Chapter 23 Cold Water

2149 Words
Flynn's POV I just love having a companion like her, she brings light to the situation even if there is any misunderstandings. But as we continue on for a while with no success of finding food, I feel myself getting frustrated, not seeing much around. I think she knows just as much as I do that most of the wildlife in this area comes out at night, so just the fact that it is daytime is making this much harder than it needs to be. I can't see a living being around besides the birds far above and the bugs buzzing around, which neither helps us out, so we continue on until we get over to the nearby river. "Nothing is out and about just yet.. So.. Maybe we should just make our way to my home. I'm sure they will be wanting to know that I am ok, but they would also have some food and better herbs to help us out with our wounds." she suggests as I stiffen up, feeling not only nervous about that suggestion, but just straight weary. I would imagine that they would chastise me for just being a man and involved with the men's compound. Especially since I am the reason that all of this started and that her friends were hurt badly. She can see the hesitation in my eyes as she clears her throat. "I think we should at least try." I let out a deep breath before suggesting, "Maybe we should try our luck out here for a little longer." She nods as we continue to walk. "Yes.. maybe we can continue this in the direction of my home." I swallow the large lump within my throat as I nod, not knowing what else to say. It's not that I don't want to go with her. I mean come on at this rate, I would follow her to the ends of the earth, but I am terrified at what her community and even family will think of me just because of whom I have been associated with for my entire life. They probably won't even accept me, let alone think that I won't do something to terrorize them or help the men's compound out in some way. No matter how many ways I can try to reassure them I wouldn't do that, I don't think they would be able to take me seriously to trust me. They don't even know me.. Kaya doesn't even know me well yet.. I don't know.. I feel my heart jump-starting at the thought, but the urge within me to be by Kaya's side is far too strong to ever turn her idea down, I guess.. Maybe I can just try everything else possible before we have to resort to going where she wants to. We keep wandering, only seeing guards sporadically, but that is easily avoided for us, but enough to keep us on edge. I keep an eye out on everything around, knowing about when we will receive a guard in our midst, but it is not exact with the timing, because not all the men are predictable, but enough that I have been able to keep us out of sight. We wander off the beaten path, so hopefully we won't be seen but that is no guarantee. We can see and hear the river in front of us, putting even more pep in our steps. Luckily, the river should be loud enough to cover our sounds as we try to see if there is anything in the water to catch. I have always had some good luck at this river, but only in time, so we will see if we have enough time to achieve success. The bugs show that there is a lot of potential for success as they fly over the water. You can see fish jumping in and out as they catch one bug after the next. In and instant I see her get excited at this image in front of us, teasing us of what we could have. "Yum, I love fish!" she exclaims while prancing past me and to the bank to get a better look. My smile naturally grows into a face-splitting one before I say. "Well, luckily for us, we have the knife you brought to make sure we can eat it." I watching her pull a long twine from the stitching of her cloth, using the knife to cut it. I am surprised though, the cloth somehow stays together on her body even after losing that much twine. Maybe she held it together with many more stitches of twine. Who knows? "Why wouldn't we be able to eat it if we caught it?" She asks as she looks over at me curiously, watching me get a large stick for us to use, breaking all the extra and small branches off of it, so its just one long stick and as smoothed as I can get it this quickly. "Well, because of parasites, of course." I reply as she shakes her head with confusion apparent on her features. "What is that?" I lean the tip of the stick in front of her so she can tie the twine to it as I explain. "Well parasites are little bugs that survive inside of an animal, eating from their organs.. If you get it inside of you, you feel very sick and will eventually die." "Really?" she asks with so much shock and awe that I just nod. "Yeah, so every time we catch the fish over here we open it up and make sure we can eat them." She nods her head, thinking about that before she asks. "What if the fish has parasites.. then what do you do with it? I would hate to waste anything after killing it." I understand that as I think about all the ways you could possibly use it to help her feel better. "We have chopped them up, getting rid of the parasites as much as we can, then using the pieces as bait for another fish.. but there is not a whole lot you can do with the fish without hurting yourself or others in the long run if it has parasites.. so it's best to just get rid of it before anything happens to yourself." She continues to nod staring at me with so much intrigue in her eyes making me feel as