Chapter 1 The Beginning
Over a span of hundreds of years, men have completely taken over the world as we know it. Using all of their efforts to eradicate the women fighting for their rights in mass amounts, until they couldn't do anything but die or fall in line to be used for what the men saw fit. Which wasn't much besides baby making and being a pleasure resource for the armies they created this way. They made sure that women wouldn't be able to come back and revolt from this way of life by slowly desensitizing and understimulating anything in their brains, which ended up dumbing the mass amounts of them down throughout the years, not allowing them to have any thoughts of their own. If they found out they did, then they would be killed or tortured, taught by everyone else with thoughts that this is something that could end horribly for them and that this is something that definitely won't be tolerated by men. So it's best to put any thoughts to rest. That's if they want to have a future, but what kind of future is that? So, over time, women weren't even allowed to talk or would be beaten or killed for doing so. They could only respond when being spoken to and that was if the male asked for their response. If not, then there would also be repercussions for the actions of their words. The last time they were recorded having thoughts and actions of their own was when women almost took over completely. That is until the mass amounts of murder happened in response. The only reason men didn't kill off women completely was because they had enough sense to know that they needed women to keep the line of men growing into the future. So these same men killed any woman who even portrayed thoughts or ambitions, and only raised women without any. They kept them around in a type of breeding farm, keeping the women in small amounts so they couldn't revolt in any kind of way. This way, they were easily controlled. When boys are born they are praised as if they are princes, being shown it is only good to be a man in this world, being doted on until they are old enough to hold a knife or gun, taught at a young age how to hunt, torture and kill. Reading is barely necessary, they are only taught to recognize the reading of certain markings just to make sure they do not get lost while out and about in this very lonely world that has been almost completely taken over by the greenery. The only thing that men seem to succeed with is the building and maintaining of weapons, but the mass amounts of killing around them is making the meat run scarce. This, in response, is scaring the men's colony into easily killing off their own for little to no reasons, just to make sure that they don't run out of food. For whatever reason, no matter how hard they try, they can't seem to maintain the plant life, making meat almost their only source of food. What they didn't know, from being distracted by all of the surrounding issues, is that some women and men who fought against the treatment of women, ended up surviving their attacks when the men thought they had assassinated all of them. So, for all of their safety and wanting to survive for as long as they could, they went underground together as a team. It was an easy decision for the women involved, but for the men, their decisions were swayed by not only the horrible treatment of the women, but by also seeing how their kind turned on them without hesitation or even a second thought. So after many years without anyone knowing that they survived, they were able to cultivate a peaceful world where men and women grew and lived as one, surviving with one another hand in hand the way they thought the world should be. As partners and equals in their own rights. They seemed to thrive on their own with the help of each person. Each individual had their own roles which were decided by what they were good at and could bring to the new world. This was learned by their teachings or what they were naturally good at, but not by what gender they were. Causing the world as they knew it to grow while they continued to learn as much as they could. But in doing so, they made sure to stay as far away from the men's compound as they deemed necessary. Because if brought together, it could mean the damnation of one, if not both, of the worlds they have spent all of this time and effort creating over the many years given. No one wants that, so it's best just to keep the worlds apart for as many years as they can, if not forever. ‐---‐---------- Kaya's POV The breeze caresses across my skin, as I lie in the grass staring up at the dark rock above. It's almost as dark as the night sky seems to be when I have gone above the surface. But with the little bits of light shining through, reflecting off of the glistening rock and water around, I can tell the light of day is still out and about just as I am. I slowly sit up picking out the bits of grass from my hair as I stretch my arms out wide. I watch as the very small children happily run and play together, while the older ones sit and listen to the teachings the leaders provide in each subject, waiting for their chance to go out and test what they know. I smile to myself as I wave at the familiar faces, while making my way through the clusters of children, cultivating plants and builders as they continue to fix the structures we have while making more. I can't help but to love every single second of this time that has been given to me. The world I know has always been peaceful. But that is the life that the mother's have given