MOST OF THE METROPOLITAN areas of the nation had returned to a semi-natural state by March 15, 2020, with the people from these areas either dying or moving from the city and with a slight increase in rural population as a result. The current population of the states was about 175 million people, and small communities were starting to become viable in the countryside, using old and dependable technology and animals to harvest the necessities from the earth.
The past winter had been extraordinarily harsh, and the spring rain situation around the country was shaping up to be most unhelpful.
