"I'm sorry Jessica, but Alpha Donald says no one can see them. I'm preparing them for cremation." "Cremation? The hell you are! My parents did not wish to be cremated." I growled, I was breathing heavily now because something in my spirit was telling me something was wrong here. The nurse stood her ground. Her eyes were hazy, and I knew she was most likely speaking to the Alpha, 'Jessica go home, you don't want to see your parents this way.' Alpha Donald, mind-linked me. 'Alpha I worked at the council, I have seen dead bodies. I want to see them, I have to.' I responded. 'Jessica, this is a direct order. Go home!' Alpha said firmly as the nurse glared at me. 'Tell me what happened I have to know,' I begged, 'A freak car accident,' he finally said, 'A car accident, my parents never leave the pack. Where were they going?' I asked, 'I don't know. Where were you last night? I sent Mitch to your house last night. You were not there,' he said to me. I paused. Had they gone in search of me? Was I the reason my parents were dead? 'You didn't ask permission to leave. Go home,' 'Yes Alpha, of course,' I blocked him out of my head and did what seemed to work. I looked the nurse in the eye and said, "Sorry," then just as I had done with Kye, I kicked her in the cooter. Yes, I did! I kicked the b***h in her girlie balls or whatever. I was determined to see my parents. The nurse must have thought I was giving up because, as soon as I apologized, her hard face had softened. So the kick caught her completely off guard. She let out a painful yelp and grabbed her cooter as she dropped to the floor. No time to waste, I grabbed the keys from her hand and walked in, locking the door behind me. My parents were both still on the table. I walked over to my father's lifeless body. I heard a wail bounce off the walls, but it was almost like it didn't come from me. Like I was having an out-of-body experience. I just kept rubbing his bruised face. "Daddy, what happened to you? Why did you leave me too," I cried, looking over at the other table. I could see that Evelyn was pretty bruised too. I lay my head on his chest and cried and that was when I noticed my hand seemed to sink into his chest. I lifted my head confused. Pulling the cover that was up to his neck, I screamed, "No no no no," I rushed over to Evelyn and pulled the cover back, and gasped. Her throat had been slit. "What in the hell?" I heard banging on the door as I looked from one body to the next. What happened here? This was not a car accident, someone murdered my parents. I was frozen, and almost like I was on autopilot, I pulled my phone from my pocket. It was on seven percent battery power. I took pictures of both bodies, and then I pulled the sheet back up, covering the wounds. I walked over to the door and opened it. There stood a highly pissed-off Kye. He was glaring at me like he wanted to rip me apart until he saw the fresh tears and my completely wrecked face. Instead, he wrapped his arms around me and I fell into his warm embrace and balled like a baby. I don't think I have cried like this since my mom died. Yeah, seeing Brayden and Malaysia together hurt, but if anyone has ever lost a parent, well it's a different kind of torture. I felt alone now, abandoned. Kye picked me up and carried me back to my house and to my room. He lay on the bed beside me. I snuggled in his arms. Where the hell were Brayden and Malaysia? Thinking about my parents was torture. I needed something to occupy my mind. So when Kye went to the bathroom, I sent a text to my brothers telling them our parents were dead. I also sent the text to Vladimir and told him that I was told they had been in a car accident and the alpha wanted them cremated. I let him know no one knew I had taken the pictures. Are you in danger? Vladimir responded. I had not thought about that. I responded that I didn't think so. I didn't even put my sneakers on. I instead grabbed my house shoes and headed toward the pack house. I didn't knock either, I just walked in. The smell of cleaning agents hit my nose immediately. I could hear movement, shuffling, and murmurs from the back, so I walked toward the sound. It was from the common area that you had to pass when going to the living quarters. Someone was patching a hole in the wall. I noticed all the pictures had been knocked down or broken. I walked past him, stepping around him and looking into the room. Luna and the beta's wife, who was also Evelyn's best friend, and Malaysia's mom, Doreen, were in a heated discussion. "This is ridiculous!" "Do you want the council sniffing around here?" Luna asked her. "No, but I hate lying." As they both were turning furniture that had flipped over upright. "What happened here?" I asked, bringing their attention to me. Both of them looked shocked to see me. Neither spoke as Malaysia came from the door on the opposite side of the room. That door led to the sleeping quarters. The Luna, alpha, and Brayden share the entire right side and the beta and other members have the left. I noticed Malaysia came from the right. I also noticed that Luna had bruises on her face and so did Malaysia's mom. Malaysia ran to me and wrapped her arms around me. "Oh, Jess, I was on my way over there to see you. I feel terrible about your parents." Her touch made me cringe. I didn't want her touching me. "Come on, let's go back to your house and talk." I stepped away from her, "Know I came to see Brayden." "Oh, this isn't a good time, honey," Luna said, "It's not a good time to see my mate? My parents died, and I have