I woke, feeling the swaying movement of the train. I was slightly disoriented at first.
I switched trains a couple of times throughout the day and early evening until this last train. I let myself fall asleep because I was taking this train to the end.
Looking out the window, I could just make out the mountains in the distance. It was a breathtaking view, even in the dark of night.
The train was quiet and fairly dark with most of the lights dimmed.
Throughout the day, occasionally I would sense another werewolf or another being, such as a Witch or Sorcerer, but there was no reason for concern, and they paid me no mind.
My sister and I had mind-linked a couple of times while I was still within range. At that point, no one knew, except Lucian and Brutus.
Then we lost our connection. I was sad and excited. I had a couple of books I purchased at the little store and read for much of my trip.
Looking at my watch, it was getting late, almost ten PM, I would soon be arriving at the end of the line in Virginia.
I was careful to be sure I would be outside the local pack’s territory. I did not want to alert anyone, but I also did not want to be too far from others of my kind in case I got desperate.
There would be a pack just a couple of towns over and another about thirty minutes from my destination.
I felt my stomach growl from hunger. I had lunch during one of the layovers switching trains. It was overwhelming at first, there were so many choices, and it was completely my decision.
It was strange. I had been around humans when I went into town shopping or to dinner but I had never been around them this much.
As they moved about, they seemed so much like us, but I knew deep down we were very different creatures.
As my stomach growled again, I pulled out one of the books I had started reading, figuring maybe this would occupy my mind for the next few stops before I reached my destination.
As we pulled up to the next station, that is when I felt it. I could feel other wolves, not just one or two like a few times earlier in the day. This felt like a larger group and the fact that the train had just come to a stop, and I could already feel them, this meant they were powerful.
I could not help wondering, would an Alpha travel by such means?
I kept myself buried in my book, looking as unthreatening as I could. The train began moving again and I was praying the feeling would leave as the train pulled away from the station, but instead the feeling grew stronger.
I heard the swish of the door behind me. The door that connected this train car and the one behind me.
I scooted down in my seat, wishing it would swallow me whole. I somehow just knew that this was whoever I was feeling.
A group of one, two, three, four, five large males walked by me. All appeared to be six feet or more.
I could tell right away they were all wolves. Not only could I feel they were wolves, but just looking at them, they had the look.
All were large, bulky, one had a sleeveless shirt on with bulky muscles, the others looked like they were probably just as muscular.
A couple had short hair, one had very long hair, another had hair that just covered his neck, and the last had hair that touched his shoulders.
They varied in hair color and skin tone. They all appeared to be beautifully handsome males. But they all dressed very differently, but I could smell their scent and was pretty certain they were all from the same pack.
I could not help but peer over the top of my book, watching them walk through the train car like they owned the place.
They reached the end of the train car I had been riding in and opened the door, although my car was close to empty.
One by one, they stepped into the next car, and I let out the breath I had not realized I had been holding.
As the last one stepped onto the threshold of the next car, he glanced over his shoulder. He had piercing green eyes that met mine and held my gaze for a few seconds.
I could see his eyes quickly take me in, then he turned and continued following the others.
I felt my heart racing, I could barely breathe, I was not ready to deal with any of the local packs just yet, for all I know, my father could have put an alert out on me already.
I can just picture Jullian offering a reward to those that found me.
In a panic, I began grabbing my belongings. I stopped for a brief moment, watching my shaky hands, I took a couple deep breaths in and out, then grabbed the rest of my belongings. Once I had everything together, I stood on shaky legs.
I rushed to the car behind me and found an open seat near the door. I decided I would be getting off at the next stop.
It was one thing to come across one or two wolves, but five?
They all felt powerful enough that they had to be warriors or possibly a Gamma or even a Beta. I would doubt an Alpha would travel by train, but then there were five of them. Could they have been guards? They felt strong enough that one probably could have been an Alpha.
Sitting at the edge of my seat, I was anxiously waiting for the next stop. My eyes kept darting among the scenery outside, willing it to slow in passing, proving the train was slowing for its next stop, then back to the door worried they would come back looking for me.
I finally felt the train's motion slowing as my eyes watched the door to the next car.
As the train came to a stop, I was at the door waiting for it to open.
Once the doors opened I stuck my head out, looking to my left where I knew they had headed on the train and saw only a few others departing the train. None were from the group of males I saw, so I stepped off the train.
I wasted no time quickly walking towards the stairs. The stairs were a small distance from me but brought me closer to the end of the train where the other wolves had gone.
I kept watching the windows, praying I did not see them again, but apparently, I was not in the Moon Goddesses good graces tonight.
I saw that last large wolf with shoulder length hair again. He was sitting at the window a train car ahead of where I had originally sat.
I froze for a few seconds as his eyes landed on mine.
Those damn piercing green eyes, they watched me closely, making me feel like prey as I finally found the courage to move again.
The train started pulling away as I continued up the stairs into the main building.
I stopped and leaned against the wall. My heart was racing again.
‘What the hell was that?’ I asked Mia.
‘I don’t know but he isn’t coming after us, so calm down.’
I silently swore at my wolf, how could she be so calm right now?
‘Although, he was hot.’ Mia said, raising her eyebrows.
I fully agreed he was extremely hot, but I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction of responding to her comment.
‘Now what, this isn’t where you had planned to get off?’
I pulled out the little map I had brought with me.
‘No, but it's not far. Maybe we should stay near here instead, it isn’t that far from where I had planned.’
‘But it brings us closer to the Rockbridge pack territory.’ Mia reminded me.
‘I just need food and a bed; we can worry about the rest in the morning.’ I sighed, it was after ten pm. I doubted much would be open but started walking towards the exit.
This was a small town, unlike the stops I had earlier, those were major cities and I saw taxi’s outside waiting for people.
Here, it was like a ghost town, of course it was a Monday night, many people would be home in bed, needing to work in the morning.