us all. They have made sure to tell us about a time long, long ago, when women tried to shape a peaceful world with men and animals alike. Trying to build something amazing that will last for lifetimes with them. But the stronger and more intelligent that the women became, the more men hated it and fought against it. The only time they seemed to appreciate and not be offended by the efforts, was when women called to them for help and wisdom. But throughout the years, when the women surpassed the men in many things involving intelligence, their resentment grew into something far more dangerous. It turned into an ideal of life where women have no opinions at all, and killed off for any ideas they have had that could make them stronger or better in any way than men. They somehow turned most, if not all men against women, until they used all their strength and weapons to take over.. killing many and caging the women that wouldn't or couldn't fight, putting them into cages as if they were beasts. Before brainwashing them to not have any ideas of their own until they were nothing more than cattle that they used to reproduce. I shudder at the idea of having to live in a world like that. It's terrifying to think that the men that think like this have still somehow survived, instead of destroying one another. I hear from most of the Elders, that this still takes place up above the surface, no matter how much we would like to think that the devastating world would be gone by now. But it is not. Luckily for us though, since we don't go up there unless it is for extra supplies, which doesn't happen often. We have developed our own way of life underneath the surface. The scientist elders we have heard so much about brought only a few men who knew their worth and cherished them for it, so they could reproduce and build a life of peace and solitude together. They somehow created gardening systems after many different attempts to make sure everyone had food. It was developed to help grow and contain crops for the people for many years. Apparently the soil here underneath the surface is rich and much better than above, so the gardening is not only thriving, but somehow much bigger than they ever were above the surface. They also found that underneath the ground there was lots of purified water which was great for drinking and growing. Which has been some of the biggest reasons for our survival down here. Besides the fish, birds and small game that wander around the area with us. But we don't kill everything we can, we only kill when we need it and even then, we make sure to use every last bit of the animal to create cloth to cover our bodies, bones and feathers for the weapons, hair for the line to catch fish and so on. We make sure nothing is wasted, so a kill is more than a kill, it's the survival of our people in more ways than one. We were told that our first Elders seemed to study the men's compound from afar for many years, which started out just trying to figure out where their boundaries were, so we could stay away from them while building their own lives to thrive in. It was mostly so they wouldn't give them any reason to come around us or even know about us.. but it evolved into trying to see if they knew anything we didn't about surviving in this seemingly harsh world. But come to find out, they really don't. We know more or at least developed more than what they have. Even with all the torment and torture effortlessly distributed to the people of our peaceful clan over the years from the men's compound, our first Elders still wanted to help them, especially since they are not heartless people who could see the men weren't succeeding on their own merits. I think it was a pretty plain and simple observation, to hypothesize that they wouldn't be thriving for much longer if they keep going in this trajectory. So being the nice people our first Elders were, they dropped off some good plants by their compound but out in the open, showing it wasn't normally there, just so they could start cultivating to make more, but they crushed it, thinking it was a weed or something. We assumed they would know what to do with them.. but when the men crushed it, our Elders decided to take it to their camp and trying again with a new plant, but once again, they crushed it with no thoughts as to why it was there, let alone what they should do with it. So the next route they tried was to drop off a tapestry they had with directions on how to make our cultivators for our plants. They are a green house, or at least that's what we call them. But they just laughed at the idea of doing something so frivolous as they stated, before burning it as if was nothing to them. When it was the closest thing to a peace offering that we could come up with. But it wasn't even cherished for what it was, or what it could be if properly taken care of. This is where the first Elders stated that they had learned that men won't accept help even when they 'discover it themselves'. There was no helping them if they didn't want to be helped. So they moved on, completely separating themselves from the men, fully knowing that we have to worry about ourselves and not them anymore, no matter how bad they feel towards them. It's hard to watch people die off and fail at something that they know they could help out with if given the chance. But they learned too long ago that they won't accept our help let alone treat us like equals, and we need to make sure to remember that for our own safety and survival into our own future.