I am actually interesting before the words I never knew I needed to hear escaped her lips as she says, "I had no idea, and that is something very important to know.. You're so smart Flynn." That comment alone makes me feel amazing as I watch her stand and head towards the water. "What are you doing?" I ask as she says, "going for a swim." I shake my head frantically looking around making sure no one is coming this way as she slowly walks into the water with her clothing still on. I place the fishing stick to the ground as I look back to her. "That is not safe Kaya." I declare walking after her before standing at the edge of the water that is deep and moving quickly with the currents drifting around her. "I am dirty, and covered in blood.. I have to wash it off." she states drifting further from the bank before bringing the water to her face as she washes every last bit of blood off of her face, then her neck and some of her chest before she goes to her arms. She hums out smiling to herself as I watch her eyes ping back over to me. I clear my throat getting nervous because I like this sight far too much. I can feel myself getting distracted as my eyes cling to her. "Alright, you're clean.. Please Kaya.. you need to get out before something bad happens." I say protectively over her as she smiles big and nodding. "You're right.. this was foolish no matter how good the water feels.. Please help me out." she asks as I nod putting one foot into the water, leaning out with my hand extended as she inches closer to me. She reaches out for my hand with hers as I keep looking behind us and around as I feel her petite hand grabbing mine. I look down to see a mischievous smile on her face as she pulls my arm, I automatically lose balance and falling in the water behind her. The cold water covers every last inch of me, shocking me, because of not expecting that at all and being just what I needed to fully wake me up. When my head emerges from the water, I spit some out while I stand up in the water that is deep but not too deep for me.. My shoulders are just barely sticking out. I wipe the cold water off of my face as I hear Kaya laughing loudly at my soaked demise. I want to be mad at her, but with the big contagious smile on her face along with that melodic laugh, I can't help but to smile with her, as my mind tells me to stop because I should be mad, but I really don't think I could ever be mad at her. I shake my head as she swims over to me, I reached out and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her through the water to me as she laughs and squeals out. "You're playfulness is going to get us killed Kaya." I state as she inches closer, treading in the water as I wrap my arms around her, giving her arms a break as her smile gets bigger. "Oh come on Flynn, you can't be too mad at me can you? You were dirty as well and the water feels amazing does it not?" She asks as she wraps her arms around the back of my neck. "I don't think I could ever be mad at you." I softly say staring her big doe eyes that shine under the sunlight, showing the bits of yellow glistening through the mostly brown eyes. I take my eyes from hers as I notice that she bites her bottom lip, staring at mine as I slowly lean in, wanting to get another taste but not knowing if that is what she wants, no matter what signals that I think she may be sending me. She doesn't object as I inch closer until our lips collide once again, but this time her hands are holding onto the back of my head, bringing me closer than I had originally anticipated. I wrap my arms all the way around her torso making sure to bring her whole body in so there is no space between us before I feel her legs wrapping around my waist. My hands then slowly drift down from her back to her hips, then to her thighs. I wait for some type of objection, but it doesn't come. My hands grip her thick thighs tighter, causing her to moan into my lips, getting me excited just from that sound alone. I love it, wanting to hear that as long as I can. I can feel her tongue drifting into my mouth and gently playing with my tongue. I feel my eyes rolling back, just loving how great all of this feels, but now there is no way to hide my hardened member except for leaving it under the water. I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable because of my body being uncontrollable around her. So hopefully she won't notice or I will calm down, but that's easier said than done, since I never want my lips to leave hers. This is probably the best moment of my life, hands down. That is until I hear the sound of men's voices in the distance. I rip my lips away as I look to one side, then the other. "Did you not like that? What I did with my tongue? I'm sorry it just happened naturally." She tries to explain as I start to move us through the water and closer to the shoreline. I look to see some trees that could give us cover. I move faster through the water and behind those trees, just hoping it would be enough to cover us from their sight because we don't have time to get out of the water and I would imagine that we would make too much noise getting out anyway. "Flynn?" she says looking worried, so I lean in and kiss her again before whispering into her lips. "I loved every second of it, but we need to be quiet now.. I heard someone." I say as she opens her mouth, then shuts it since she hears the men talking like I had.