heard nothing from him, and it's not a good time?" I asked her, "Jess, maybe you should-" Malaysia began, but I turned and looked at her with an ice-cold glare. She knew then that she should stop while she was ahead. I ignored Luna and headed to Brayden's room. I heard her call my name but continued walking. I heard them following me as I briskly walked to his door and pushed it open. Brayden was standing in front of his closet in only his boxers. Normally, this would have made me drool, but I couldn't quit focusing on the bruises he was covered in, "What happened to you?" "Jess!" He looked surprised to see me. He grabbed a robe to cover himself, but it was too late. I stepped into the room, ignoring the sounds of the footsteps behind me. "What kind of mate does not go to his love in a time of grief?" "I was coming over. I just needed to get dressed." He said. I walked over and touched his face, "And to finish your makeup?" I asked, he started to say something but then closed his mouth. "JESSICA, I ASKED YOU TO STAY HOME!" Alpha Donald was pissed. I, however, ignored his voice because I noticed he had bruises. "Jessica," Brayden said, confused. "What!" I snapped, "My father just used his Alpha tone. You didn't flinch," Brayden pointed out. "Oh, I uh..." I didn't know what to say. I didn't have a wolf and there was no reason I should not have been affected. So I redirected, "What happened to you?" I asked again, He said nothing, he just stared at me like I was an alien-like everyone else. "Jessica, if you would be so kind as to follow me into my office," The Alpha said, he turned and walked off. I looked at Brayden as he grabbed a shirt and pulled it over his head. He yanked a pair of sweats off the hanger and slid them on as Kye appeared in the doorway. I saw them exchange words through mind-link, and then he wrapped his arm around my waist, leading me toward his father's office. Kye followed, since he was to be Beta, the three of us walked in and I sat down. Kye and Brayden stood. Luna came in, closing the door behind her. The Alpha stood behind his desk and by the window was Beta Mitch, Kye's dad. "Jessica, we are sorry about the loss of your father. He served this pack for years and was the best war general ever." Alpha began, I wanted to laugh because they had never been in combat. "Losing him and your mom," he paused, "is such a great loss." Tears rolled down my cheeks because, after seeing my dad now, I knew he was really gone. "Jessica, I do want to ask you something though," he said, "Your father uh, what was his origin?" Alpha asked, "His origin, I don't understand?" I frowned, "Well, he was so incredibly strong, almost like uh..." "An alpha," I finished his question. "Yes, I guess." He finally sighed, Our true origin was a secret. Had my father wanted the alpha to know, he would have told him. He looked at me and I shrugged, "He was a wolf alpha, just a very strong wolf." I lied, He looked unconvinced. They had ransacked my father's office looking for our family secrets. "Someone went through my father's things. His office was ransacked. Do you know anything about that Alpha?" I asked, feeling a squeeze on my shoulder, Kye was telling me to shut up. "No, but I will have Mitch look into it." He said, "That won't be necessary," I said, "how did the hole get in the wall and why was all the furniture flipped over. I asked," "Oh, there was a disagreement with one of the members and Brayden, no worries." He said, "You said my parents were in a car accident?" I asked, "Yes it was terrible," Luna spoke up, "Oh, where is the car? I have a few belongings I need to get from it." I said, "I will get them for you, Jess. You don't want to see that love?" Brayden said, Love, what... The entire time we dated he never used terms of endearment to me. Why was he laying it on thick now? "I think we should get you home," Brayden said, "Are we done here?" I asked. Alpha Donald and Mitch shared a look and he nodded. I stood up and walked over to the door, Kye reached around me to open it and Malaysia and her mom were standing outside hugging each other. I could tell they had both been crying. "I will stay the night with you," Brayden said. I saw Malaysia glance at him, "Yeah we will all stay with you, Jess." "No, I will stay alone. I don't want company." I said flatly, "Jess, you shouldn't be alone," Doreen said to me, I noticed the scratches on her arm. "I will not leave your side. I know this is difficult." Brayden kissed my head and I stiffened. Pulling away from him, I snapped, "I want to be alone!" "But Jess your parents," Malaysia said, Again I glared at her. They were going to do this, act like nothing happened. Images of them going at it flooded my mind. I turned and walked away from them all. I felt like there was no one I could trust. "My brothers will be here soon. I will not be alone." "You called your brothers?" Brayden asked, "Why would I not?" I looked back at him. Why did he look nervous? "Well, I'm coming whether you like it or not. You need friends around you." Malaysia said, "Exactly, which is why I chose to be alone," I snapped, Malaysia looked at Brayden, "Jess what's up? You're being weird." "No, I am not. I want to grieve Malaysia. If you were there, I'd be more focused on the fact that my best friend is f*****g my mate and smiling in my face like nothing has happened than my dead parents." I spat out. Malaysia inhaled sharply, and Brayden's mouth fell open. Now everyone was on the same page. Now that it was in the open, I had another issue. Had Brayden killed my dad?
