Chapter 1
*DYLAN*
I wake up at the sound of my alarm. I get up from bed and give a little stretch and let out a small yawn. I walk to the bathroom and take a shower, a cold one. The heater most have been cut off, again, with that thought I make a mental check to remember to call the land loner. Stepping out of the shower and wrap a towel around my wet body. I dress in light blue shorts, a white crop top, and my grey convers. I look at myself in the mirror, to do my makeup. I’m not really in a mood, so I apply little to none makeup. I put some mascara that make my crystal blue eyes sparkle, and a red lip gloss. I put my black hair into two loose braids. I fake a small smile in the mirror and roll my eyes, I can’t even fake a smile. Not going to lie it is kind of hard to fake a smile when everything in your life is nothing. I let out a breath and walk out to the kitchen, I grab an apple from the table, knowing that there is no food on the fridge. I walk to my car and get in, and I drive right into my nightmare.
Once I enter the bar most heads turn into my direction and whistles are heard, but I ignored them. I have been told that I’m gorgeous, but I guess that I don’t see it. I’m pretty I know that but gorgeous is not a word I would us for myself. My best friend Aaron waves at me, and I walk to him. “Honey tonight stay on this side of the bar. There are way too many pigs here” He said, and I can’t help but let out a small chuckle. His white platinum hair is in a night bun and his honey eyes grazes the bar, to take in the man on the far-left corner. He nods his head to the man’s direction, and I nod my head in agreement. He was handsome, nice skin, dark brown hair, and blue eyes. But he was not really my type, so I let Aaron put his claws all over him. I tie my hair in a high ponytail and smile at the girl that just walked up to the bar. “What can I get you?” I asked the girl.
As the hours pass, I get more tiered. Tiered of this work, the thirty looks I get from men, the dirty looks I get from the women, and the ever-lasting cat calling names. A guy walks to the bar and flashes me a crooked smile, he is for sure drunk. “Can I get a net whisky, kitten?” He asked and I mentally rolled my eyes at the guy. I not to his direction and turn around to make his drink. As I finish making the guy’s drink, I slid it to him, and he smiles once again at me. He finished his drink in less than two seconds and as I’m drying off the bar, he grabs onto my arm.
“Let go of my arm” I growled at him, but he tightens his grip around my arm.
“How about we get out of here?” He asked with a smirk on his face.
“And how about you let go of my friends’ arm, before I kill you with my bare hands?” He hummed and the guy lets go of my arm letting out a curse under his breath. I turn around and hug Aaron tightly and let out shaky breath.
“Thanks” I say
“Try not to attend any drinks from any guy. Okay?” Aaron said and I nodded.
Something that I love from Aaron is that even though he is gay, if he needs to protect me, he will. He will break any guys neck if they ever disrespect me or hurt me. So even if he is a little you know, he can flick a switch inside of him and in an instant, he can become like a strong straight man, that will protect his friend at any coast. I could not ask for a better best friend. He has been with me since university. He has always been there for me for everything. When I do not have anything to eat, he will always drag me into his house so that I could have a plate in my hand to eat. Sometimes when I do not have the money for rent, he gives me a small amount of money. And other times he offers me to come live with him, but I always decline. He has done so much, that moving in with him will be just the tip of the ice burgee. I can’t let him keep on helping me without receiving something in return. That is just not me, and that was not how I was raised. If you receive something you have to give it back, even if the person is not wanting anything in return.
After a very long, very tiering shift, I finally leave that stupid bar. I get in my car and start driving to my small apartment. I stop at a red light, and my phone buzzes. I pick it up and see a message from Aaron, saying that he scored with the man from the bar and that he was taking him to his house. I smile at his message and type in a response. As I am about to send the message a horn from behind sounds and I look up and notice that the light was green. I place my phone on the passenger’s sit and hit the gas. I take a left turn and out of nowhere comes a kid in a bicycle, he shouts at me, and I only shake my head, kids should be more aware of their surroundings. I let out a breath and dive into the passengers sit to look from y phone, the one that flew when I stopped so abruptly when the kid came out of nowhere. As I come up from fishing my phone, I send my message and once I looked up a truck horn sounded, and I saw two big lights ahead of me.
I cough as I open my eyes slowly. Flames, smoke, crystal, there were so many things happening around me that I could not focus. As I’m feeling dizzy, I feel my phone in my hand and I press the bottom to call Aaron. A light flashes a head of me and almost blinds me. I move my left arm to cover the light, but I cannot feel my left arm at all. I take a breath and try not to panic too much. I feel like I’m coming and going. I can hear different voices all around me, but I can’t make any of them, nor what they are saying. But one particular voice brings me back.
“For the love of God D, talk to me. I can hear sirens. What happened? Dylan? DYLAN? Dylan talk to me!” I hear Aaron’s voice from my phone, but I can’t utter a single word.
“A-Aaron?” I say with a cough and with that I black out. I hear voices yelling and, I fell as a light flash over me and soon I can feel my body being lifted and placed in like a bed. I know a person is talking
“Ma’am can you hear me?”
“We need to get this girl in emergency right now, I can’t feel her vitals”
As I hear all the voices around me, I hum, not being able to mutter a word out and hopefully that will help the paramedic know that I am still alive. But I still do not make out what he is saying. Is this how I am going to die? In a car accident? How cliché of me.
