Fated Mates

I took off running, ahead of Lucian, not waiting for him.

‘Hey!’ he yelled in a mind-link, making me laugh.

As we ran, I took the long way which would only make our run back to the pack house a few minutes longer.

‘Hey Aurora, did you hear about the two incidents where fated mates were found?’ Lucian mind-linked me.

I glanced over my shoulder at my running companion. ‘What are you talking about?’ I asked, curiously.

‘My father heard of two confirmed cases where wolves found their fated mates.’

I turned back to watch where we were headed, we were nearing the edge of the forest now.

‘Its been decades and you expect me to believe now there are two cases?’I know I sounded doubtful but Lucian often hinted how he wished we were mates.

‘One on the West Coast and one in Wisconsin, just below the Canadian border.’

‘Yes! Finally.’ Mia yelled cheerfully in my head.

‘Mia, I would not put any stock in the rumors.'

‘Oh, sure little miss kill joy. Why would you care you have been promised to Jullian DePont.’

‘How are they so sure?’ I asked Lucian, curious if there could be any truth to these claims.

‘The case in California, a Beta was visiting from another pack, you know on business. When they saw each other they said the urge to touch and mark each other was so great. The Beta picked her up out of the chair she was sitting in and kissed her right there in front of the other pack members.’

I could not help but frown, it all sounded a little outlandish to me.

‘Then the case in Wisconsin is a complete fiasco. The she-wolf just turned 21 and felt the mate bond with another within her pack but get this he had already been mated with another. They are fighting over the poor male; the Alpha called the council in to help out in the matter.’

This hit me a little closer to home. I was promised to Jullian DePont but what if I had a fated mate out there?

‘What would you do if you found you have a fated mate out there? Heck could even be me.’ Lucian mink-linked me.

I know I stayed quite for longer than comfortable, I was not sure how to respond. Lucian is gorgeous and had an amazing body, what if he did end up being my mate. He was super sweet and had always treated me well, but he was my best friend.

‘I do not know; I have known what is expected of me since I was a toddler.’ I finally replied, which was true, I learned of my being a future Luna at a very young age and learned that Jullian was to be my mate, to think that in a blink of an eye that could all change was unsettling to me.

One of the guards opened the side door for us so we did not have to shift to enter the pack house.

Once inside, we parted ways, I was on the third floor while Lucian's room was on the second floor.
