Chapter 1
“How can I get to take over Lunaria?” King Maximus soliloquizes.
“I must take down Lunaria by all means, what gives Scarlett the audacity to have such a pack and besides they seem to be planting all the cash crops that are scarce in the whole country.” Maximus feels jealous, pacing up and down the palace till he comes up with an idea.
“Hmmmmm, I guess I know what to do. Hahaha hahaha!” Maximus smirks.
With a wild laugh, King Maximus comes up with an idea of getting married to Scarlett. “I guess she'll be a perfect match for me, at least I can get to feel a new fish after all it's been a long time since I tasted new folks and the old ones are beginning to taste sour”. King Maximus speaks with greed.
He immediately moves to the door as the guards follow him and he scolds them “Are you for real?? Would you get away from my side, you jerks?”, the other guards leave but one of them still insists on following him as Maximus is not concerned about them anymore. He hisses, walking out of the palace furiously, heading to the Lunaria pack.
“Hey!!!! Who is here”, Maximus screamed as they intruded the Lunaria palace.
Lila peeped through the window to check who it was but didn't open up until she heard another voice,
“I will take this place down now!!!!” Maximus screamed with a deeper-pitched voice.
Lila frightenedly opened up and begged “Please, have mercy on us, what do you want?”.
“Sir, please we can talk inside “ Lila hurriedly opened the door for him to enter, bowing and begging with her long flared skirt twirling about her as she lead Maximus and his guards into the council hall.
“Welcome King Maximus to the Lunaria pack, and what brings you to me this morning?” Scarlett questioned,
as King Maximus begins to look at her lustfully as he moved into the council hall.
Maximus's voice dripped with malice as he stood before the Lunaria pack's council, his eyes blazing with a fierce intensity. "You have two weeks to deliver the one they call Scarlett, the last living heir of the ancient bloodline," he growled, his deep voice echoing through the grand hall. "If she is not in my possession by the next full moon, I will unleash my wrath upon your pack. Your lands will burn, your people will suffer, and your very existence will be reduced to ashes."
The council members exchanged nervous glances, their faces pale with fear. They knew Maximus's power was not to be underestimated – his ruthless tactics and formidable army had already brought several packs to their knees.
Maximus's eyes narrowed. "I want Scarlett, the Luna of Lunaria, to be my queen. Refuse, and your pack will burn, I will not only destroy your pack, but I will enslave Scarlett in my pack and make your slaves not know happiness. "
Lila, Scarlett's mother, stood tall. "Scarlett is already betrothed. Her wedding is in three days." Lila frightens a bit, but tries to overcome it.
Maximus raised an eyebrow. "I want to see this husband of hers. If he's worthy, I might spare your pack."
Lila hesitated, knowing Scarlett was single. But she had to protect her daughter. "Very well, you'll see him at the wedding."
Scarlett was frantic. She needed a groom, and fast. Maximus walked out angrily and slammed shut the door behind him, the council chamber erupted into a flurry of anxious whispers and worried glances.
Lila's eyes met those of her closest allies, a silent message passing between them – they had three days to prepare for the wedding, and the fate of their pack hung in the balance.
Lila's eyes locked onto the closed door, her mind racing with strategies and countermeasures. She knew Maximus wouldn't hesitate to destroy their pack if he didn't get what he wanted. The weight of her responsibility as Scarlett's mother and protector settled heavy on her shoulders.
“Lila, what are we going to do?" asked Lysander , a young council member, his voice trembling.
“Don’t worry, we'll set out tomorrow in finding a Ravenhurst man for Scarlett.
The rules are: He must be at least dressed neatly and he should be a common man who can do this for us secretly.” Lila instructed the council.
“Ok ma, we will do as commanded” the head of the council agreeed.
Scarlett bended her head down as she did not have a choice. She had to find someone from Ravenhurst for a fake marriage, and she thought deeply of who she knew at Ravenhurst. She realized that she didn't have anyone there but becomes scared when she is pessimistic with her imaginations.
