It continued as it rained through the night hitting the car windows as we drove home. Mother had the radio playing to drown out the sound of the raging storm outside as father drove us home. Brennan, my twin brother was seated next to me on his phone in the back. “Mom can you please change the song? This song is stupid.” Mother always had an unique taste in music which was quite opposite from my brothers. “Brennan what have I told you about using that kind of language.'' Father glanced up in the rear view mirror, “And I told you no phones in the car didn’t I? Give it here.” Brennan unbuckled his seatbelt and handed father his phone,”Honey watch out for the de-” mom screamed. Before I could comprehend what she was saying the car swerved to the right sharply on the wet road causing us to drift into oncoming traffic. All that could be heard were the screams of my family and the horn of the truck heading straight for us. At that moment it was as if we were the deer caught in headlights, it happened so fast the truck collided into the side of the car causing my head to hit the window due to the heavy impact. Everything was spinning all I could hear was the high pitch ring in my ear and my father's voice faintly calling my name. “Ow my head.”, out of reflex I reached up to touch my head only to quickly retreat my hand to see the blood on my fingers. Everything came back like a flood as reality sunk in. Brennan was slumped over his lap with his neck twisted harshly to the left, mothers hand could only be seen for the car was smashed in on her side, father was looking at me saying something I couldn’t understand. My hearing was coming back slowly but the rain drowned out most of my father's voice. I could only see my father's lips move as he tried to say something. Suddenly my eyesight is blinded by another set of headlights before they turn off to reveal a car parked in front of ours. “Basil? Basil are you okay?” Father turns to see the car come to a stop and a person gets out, “s**t, okay honey listen very carefully you are not like everyone else your very special remember that. Okay?” I looked at him confused, what he was saying didn’t make sense. I’m different? “Father what are u saying? I don’t understand?”, a tear escaped his eye “ I love you my little raindrop...ecstatic comprense”. That was the last thing I heard my father say before a harsh breeze hit my face and my back landed against what seemed like the ground. Opening my eyes I saw I was in the woods 30 feet from the crash sight only to witness a man going to the side of the car my father was at and aim a gun to his head. I tried to scream no and run to my father but it was as if I had no voice and my body was paralyzed. I couldn’t do anything, all I could do was watch as my father was murdered in front of my eyes. ‘BANG’ he shot once, ‘BANG BANG’ he shot twice.
I sat there in silence, didn’t move, didn’t cry, didn't even think. The person with the gun had driven off a while ago and police sirens could be heard in the distance. I didn’t even care at that moment as it continued to rain drenching my clothes. A police vehicle pulled up to the site inspecting the vehicles for survivors. I didn’t really think he would notice me all the way out here sitting on the ground until a light was flashed on my face and he started to approach me. I know he started asking me questions but I just couldn’t get myself to speak so I just looked up at the man and said nothing. I was placed in the back of his car as he got in and started the engine. I looked out the window to see my dead family still in the car. As the car drove away I watched until my dead family could not be seen anymore and all I could see was the dark tall trees of the forest. A tear rolled down my check followed by another. It felt as if I wasn’t truly there. I felt dull and empty but most of all I felt rage.
