BURNT: THE MAFIA QUEEN
Chapter 1 Echoes of my stiletto heels hitting against the black marble floors of “The Basement” filled the silent dark room. An act I've been told sends shivers down the spines of my victims. An act I love so much because it plays the role of an intro to the songs I'm about to make rain. “ I don't know anything, I swear!”Jacob yells, or is it Jared? I wouldn't know, I don't keep names of traitors. He looks up from his feet into the dark, towards my direction. Terror filled in his eyes. Probably not because he's figured out I am the one approaching him, but because he can't see what kind of danger or torture is approaching him. He shimmers in his wooden chair, trying very hard to release his hands tied at his back. Of course, he must be really stupid if he thinks that's going to work. Rod never lets a victim escape his ropes, especially not traitors. I laugh, a melodious, cold laughter and that gets him to halt. I didn't think Jay or Jaime could look more scared than he did a few minutes ago, before figuring out I was the danger approaching of course. “Oh please, don't let my presence stop you”, I erge and stepped into the light produced from the tiny bulb dangling above my prisoner's head. “ By all means, do continue”, I finish off, earning the most terrified look I've ever seen a man at 40 portray for a 23 year old. A female 23 year old to be precise. I smirked at the sight. “You look really troubled Mr…”, “Please, Let me go Mildred. I didn't do it I swear”, Jack cuts me off, or whatever his name is. “What did he just do?”, I sigh a question at Rod. “He just cut you off. And called you by your first name”, Rod responds between gritted teeth. I could tell his patience was already out for this traitor. “I didn't mean to. I swear”, my prisoner pleads, and earns a chain slap from Rod, causing him to spill out blood. “You speak, when spoken to”, Rod's tolerance had been breached. I smirk at that. “Looks like I'm not the one getting my hands dirty after all. I'd hate to still the fun from my father's second most trusted man,” I say , relief in my tone. “With pleasure”, Rod roars. “ No please, boss, I beg you, I swear I didn't do it. I didn't know of their plan I swear”, James keeps screaming. “You really like to swear a lot. Rod, take his tongue first, it's not like we need any information from him”, I order, and wave my hand in a signal for a chair. I sit, of course, to watch the wonderful show unfold before me. A distraction I'd say, to the boring drama I'd be forced to watch later. “With pleasure”, Rod roars again. “No! No! No ! Please!! Aaahh!!!!!”, there it is, the melodious song, such wonderful music to my ears. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° “Oh darling, you're finally home”, mother says with delight in her voice. An unreal delight I like to call it. “Mother”, I say flatly , and allow her to plant her fake air kisses by my cheeks, a show for the guests at the ball. “You look so beautiful, in, erm, your all black outfit”, she says jokingly, but not forgetting to add her fake chuckles to it. “Why aren't you in the dress I got you and why the heck do you smell like you just killed someone”, she whispers , but her voice is stern. I roll my eyes at that. “I'm returning from work. How would you want me to appear in front of our enemies in a f*****g dress?”, I ask, my voice neutral and simple. Unlike her, I don't do drama and I don't like to put on a show. “You're not supposed to be working today Milly. I called your father and”, “My father , isn't here, and this had to be taken care of. It's so sad you keep forgetting that you're the only mafia princess in this family. I'll be in my room”,I cut her off, of course I did. Because I hate it when she uses the ”fake concern” voice. “ Milly don't..”, I walk away from her and head upstairs. The corner of my eye, I catch her laughing awkwardly at her guests, her fellow princesses of wealth, only the majority of them are not in the mafia. She's probably lying to them that I'm not well or that I'm going to take a nap because I'm too stressed and tired from work. I roll my eyes at that and step into my cold and dark room. “What did you do to your mother this time around Milly, she wouldn't stop complaining?”, I turn to meet my best friend Sansa, standing at the entrance of my room with my door wide open, her hands still on the door knob. “Hi princess”, I tease back, she knows I hate being called that. “Okay okay, I take it back. Hi Mildred”, she corrects, and a broad smile spreads on her face- something my face hasn't done in over ten years. “C'mon, you know you missed me”, she sighs , walking into the room with arms spread wide. “You're projecting. And I'll drop those arms if I wanted to keep them”, I warn, she knows I hate hugs. “Geez, always so cold and evil minded”, she admits. ~I couldn't agree more, I think to myself. “Anyway, guess what?”, she says, enthusiastically. I groan, because anything Sansa likes is the opposite of what I like. She's all glitters and sunshine, when I'm more of a vampire's cave girl. She falls in love crazy fast like her life depends on it, and I've never fallen in love for the second time. I've had to unalive a few of her wonderful exes because she really knows how to pick the heartbreakers, and those who truly love her, she ends up being the heartbreaker. “Oh c'mon, it's nothing bad”, she erges, but I've been here plenty of times before. I sigh, “What?”, I finally ask the question she's been dying to hear. Another broad smile spreads on her pretty little face, she claps her pink stiletto nails and breathes, “My father has agreed to let me pick the husband I prefer. Of course from a list of names he's given. But still!! I get a say in who I'm to marry. Isn't that great??”, she screams excitedly, I can't help but give a tiny little smile which she always notices, a smile I only give her, and my little niece. “I'm happy for you Sans”, I say genuinely, even though it comes out flat as normal, she knows I mean it. “I know right, I'm so happy. Now here's what I wanted you to guess”, she says and bites her lips, probably because she recalled what she wants me to guess, a favor. “No”, I say sternly. “Oh please Mildred, you're the only one I can trust to help me pick the right one. I mean you work with these men, you know them way more than I do”, she pleads. “No”, I repeat. “C'mon. Would you rather I picked an abuser for a husband when you could have helped me pick. And you know these mafia marriage alliances, as a mafia princess, my role is to be given up to form an alliance and cut off loyalty and probably belongingness with my family. My father wouldn't save me from an abusive marriage and risk breaking an alliance, especially after asking me to pick a husband myself self, you know that, and…”, “Fine! Geez”, I surrender. I wasn't ready to have her talk my ears off. “ Yayyy!!”, she exclaims and runs out of my room back to the ball screaming, “ I need to go, mother said not to stay too long. Bye!!”. I sigh, and walk over to my door and shut it. It's just picking a husband for my best friend, how bad could it go.
