone. They thought we were surprised to see our mom and sister, but I was scared, I didn’t want to go with them.

It was time to leave. My teacher was smiling at me with a thumbs up. She thought I always wanted this. I never wanted to leave the orphanage, even after 18. But rules are rules.

I was trying to remember everything beautiful we lived in the orphanage. And we suddenly stopped.

Everywhere was different. Everyone was a stranger except the house of horror.

Zarmig:-“we’re home. Come on little girl, lets get inside. Come on baby, hold mommy’s hand, mommy missed you so much.”

Gasia:-“stay with my Roupi..”

Roupi:-“ I will stay with you Gasia. I’m afraid of her. Do t leave me alone.”

While walking toward the house I stopped, and looked once again to that house. I relived everything.

Roupi:-“Gasia, is this our home?”

Gasia:-“yes baby, this was our house, but It was never a home.”

We entered the house. It had never changed, it is still as I remembered, the old furniture, the disgusting smell of the alcohol and cigarette. The smoking pipes and the cats. I stood up to go with them, that bastard was sitting on that couch, with a bottle in his hand and the other a cigarette. He was almost dead.

Hovnan:-“are you Gasia?”

Gasia:-“yes.”

I knew something was planned.

Zarmig:-“hey, stop it.”

For a second I thought my mom was changed and she was protecting me, but then…

Gasia:-“ we will not stay here for long. We will leave in 2 days.”

I froze. I would never leave Roupi. I am responsible for her, if anything happens to her, I can jot forgive myself. I was too angry to kill her but I stayed calm.

I went to the room to see Sarine playing with Roupi. She was hugging her and kissing her. Singing and dancing together. She reminded me of myself. I smiled while watching and I noticed that, Sarine has brought Roupi some gifts and toys and chocolates. Sarine saw me standing there.

Sarine:-“come in, don’t stand there.”

I sat with them, we started talking. I told her how we lived in the orphanage, what do we do there, how is the school, and she told us funny stories and we had some fun together. The time was late and Roupi closed her eyes and fell sleep in Sarine’s lap.

Sarine:-“let us change her cloths and take her to her bad. Don’t worry, you both will sleep together.”

It was already midnight. Zarmig and Hovnan never visited our room. Sarine locked the door, and sat next to me and smiled. She suddenly hugged me and I don’t know what happened to me, I hugged her back.

Sarine:-“Gasia, I know its hard, but I beg you to accept mom’s offer, or else, she will take Roupi and leave you in the orphanage. And as you know, Roupi’s life will turn into hell. I also heard about sell her to human traffickers, I don’t know how we can help her and keep her safe, but we must do something, and you have to accept the offer. Or else, we can not do anything but to watch her burn in hell. I alone cant do anything but we as sisters together, theres a big chance to save her. We both must sacrifice for her.
