Shifted

It took forever for Malaysia to fall asleep. She had been dreading this moment forever. I hated this more for her than myself because I was the reason for her suffering. Two years ago, I had chosen Jessica as my mate, and I wasn't really into her then. I mean, don't get me wrong, she was cute and a bit of a tease. Over time, though, she grew on me. It stopped being about me trying to get in her pants. Why, because she asked real questions that no one else did, even Malaysia. She made me think and before long I'd fallen for her. Then she didn't get her wolf. She was devastated, and I could have dropped her then, but I didn't care. Even though I knew what was coming. See my birthday was a week before Jess's and when it came I discovered my true mate. Yes, true mate, Malaysia was my gift from the moon goddess, and I don't give a damn what Kye's self-righteous ass says or believes, but resisting the bond between a true mate is impossible. He refused to talk about it at all. As much as I loved Jess, I desired Malaysia too. I know it's selfish, but there was just something I couldn't put my finger on where Jess was concerned, and I couldn't let go. That and the fact that she was the first girl who didn't just give herself to me made her all the more desirable. Malaysia and I kept putting off telling her. We didn't want to hurt her and, most importantly, lose her. Malaysia had said to me a thousand times that if she lost Jess she would die. She was even open to the idea of sharing. That might have worked had Jess's dad not walked in on them having s*x. He lost it! I was now fully aware of why he was our war general. The son-of -a-b***h almost took me out. It took me and my father and his Beta to stop him and when Evelyn happened upon the scene she tried helping her mate, she and my mother had fought to the death. Now we were scrambling to try to figure out who Jessica's father truly was. The man had easily fought two Alphas and a beta. No way in hell was he a regular wolf. And Jess had not even flinched at my father or my mother's voice. Yet she had no wolf, impossible. I needed to see her, talk to her, explain. I knew Kye was still into Jess and if he moved in on what was mine there was going to be a problem. Kye was my best friend, but things had been shaky for a while. He had lost respect for me and I understood why. I tossed a hoodie over my head and made my way to Jess's house while Malaysia was still sleeping. I knocked several times and there was no answer. I tried contacting Kye but he was blocking me. Then an image of them making love entered my mind and I kicked the door in. I went to her room and no one was there. Where the hell were they? I sat and waited for nearly an hour before going back to the pack house. Malaysia was sitting on my bed when I walked in, "What did she say, does she hate us?" "I don't know she wasn't there, and I am exhausted." I stripped my clothes off and crawled into the bed next to Malaysia, "I keep seeing it replaying in my mind," "I know me too, but we had to do it, Malaysia, you know that right?" I asked as I rubbed her cheek. "He was so angry," Malaysia said to me. I could feel her shiver. I hated this because if I had a daughter, I would have been furious too, everything had escalated so fast. Now her father was dead. I hope it did not make me despicable because I still wanted her. Malaysia POV I didn't even want to make love at this point. I just wanted to talk to Jessi, and make sure we could fix this. We had been friends forever, and she was like the sister I never had. Jess and I did everything together so when I found out Brayden of all assholes was my mate, for a moment I thought it was the answer to my prayers. See, I thought I was a lesbian forever. I was always in love with Jess, but I wasn't ready to tell her because she was always drooling over Brayden, so I was hoping once Brayden told Jess maybe we could all share. Then one day, jokingly, I had said to her something along those lines, of course using the names of fake friends to test the scenario out, and she had quickly shot me down saying, "I would share every earthly possession I have but not my man," she had laughed, "sis better get her own." She of course did not see my disappointment, but my brother had snorted, "Nice try," he had laughed as he walked away smirking. It infuriated me that Kye had a shot at Jess now. Especially since he found out about me and Brayden. He hasn't looked at me the same. I felt like a slut around him, and he refused to have a decent conversation with me. I wasn't sure if I was more hurt about Jess or the fact that my brother thought I'd be cruel enough to sleep with my best friend's mate without good reason and I did have, that. Brayden was my other half, he was mine, period. Still, we both knew we could have handled the situation better. It took forever to fall asleep and when I did, it was not a peaceful sleep. I kept having nightmares about Mr. Martin grabbing Brayden, and punching him. Calling me a w***e, he was furious. And Evelyn had that look like she knew the entire time this would come about. I woke up to a shouting match between Jessica and Luna. "What the hell?" Brayden and I both went scrambling out of bed and rushed to the common area. We both froze when we saw Jess yelling with no fear at Luna, "Oh goddess she's gone bat s**t crazy," I whispered to Brayden. He stepped forward, "Okay, okay everyone calm down," Brayden said, "Calm down," Luna was furious. No one spoke out of terms to her. Luna stepped closely, "I don't know who you think you are, little girl, but I will break you. How dare you walk into my house making demands?" Luna's nostrils were flaring, she huffed, "I hope you don't think he will protect you," Jess glared back at her, she was not backing down, fear ran through my veins, she was going to get herself killed. 