Chapter 16 Interrupting Our Leave

2114 Words
Kaya's POV I walk over to the fire and using my foot to push over the dirt on it making sure that I only see the smoke after putting it out as Atlas grabs the rabbit carcass to bring with him. We pack everything up pretty quickly, getting everyone together before we head out. That is until Crew starts growling. I swallow the lump in my throat as my eyes start to ping around the area, looking for what he may see within the darkness. The only light we have to see anything around is the bright moonlight above, but with the fire out we can't see much at all. I don't hear nor see anything, but obviously Crew does and that's what scares me. All of us know this means trouble as we start to make a circle, our backs are facing one another, as our eyes look for anything around that would be a possible threat. I take out my bow and arrow, stringing the arrow within my hand as I pull it back and ready to let the arrow fly if need be. I can see in my peripherals that my friends have their weapons out as well. Our grips tighten around our weapons just hoping there is nothing to defend ourselves against, but making sure the weapons are out to not take the chance of being caught off guard. My anxiousness is filling me up completely, putting me on edge from not knowing what is out there. I would rather know what's setting my dog off over anything else. But this deep darkness that is surrounding us is making that much harder than I would have ever wanted. I let out a deep breath as I try to give my eyes time to adjust to the dark. They are not completely there but almost. The silence for me seems to be suffocating, I just wish I could hear or see something. Right as that thought rings in my head I can hear tree branches breaking as the bushes move in front of me. This makes Crew growl even louder than before. My heart thumps like an incredibly loud drum in my chest as I start feeling myself shaking, wondering if it's Flynn, or an enemy from him betraying me.. or even wildlife. I wish I knew. When I see the bushes shaking in front of me again, the anticipation seems to get the better of me as I yell out. "Just come out and show yourself." I don't know why I said it, but it just fell from my lips effortlessly, almost hoping that it was Flynn once again. But as a familiar mischievous face emerges, I can feel my heart drop. It's not Flynn.. it's his friend that he helped out of my trap. "Why are you here and where is Flynn? He promised to let us go without bothering us again.. So why are you here? Send him out so I can talk to him about this." I declare with as much confidence as I can muster, while still gripping the bow and arrow in my hands, still ready to fly at any moment. "Yeah he might have promised you this, but I did not promise a thing.. Oh and about Flynn.. he is a caring and understanding man, which makes him incredibly weak, especially in situations that could benefit us as men. He asked me to leave you alone, even after I offered you to him as a gift to give your friends up to our colony, but he wouldn't accept my idea of bringing you back as an offer to our leader. So we took care of him." He declares with so much darkness in his eyes that it blends in with the background. This comment sends a fear through me at that idea. My body starts to tremble, I can see the tip of the arrow shaking about, not staying pointed on the target at hand. I try to not let the fear show on my features as the words tremble from my lips. "You killed your comrade after he helped you, because he asked you not to hurt me nor my friends?" The man laughs at my inquiry as he shakes his head. "Lets not worry about the details, all you need to know is that, you're on our territory and all of you need to come with us before things turn dark for each and every one of you." he spats this with in a malice tone that sends chills through me that I never want to experience again. "We are not on your territory, and we made sure of that.. So we don't have to go anywhere with you.. and I think with there being only one of you, there is nothing you can do about us leaving... right now." I spat at him before he steps forward showing a gun hanging from around him, quickly pointing it at me as I freeze in place. "I am not alone and there is plenty we can do to stop you from leaving." I shake my head as I hold my breath, not knowing what to say in response as we see two more men coming out of the shadows with similar guns in their hands. "Just come with us and there will be nothing to worry about." he says again as I scoff at that comment before responding. "If we come with you, there will be plenty for us to worry about." The smirk that appears on his face is something that creeps me out without question, because it shows there is more in his mind than what he is saying out loud.. and for me on this end of things it doesn't look good. "I thought it would be fun to hear a woman talking for once, but I'm finding out that you don't know when to shut up. You need to learn your place in this world that is ran by men. You're not better than us and if I have to be the one to teach you that lesson I will." he declares as Crew barks