“I have to do this as soon as possible “ Scarlett whispered as she laid down on her vast bed that been prepared for her.
“Luna, your hot bath is ready” the servant reminded as she hadn't taken her bath for the night. She walked into the bath tub, with her imaginations of how she would approach a Ravenhurst guy. “Would he act bossy? Would he be proud and look down on others since he is from Ravenhurst? “ she thought. She immediately got rid of those thoughts after sliding into the bath tub. The maids began to clean her before she released them to go, then she slipped into the water enjoying the water all alone, soliloquizing on when she would find her true mate.
Scarlett leaped out of the bath tub as she called back the maids to come clean her up before putting on her night wears and bouncing back to her bed. She rolled to every side of her bed thinking about her next fate till she slept off.
The Next day, Lila woke up to the chirping of the birds, the workmen and their tools clashing together and the voices of the market occupants busying with their goods. “I guess I'll find someone for Scarlett today at the exchange market “Lila thought.
She then moved to Scarlett's room to wake her up for the days task. Later in the day, Lila, Scarlett and her guards set out to the borders of the market separating Ravenhurst from Lunaria. Scarlett was then interested in buying some slaves as she went down from the carriage to test them.
As she checked them for qualities, She found a guy running towards the slaves causing him to push her down. She immediately felt a dazzling shock running down her spine as he pulled her up and leaned her on her carriage running away again.
“He looks handsome though, ” Scarlett thought.. He then continued his race again to take another road when he almost collided with the assassins but he was fast enough to notice them and escaped with his sidekick hiding himself under Scarlett’s dress.
After the assassins moved a short distance ahead, he crawled out of her gown and introduced himself.
"Who are you?" she whispered back.
"My name is Liam," he replied, trying to move into the crowd but Scarlett dragged him back.
“What do you think you're doing? “Liam asks. Scarlett notices that he is being chased and proposes a contract marriage with him. “I'll protect you from your enemies if you would stand in as a fake groom for me in two days time”.
“What makes you think of such, you little jerk!” Liam smirks.
Scarlett becomes upset with him and suddenly, the assassins return, thinking they had lost Liam and immediately, Liam runs again under Scarlett’s gown but Scarlett refuses this time.
Liam's eyes locked onto Scarlett's, filled with a mix of desperation and gratitude. "Please, you have to help me," he whispered urgently. "I'll do anything."
Scarlett hesitated, unsure of what to do. But something about Liam's plea resonated with her. She nodded, and Liam's face lit up with relief as she hid him in her gown.
Quickly, the assassins passed into a nearby local restaurant as Liam said: "Thank you," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I owe you one."
Scarlett smiled wryly. "You can repay me by agreeing to a fake marriage," she said, her voice low.
Liam's eyes widened in surprise, but he nodded quickly. "Deal," he said. "I'll do it."
Scarlett's heart skipped a beat. She had found a fake husband, and maybe, just maybe, this would work out after all. “Please be sure to meet me at this restaurant later in the evening for our deal if not, you will have more aliens to run away from”, Scarlett threatened. “I'll try keeping to the deal”.Liam assured
Scarlett then moved back to her mother in the carriage as her mother asked her where she was. “I was just having a stroll around the market” Scarlett replied. ”Are you sure?”, Lila asked. “Come on, Mom, don't feel too insecure about me” Scarlett said as her mother nerves were relaxed.
“Phewww, that was close. Mom would have found out about Liam. I hope he just comes around and not forget our deal. I don't just know how I'll go about it “. Scarlett thought.
In the evening, Scarlett strolled into the proposed restaurant but she couldn't find Liam. She waited for hours but she realized that he had escaped, not keeping to the deal. “Oh no, I've lost him”, Scarlett mumbled.
She stood up from her chair leaving the restaurant in a frustrated manner. She was so worried about Liam causing her to have less sleep that night. Could she have really lost him, her first hope?