'Damnit Kye do something,' I mind-linked my brother. My wolf Cora was sensing my nervousness, and she was pacing. "I definitely need protection when I'm in a room full of ruthless killers!" Jessica spat out, "What happened to my father?" "Jess can explain," Brayden began, but before he could say another word, Jess slapped the s**t out of him, Kye grabbed her to pull her back. "HOW DARE YOU!" Luna raged in disbelief. As Brayden stood holding his face in shock. "I'll report you to the council," Jessica screamed at Luna, "You will not get away with murdering my parents!" She pointed a finger in Luna's face. Luna grabbed her wrist and bent it back and Jess screamed, "Don't even think about it," she hissed at us as she led Jess into her office, slamming the door. "Look here you little b***h! I have a particular dislike of humans. I was being nice since you lost your parents, but if you think you will come into my home and threaten my family, you have another thing coming!" We could hear the booming of her voice bouncing off the walls. There was mumbling back and forth, and then we heard Luna let out a horrific cry. Suddenly, the Luna came crashing through the door, landing on her behind, "Mom," Brayden went running toward his mom as Alpha came running into the room, "what's all the commotion!" From where Kye and I were, we could not see what was going on in that room. But I noticed Brayden and the alpha stared inside with a look of total disbelief. I had to see what was happening in there. Kye seemed to be thinking the same thing, because we both ran for the door at the same time, "Jess," I screamed as my eyes fell on her. "Holy f*****g s**t!" I heard Kye say. Right before a ball of fire came rolling in our direction. I felt Kye grab me and pull me out of harm's way. Jess, no it was not Jess! I was so confused, and frozen in fear. She walked out the room, her eyes focused on Brayden, "Did you kill my father?" An unfamiliar voice said, Brayden looked so confused, "Who are you?" He asked and he involuntarily shook his head no. "I am Nova and I will ask you one more time, did you kill my parents?" Her hair was on fire, her eyes a glowing red, it all made sense now. She would not bow to our alpha because he had no power over her. Jess had a freaking Dragon! "Jess," Brayden begged, "forgive me, he attacked me and-" "And you ripped his heart out?" Nova hissed, "Yes, I..." Brayden began but Nova began to sniff the air, "I smell a lie!" Nova turned and looked at Alpha, "it was you." Alpha Donald's wolf came forward, and the two glared at each other, "Your father disrespected his alpha and tried to kill the future Alpha of Blood Moon. I did what needed to be done." Alpha declared, Nova looked between the two men, "And Evelyn?" Evelyn had fought hard to protect her mate. Luna had been the one to slice her throat. Luna said nothing though, but it was as if Nova could sense what she deemed betrayal, "You tried to cover it up?" Nova hissed, "You know the punishment for killing an Alpha. Had he not been stopped he would still have met the same fate by the council!" Luna spat out, "Forgive me, Jess," Brayden said, Her eyes softened for a moment and turned back into those warm brown hues that we all knew and loved, tears rolled down her cheeks. "You were going to cover this up. You were going to let me believe my parents died in a car accident when, in truth my father died protecting my honor. After catching you with her," She pointed in my direction, never looking at me. Seemingly oblivious to the fact that nearly the entire pack had surrounded her, ready to defend their Alpha to the death. "Jess, I love you. I never meant to hurt you, we didn't mean to hurt you. Please calm down, let's talk about this. You have to forgive me," Brayden pleaded, She glared at him and her body began to shake, "Forgive you," Nova's voice screeched, "I forgive myself for loving you and thinking you were more than what you were, coward," The growls of the surrounding wolves finally caught her attention, "We can make this right!" Brayden yelled, "Yes, we can, an eye for an eye!" She said as she blew fire into Luna's face. Brayden had no choice but to jump away from his mom as she screamed, turning into an Inferno of fire and smoke and Alpha cried out, lunging at Nova who swiftly plunged her hand through his chest, "And a heart for a heart," she hissed, his ripping heart out, "No!" Brayden, cried out, as the wolves charged at Jess. They were out for blood, Kye grabbed me, dragging me out of the pack house as it went up in flames. The wolves charged Nova, and she blew fire at them, trying to protect herself. Kye carried me out kicking and screaming, "Brayden, Jess!" I screamed, fighting to get back in there. Eventually, wolves came running out. The fire was too intense. Our dad, the gamma, and the delta came out pulling Brayden. The pack house was engulfed in flames, "Mom, Dad!" Brayden cried and growled as the pack house burned. I could only look on because Jess did not come out. I ran to Brayden and we held each other as we cried, suddenly there was a loud crash, and we watched as a dragon emerged. Nova had completely shifted, and now she hovered over us as the wolves growled, jumping in an attempt to get at her. She was fearless as she said to Brayden, "Now we are even," she hissed, then flew away. Just like that, she was gone. I watched until she became a tiny speck in the sky. When I looked at Brayden I could see the fire in his eyes, this was not over. I looked at my brother and saw a combination of hurt and dismay, our love, Jess was gone.
