Selene lives in a world where bath salt created zombies, and COVID-19 was the start of the end. Virus created zombies, vampires, and lycanthropes came out of the woodwork while the "14-day quarantine" occurred. Many people died, but not all of them stayed that way.

The Beginning
People on bath salts biting other people's faces off was the beginning. The cops had no choice but to execute these individuals and take the victims to the hospital. While the general population believed that the victims were treated and released, only a few knew the truth. The CDC and other government agencies covered up the truth. The victims started attacking the nurses and taking bites out of them. That was when the government took all impacted individuals to area 51. A few years later, the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. While everyone was in the "14-day quarantine," things turned for the worst. Zombies, vampires, and lycanthropes all came out of nowhere and killed more people. The government again tried to cover it all up by inflating the COVID-19 deaths to account for dead neighbors. 5 Years Later "Selene, where are you going?" Brian asked.Brian was 4 years older than me and had taken the role of protector when our parents died during the COVID-19 pandemic. We both had the same majogany brown hair and brown eyes that both of our parents had. That was about where our similarities ended. I was tan while he was pale from being inside monitoring the security cameras all day. I loved training outside and couldn't wait to exit the walls of "The Compound." I was tall for a female at 5'6" and had a lean build. I kept my should length hair tied back most of the time due to practice. Brian was over 6 feet tall and had a buzz cut, he had stopped working out as much and was loosing his flat abs. "I'm tired of being cooped up inside. I've trained for this, and I'm going out with the recon group." I told my brother. "You're not ready. You're too young and not experienced enough." Brian informed me. "Last I checked, you were my age during your first recon, AND you didn't have the years of training I've had. You survied, and so will I." I glared at him defiantly. Brian sighed, "Be careful, will ya?" I gave my brother a hug and put on my training gear of black leather pants, a black fitted t-shirt, a bullet-proof jacket, arm pads, and a helmet. I was ready to go out for my first recon mission. One Hour Later What was I thinking? I was not prepared for what waited outside the gates for us. The pictures and the training didn't come close to seeing everything up close and personal. During the day, we only really had to worry about the zombies since the vampires needed dark and the lycanthropes were just aggressive humans. The zombies weren't all shuffling along like everyone thought. Some could run and fight back. "s**t," I breathed out as I dodged another zombie while running. There had been five of us when we left the compound on foot, we walked about a mile out before the shuffling zombies found us. They were easy to take out with a simple sword cut to the neck. As long as there was no hesitation, a sharpened sword slid right through the neck. A half mile later, we were ambushed by the faster zombies. Lex was killed first as she didn't have her guard up and had sheathed her sword. We all formed a circle with our backs to each other. I swung my sword and sliced off an arm of a zombie that was reaching for me. There were still over ten zombies surrounding us. Alan was the next to be killed. He had been my trainer. He had been holding his own until five zombies ganged up on him at once. Even the best can't hold up to more than two at a time. That was when Richard yelled for me and Diana to run. We sliced through the zombies, and both took off running back towards the compound. I made a rookie mistake and glanced back in time to see Richard being taken down by the fast zombies. Doing so also gave me the view of at least ten fast zombies coming after Diana and myself. Training Two Weeks Ago "Selene," Alan barked at me, "what is the best course of action to take if you are being chased by fast zombies?" "How many are there?" I inquired. "More than you can fight, which is?" "Safely, one. With luck, two, may...be three." I replied. "Good, but there are at least five. So, what do you do?" I stared at him, and we hadn't discussed this. He must want to know what I would instinctively do. I took a deep breath and winged it. "Since there would be a zero percent chance of survival as is, I would try to find higher ground. A water tower would be best as climbing would slow them down significantly, and I would only need to have to kill one at a time." "What if there are only buildings?" Alan countered. My jaw dropped. That was not a great scenario. Inside of buildings could be vampires or lycanthropes. "Well, Selene, what would you do?" Alan prompted again. "I would take a risk and enter the building that had the most windows. That would decrease the risk of vampires, but I would still have to worry about lycanthropes. Lycanthropes will help kill the zombies if they see them, so that decreases some risk for me." Alan smirked. "Decent thinking, you may just survive when you get out in the field." Present day I ran for the closest building that had glass windows praying it wouldn't be the last thing that I ever did.