incredibly loud, ringing in my ears. I think he can tell that this man is threatening me. Maybe it's the thickness of the tension in the air right now or the anger and irritance that he is radiating, but either way I think we know how this is going to end, with a fight. "We need to get out of here and now." Tallulah whispers as we nod. "I am going to start this and as I do, the ladies need to run." Orson whispers back as we shake our heads. "Were not leaving you here with them." Soya softly states trying to lecture them but only for us to hear. "Too bad.. They want you three.. Not us.. and you know what they would do to you if given the chance.. so lets not give them the chance." Atlas agrees with Orson as they nod again, causing us to shake our heads. "Your whispering plans won't help you.. Unless if it involves coming with us without a fight." He spats again as Orson repeats. "I am going to start this and all three of you are going to run.. get out while you can." "I'm sorry for this.. I'm sorry.. I should have killed them while I had the chance." I declare to my friends, since this might be my last chance to do so. "You're a kind heart and your trust wasn't misplaced with the man you talked with.. you didn't know his comrades were going to turn on him for defending us." Tallulah states this as I feel even worse. I hate that this is my fault and I will never forgive myself, no matter how this ends. "Ok.. you need to run.. now." Orson says to us as he throws his knife, hitting one of the men in the shoulder, sending him back as he quickly shoots his gun, hitting Orson in the leg. I let my arrow fly as it hits the man in front of me in the neck, shooting straight through on the side of his neck causing him to groan out in pain before all of us try to run. But the man grabs my arm, pulling me back as I yelp out, playing a tugging war with him over my limb. That is until Crew steps in and bites his leg, not letting him hurt me if he can help. But without hesitation, he takes his gun and shooting my dog and comrade. I scream out in terror as I hear his yelp and body go limp. I punch a kick this man, now wrestling him for his gun with all the anger inside of me. I am able to push it towards his own legs and feel as I push the trigger down shooting him in the leg and foot. He tries to point the gun up, but I just make sure it is pointed at the tree as it goes off again but luckily this time not hitting anyone. I bite this man in the shoulder causing him to yell out as he pushes me down on the ground besides Crew's limp body. "Crew.. not my baby crew." I declare with tears streaming down my face as I see he was just hit in the legs with both hits.. he is awake and trying to crawl away but with only one leg to help that isn't possible. I pick him up quickly standing as the tears continue to run from my eyes. I see Tallulah, frozen in place, wanting to help but not being able to. She has never been the fighting type. I quickly hand her Crew. "You need to take him and go.. I will help the men, but you need to go.. now." I declare as she shakes her head but holding Crew tight into her arms. A squeal is heard as Soya is grabbed by one of the other men. I quickly grab my knife as I throw it across the way and into his leg, he yells out letting go of Soya as she runs over to Atlas who is not much of a fighter himself, so he somehow was taken down to the ground. I can't tell if he is hurt or not, but I have no time to investigate. I see Orson fighting with the other man but they are going fist for fist, not sure where his gun is, but it makes me feel better not to see it. I feel my leg being grabbed as I am tripped to the ground, falling and hitting the dirt. I kick and yell out as I see this same man as before, but he looks livid at me. I kick at his face as I try to scoot back before hitting a tree. I use it to help me stand as I continue to kick at his face over and over again until he lets my leg go, but he doesn't stop coming for me. He punches me in the face and stomach as I groan out in pain. This causes a laugh to emerge from him with a type of satisfaction that gives him the strength to keep doing this. He punches me again in the stomach before hovering over me, leaning down and stating in my ear. "This is how females are supposed to be treated and you better get that through your head, or you will be murdered for your treacherous thoughts." I bite his ear at that comment, biting a chunk off as he yells and jumps back before I spit the piece of ear at him. "That is not the world I choose to live in." I spat at him before he c*cks back his hand to slap me across the face. I groan out before shoving him away from me as he grabs my arms, then shoving me back into the tree as he held my arms back, not allowing me to move them at all. I groan out in pain, having a hard time breathing as I gasp for air while trying to fight his tight hold on my arms. This just causes him to use his grip on my arms to lift me then shove me back into the tree again, knowing it's hurting my back as I groan out in pain. This makes his smile grow, with a look in his deranged eyes that is terrifying. I don't know how I am going to get out of this.
