Dinner was nice, the food was good and once Seth and I got talking it was like we were long lost friends. Seth was trying to talk me into dessert.
“No, I couldn’t possibly.” I said, holding my stomach.
‘Oh who are you trying to fool? You could eat two desserts.’ Mia teased me.
‘Shut it wolf!’
“Then take it to go, their pie is aaaamazing, not to mention those round chocolate thingys.”
“Those are our chocolate bombs.” The waitress informed us, “Your friend here,” The waitress nodded towards Seth, “He likes his sweets. I’ll give you a few minutes to decide.”
I shook my head no, “I really can’t eat another bite and I still have to find a hotel for the night.”
Seth’s eyes shot up to meet mine. “What, you don’t even have a place to stay? You traveled all this way without booking a room?”
I had avoided giving too much information but felt much more comfortable with Seth now.
“Its kind of a long story but I left in kind of a hurry, decided just last night and I didn’t want to have a trail of where I would be.”
His expression changed, narrowing his eyes, looking concerned.
“Why what happened?”
So much of my story I could not tell him because he was human, and we are forbidden from revealing ourselves to humans, so I gave a variation to my story to make it sound more like a human problem.
“I was engaged, and he was with another female. My father and his are close and my father doesn’t seem to understand, he thinks since we were to marry in several months we should be able to work things out.” I couldn’t help myself, once I got started sharing, I could not stop.
“But I realize now, it isn’t just his sleeping with another female, I’ve come to realize he is a sexist pig.
I paid cash for my train ticket, opened an online bank account that he and my family do not know about.” I let out a giggle, “Actually I used my father’s credit card to buy a train ticket to Canada and a bus ticket to NY.” Then I told him about my meeting Tammy this morning and how I gave her my bus ticket to Buffalo, NY.
When I stopped, I noticed him just staring at me, “Wow, remind me to never piss you off.” We both laughed.
Once he stopped, he grew serious, "Any decent hotel will need a credit card, only dives take cash.”
“Dives?” I asked.
“Yes, you know, crappy motel will usually take cash, but you’ll probably have a lowlife in the room next to you.”
He suddenly perked up, “I’ll tell you what, stay at my place, at least for the night.” He looked at his watch, “Its late anyway. I have a spare room you can use. I have to work in the morning so you can sleep in as late as you want.”
‘Ohhh Mia, that is tempting.’
‘He’s harmless, just stay with him.’
‘What if he gets the wrong idea?’ I asked, making Mia laugh at me.
‘The wrong idea sounds like fun to me.’
‘Oh really? He isn’t our mate.’
Mia sighed, ‘I know, you know I wouldn’t want to do anything with anyone but our mate, but it sure is fun fantasizing about it.’
I caught myself biting my lower lip in thought as I contemplated the pros and cons of going to Seth’s for the night. The pros far outweigh the cons.
Actually, most of the cons were around him kidnapping me, empoisoning me, r****g me, but much of that I could probably avoid, since I was stronger than he is. Plus he doesn't seem the type.
Mia laughed in my head, 'Neither do most serial killers.'
I groaned at her, 'You are not being much help tonight.'
'Because I'm tired!' Mia replied as she curled up in the back of my head, like she was done for the night.
“Fine, I will stay with you tonight.”
Seth motioned for the waitress, “Maria, we will take two round chocolate thingys to go and the check, please.”
“Sure thing.” Maria gave me a wink.
In no time, we had our to go containers and were heading out the door.
Seth
I made it back to my place fairly quickly. This time of night there was little traffic.
I could see Aurora watching out the window, chewing on her lower lip as she watched the signs go by.
She was a big distraction to my driving as I caught myself sitting at a green light once or twice.
By the time we pulled up to my condo complex, I noticed she was sitting back in the seat relaxed. I opened the garage door and pulled in.
I quickly got out and took Aurora’s bag, leading her inside my townhouse.
“Make yourself at home, I’ll put your bag in the room and get clean sheets.”
I figured no one ever used my spare room so it could use fresh sheets. As I started to walk away, I turned, “Would you like a drink or anything?”
“No, thank you.” She said as she sat on the couch, then bit that lower lip again, like she was thinking of something she wanted to say but hesitating.
Finally, she asked, “I know its late but a shower might be nice. I’ve been traveling since 4:30 this morning.”
“I’ll get you towels and stuff for a shower.”
Quickly, I made my way to the bathroom first. I had some old shampoos and girly stuff in a cabinet from one of my ex-girlfriends who used to live here for a bit.
I grabbed some fresh sheets and towels.
I left the towels on the counter, then left to tell her she could use the bathroom.
I could see she had fallen asleep on the couch. I didn’t want to wake her, so I grabbed a blanket and covered her.
I stood for a few moments watching as she snuggled into the blanket, making me smile.
