Chapter 9

*DYLAN*

As we eat breakfast that me and Camila, everything is going normally until Leonardo clears out his throat and speaks up. “The annual mafia ball while be un a few days. And this year you will all be presented to the world” Leonardo said, and Ares and Athena clap their hands together in unison.

“Yes! I have been dying for the world to know that one of the assassin twins is a girl” Athena said with excitement and we all let out a chuckle.

“Do I need to attend?” I asked hoping that the answer is the one I’m looking for.

“Of course, you do. You are my adoptive daughter, and every member of the family will be there” Leonardo said, and I let out a frustrated sigh as I let my head fall back.

After breakfast me and the girls went out shopping for a dress for the gala. Ophelia made us stop at almost every store that caught her eye. At the end of the day Ophelia ended up with about fifteen shopping bags, Athena had about five bags, while I had only two bags. I don’t like to spend their money, but they always win that argument and they ended up buying my dress and shoes.

“You ready Dylan?” Aaron asked as he softly knocked on my bedroom door and popped his head inside a little bit.

“How do I look?” I asked as I turned around to face him and I see him with his mouth wide open and his eyes shine at me. I’m wearing a baby blue sparkly tight dress, silver accessories and heels. My black hair is in curls that shower down my back.

“I swear that if I wasn’t gay, I will totally f**k you.”

“I tried but she didn’t let me” Jasper said as he walked into to room and I stuck my tongue out to him and roll me eyes, while Aaron groan at his brother’s comment. “Mom and dad said that we should get going” Jasper said, and I nod my head and the three of us walk out of my room.

We get there not long after and after being patted down for any weapons we mingle. The twins took off in one direction, Camila and Leonardo in another, and Jasper in another one, then Ophelia left us too. Suddenly it was me and Aaron all alone in a sea of people that we did not know. We talk for a few minutes with each other, but he was soon called by Jasper and he had to leave me alone. I decided to get to know people and I met this lovely couple and started talking with them. I’m talking to the lovely couple when I’m suddenly yanked away from them and into a hard chest. I let out a surprised gasp by the impact, but then I let out another one when I look up and met a pair of honey eyes. The same honey eyes that have been hunting my dreams day and night. The honey eyes that belong to the one and only Dr. Enzo Romano. I smile at him as my eyes shine, but my eyes only met with the dangerously dark ones of Enzo.

“What the hell are you doing here Dylan?” Enzo whispered growled into my ear. He is really pissed that I’m here.

“I could ask you the same thing Dr. Enzo Romano” I whisper back with a wink as he turns me around.

“This is not a game Dylan; this room is full of dangerous people” He says after the spin and I’m pushed into his chest.

“And who says I’m not one of them?” I say as I lift my eyes to meet his.

“Who brought you here? Was it that boyfriend of yours?” He said in a lower voice and for a second I saw his eyes darken.

“Jealous, now are we?” I say in a giggle and I feel his chest rumble.

“Am not Dylan. I’m just looking out for you” He growled out to me.

“Who said I can’t defend myself?” I says as I furrow my eyebrows together.

“So, I wasn’t wrong” He said with a smirk on his face.

“Wrong about what?” I asked with a confused face.

“About whom you really are Dylan. Well, if Dylan is your real name that is” Enzo said, and I froze with his words. s**t this is not good. “Where do you think you are going?” Was the last thing I heard from him before I left him and walked away from him.

I make my way through the crowed and after a few minutes of looking I finally spot Aaron’s blond platinum hair. “We have to get out of here” I whisper to Aaron as I pull his arm and away from the couple he was just talking.

“What? Why?” He asked with a confused face.

“Enzo is here!” I whisper yell at him.

“Enzo?” Aaron asked and I face palm myself.

“Dr. Enzo Romano you i***t!” I tell him.

“What the hell is he doing here?” Aaron asked with a repulsed look on his face.

“I’m asking myself the same question. Either way we need to get out of here” I say as I pull his arm, but he doesn’t move.

“Sure, but first we need to grab Jasper” Aaron said as he started walking.

“What for?” I asked.

“Well, I’m pretty sure your dear old doctor/mafia leader is jealous of him and won’t think twice before killing him off” Aaron said as he rolled his eyes at the idea of saving his older brother.

“Aw, you do care for him” I say in a sweet tone as I let out a small giggle.

“No. I still despise him, but that does not mean I want him dead” Aaron said, and I try very hard not to laugh, he does care.

“Okay then let’s go” I say.

After looking for everywhere for Jasper, we practically gave up. We decided to go and ask his parents if they had seen them. We walk through the crowed until we saw Camila and Leonardo, talking to a couple. We wave to them, until we got their attention and they excused themselves from the conversation they were having and walk towards us.

“Anything wrong?” Camila asked eyeing the both of us

“Have you guys seen Jasper?” I asked.

“He is doing some business outside in the garden, why is something wrong?” Leonardo answered and I let a breath that I didn’t even notice I was holding.

“Leonardo!” A voice from the crowed called and we all looked at the direction from where the voice came. My heart stopped right there, and I draw in a breath.

“Lorenzo! This are two of my other kids” Leonardo said with proudness in his voice.

“Lorenzo?” Me and Aaron said at the same time.

“She is your daughter?” Lorenzo said with a confused expression on her face.

“You two now each other?” Leonardo asked as he looked between me and Lorenzo.

“No. We just danced together” I said before Lorenzo could open his big mouth.

“Well, I think it’s time for you two to formally meet, Dylan this is Lorenzo Romano De la Cruz, leader of the Black Cobras mafia” Leonardo said and then continued. “Lorenzo this is my adoptive daughter Dylan Black” Leonardo finish. Lorenzo extends his hand for me to shake, I eye his hand for a few seconds before hesitantly shaking it.

“It’s lovely to meet you Dylan Black” Lorenzo said as he plants a kiss on my hand, I can’t forma any words so I only nod in his direction. “But I’m confused, you said that she is your adoptive daughter, yet you don’t have the same last name?” Lorenzo asked looking at me and then at Leonardo.

“We didn’t adopt her legally, but we did adopt her with our hearts. She is part of the King family even though she doesn’t have the name.” Leonardo said with anger evident in his voice. He never liked when people asked or questioned him about how we were related or why I didn’t have his name if I was his daughter. Truth is I’m obviously not blood related, but heart related. The King family took me in when I left my home and helped me get on my feet.

“I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just curious, that is all” Lorenzo said and then he smirked and continued talking. “So, your real name is Dylan King?” Lorenzo asked.

“Something like that” I said with a shrug.

“Then what is your real name?” Lorenzo asked and everyone stiffen at the question of my real name.

“None of your damn business” I spat at him as I crossed my arms around my chest and glared at him.

“Just trying to figure you out, that’s all” Lorenzo said a shrug and a little chuckle.

“Yeah, well we don’t talk about Dylan’s past, so stop asking unless you want a dagger thrown at you” Athena suddenly said with a devilish smile on her face as she walked towards us. Lorenzo let out an awkward chuckle as he raised his arms in surrender.

“I think it’s time for Lorenzo to get going” Jasper said as he patted the back of Lorenzo which earned a growl from him.

“See you around King family and Dylan” Lorenzo said with a quick nod and walked away from us and then he was suddenly disappeared around the big crowed.
