Sisters

I mind linked Natalia, ‘Lets talk.’ ‘Please Auora, there is nothing to talk about.’ ‘There is and it's not just about what you think.’ This got her to glance my way. I gave her a pleading look and saw the moment she gave in. ‘Fine, come to my room.’ I followed Natalia without another word. No one paid us any mind as we walked away in silence. Her room was not far from mine, just down the hall and around the corner. As we entered Natalia’s room, I had forgotten how much she loved pink. Although my bedroom had lots of purple, the rest of my suite had a pale off white with lots of dark wood, but Natalia had lots of pink throughout her whole suite. Nothing had changed and it made me smile, thinking back to when we were kids. Being four years apart made it tough for us to get along for much of our lives, but there were times we did a lot together. She had been like my little shadow for many years, then she hit the teen years and knew it all. Once the door was closed, I turned and gave Natalia a sad smile. “I have missed this.” Natalia raised her arms high, “Well I’ve been here all along, you were just too busy with your studies and hanging around with Lucian….but I guess I now realize why.” I could see the hurt in her eyes. I know she really had no right to be angry, even if Lucian and I were an item, she never told me she had feelings for him, besides the fact she is only sixteen and Lucian is twenty-two. “Natalia, I will not deny that Lucian has a crush on me, but trust me, that is all it is. He is my best friend.” I frowned sadly, “I wish he understood that. I do not wish to hurt him, but I do not feel the same as he does.” She rolled her eyes, “Oh my Goddess, that makes it all that much worse.” I must have looked confused. “You don’t even care for him like that yet you are…..” It finally hit me, what she meant. She thought that Lucian staying the night in my suite meant we had an intimate relationship. “Oh, no….no.” Rushed out of my mouth. “Lucian stayed over last night, that was the one and only time and that was only because we fell asleep. He was just there….” I trailed off. I shook my head, “Let me explain. After my date with Jullian, he tried to r**e me.” I went into the details of the night. I left nothing out, even the part of Jullian wanting to arrange for Natalia and his future Beta to be mates. “So Lucian was with me, we talked, I cried and fell asleep and apparently so did he. Nothing happened between us last night.” I shifted my stance a little uncomfortable, remembering the kiss we had. It was just a kiss, it didn’t mean anything, really nothing did happen. But I still left that part out. I did, however, tell her that Lucian suggested we run away together. She gave me sad eyes, “Maybe you should.” We had ended up sitting on her couch, beside each other. I took her hand, “I have decided I am going to run away, but not with Lucian. That would be putting his life in danger. I need to go alone.” That is when my plan began to form. I hadn't been sure about running away until I started speaking the words. Apparently, my sister had thought about running away a few times over the years and filled me in on her thoughts. Running away had never occurred to me, I had always been happy and had been happy knowing I had been promised to Jullian. Now that I had met Jullian, that fairytale life had fallen apart. We decided the best course of action was for me to move most of my money to an online account. It would take time for my parents to figure out I had another account and, since I was twenty, considered an adult in the human world, it would take time and resources for them to track that account. Whenever I needed money, I would be sure to go a few towns or more away from where I ended up staying, this would help me to try and stay hidden. My 21st birthday was just under six months away. I figured once I turned 21 I would try and find my mate. If I was able to fine my mate, then they would have to let me out of the agreement, especially if my mate and I had already accepted each other and completed the bond. When I leave here early tomorrow morning, I will walk north. Once I was a couple towns north of here, I would buy a train ticket going towards Montreal. I would also take out a large sum of cash and buy a train ticket going South. I would keep my credit cards for an extreme emergency. I would have to pack a light. The plan was coming together nicely. We even identified where I could go that would be close to other packs without being too close. I would live among humans until my 21st birthday. The excitement grew as we made plans, then once we had almost everything we could think of figured out, my excitement dwindled away and I got sad again. This is the best my sister and I have gotten along in years, no I take that back maybe ever, and I was about to leave. And even if this did not work out, surely after this Jullian would insist I move to his pack so he could keep an eye on me, but then even if this did work, I would be away for the next six months and, may find my mate and move to their pack. No matter what, this felt like the end. “Should we fill Lucian in?” Natalia asked. “No!” I said a little too quickly. “I fear he will insist he come with me. I can not risk it. I will leave a letter for you to give to him.” We decided I needed to stay informed on what was going on with the pack. We talked about my getting a burner phone and I would but we decided that if I called or texted Natalia’s phone they may trace it. Instead, we both made up new email addresses we would use to contact each other. Natalia said she would use the old computer in the library to check the email address and would be sure to log out once she was done. It felt like we had thought of everything. Everything except that I had never lived in the human world. I did not drive or have any skills needed for a job, but I was confident I would figure it out.
