My life was all figured out, I was to be the Luna to one of the strongest most respected packs around, The Crimson pack. I would be mated to the Alpha’s gorgeous son Jullian. I had lived my entire life, planning, studying, training towards the day I turned twenty-one and would be mated to Jullian DePont and eventually made his Luna. At least that s what I thought…..until one day it all took an unexpected twist. Everything was not as it seemed and not everyone was as they appeared. It was time for me to grow up and determine my own destiny or at least die trying….

Ignorance is Bliss
Laying with my back flat on the warm rock, watching the large fluffy clouds drift by with the warmth of the early summer sun beating on my stomach, I was daydreaming once again of my soon to be mate Jullian DePont. Jullian is the Alpha’s son of a neighboring pack we have an alliance with. He is tall, muscular with light brown hair that just covers the back of his neck. He usually has that slightly messy look with his hair pushed to the side. He has beautiful blue eyes that seem to change color depending on what he is wearing. I could tell I had that silly smile I get when I fantasize what life will be like with him. Oh, I like my life just fine, I rather enjoy living here at the Midnight pack. We are on the smaller size, with around one hundred and fifty pack members. The Crimson Moon pack had closer to three hundred and twenty pack members. Packs in the US range anywhere from as little as fifty pack members to a couple packs that have several hundred pack members. Here in the Midnight pack, we live a comfortable life, we aren’t extremely wealthy, but we do well. Now back to my hunk of a wolf Jullian. I’ve also seen pictures of his wolf Sabastian. He is a large black wolf with white peppered into his snout and back. Again, I found myself smiling. I say pictures because, well I have not yet met my soon to be mate. My name is Aurora, I live here at the Midnight pack with my parents, brother and sister. I am 20 years old, technically we find our true mates at 21 but it is said that it has been decades since a true mate pairing has occurred. So, after the 21st birthday we find our own mates. Unless you are lucky enough to be of a prestigious bloodline. I am the daughter of an Alpha, therefore I have been promised to an Alpha’s son. We have not yet met, but not from my lack of pleading. I have so badly wanted to meet my future mate, I even plotted to sneak off and travel to his pack for a secret meeting. I scratched that out after much planning, I did not want to appear desperate or that of a charlatan. I have studied for many years to become a proper respectful Luna; I would not take the chance of soiling my name in any fashion. I jumped, letting out a screech from cold water suddenly being splashed on me. Searching around my surroundings, I spotted the culprit, my best friend. “Lucian!” I yelled, although I was laughing, “You could have gotten my books wet.” I reached over and close the book beside me. I had come out to the pond that hard a large rock in the middle where I often came to study when I wanted to be alone. It was quiet out here, just about a half mile into the edge of the forest that surrounded our territory. There were a few rocks I used as steppingstones to walk out here. “Aurora, its almost dinner time, your parents were asking where you were off to.” I quickly looked at my phone. I had turned the ringer off, so it made no sound when Lucian tried texting and calling me. Dinner was in thirty minutes. I glanced down at my attire. It is not fit for family dinner, at least not at my dinner table. The Alpha’s family was expected to dress for dinner, along with the Beta, Gamma and their families. Lucian was the son of our Gamma. He was also one of the most attractive males in our pack. All the She-wolves drooled over him, well he and my older brother Nate, the future Alpha of our pack. I could not help but give Lucian a smile, “Maybe I was planning on going as I am, but now I cannot since you have gotten me all wet.” I said playfully. Lucian laughed a hardy laugh and doubled over dramatically, “You would never wear jeans and a t-shirt to family dinner.” I just sighed, “You are correct.” I gathered my things and edged my way to the edge of the large flat rock that was almost smack dab in the middle of the pond. Balancing, I jumped to the first steppingstone, then the next and the next, until I was on the grass at the edge of the pond. “Aurora, we had better shift to make it back in time for you to get ready.” I rolled my eyes; I knew Lucian was right. I put my bulky books in a small storage shed I had built for just this purpose. I didn’t want to rip my clothing, so I began to undress with my back to Lucian. We are wolves and spend a lot of time nude, although we didn’t prance around nude, we had some modesty after all, Lucian has seen me completely nude multiple times over the years but I still preferred to turn around for a little privacy. I could feel Lucian move closer to me and glanced over my shoulder. I caught him looking me over and smiled as I eyed his magnificent body. Being the son of the Gamma he helped his father with training the pack and his body showed it. ’He is sweet to look at.’ My wolf Mia said to me. Lucian handed me his clothing and I placed it neatly on top of my clothing on a shelf in the little shed. I turned to face Lucian and began shifting into my wolf Mia. Mia was a medium size reddish brown wolf. I had less control of my wolf when in wolf form and could not keep Mia from staring, watching Lucian as he began shifting into his large chocolate brown wolf. Once we had both shifted, I picked up the small pouch I had with a few of my items I wanted to bring back with me and we took off running full speed towards the pack house.
