People killed people all the time and so did the Vampires kill amongst themselves. Why did they have to hate each other and treat each other so badly? Samantha might not have had a great history with them but, that didn't mean she didn't know when something was wrong.
"Captain there's something wrong with this crime scene."
"Well Detective there's alot wrong with a human becoming a meal" The Captain turned on Samantha. She had used her title not out of mutual respect. No, this had been a threat against her new promotion.
" The criminal made things way to neat Captain. It reminded me of the staged scenes they used to train us with. They trying to send us a message."
"And what message are we going to send back?" The Captain asked as she started to like this girl for not backing away.
We have to get Vincent and a few others.
"If Vincent has the same idea as we do then this is a setup for sure." Damien said just before they got to the cabin she had already come to love going to. The garden was planned but wild in places. They had respect for the land they built on. It was a value her own grandmother had installed in her from a young age. Samantha had a herb garden that grew from stems that looked like trees. She had cared for and tended to it since she had been ten years old.
"So your Captain is a real peach." Damien said in an attempt to go back to the ice cold reputation he had meticulously worked on exuding for years. There was no way he would ever be anything but emotionless and uncaring. He had been watching Samantha as she worked and he found himself completely mesmerised. You could see the shift in her attitude as she had approached the crime scene. Most people in her line of work were as uncaring as he wished he could be. In Samantha's eyes he had seen sadness and compassion for the victim. Her heartbeat and colour change in her eyes couldn't be controlled and was genuine. She was impossible to ignore.
Not just for how amazingly gorgeous she was and man, was she ever easy on the eyes but, her soul had a beauty that not even a natural reaction to years on the job could break. Samantha turned to him making him stop walking to face her.
"It wasn't right the way she spoke to you"Samantha said with the same anger he would have expected from one of his own.
"Why so angry Detective? Isn't she just saying what you think of me as well?" Damien said with a smile that had distracted many, many women to see things his way.
"No it isn't at all. Look Damien the thing is , I just haven't met one of you who wasn't a complete crazy, master of manipulation out for themselves. I don't like being controlled or used by anybody, dead or alive."Samantha said and leaned in to make her point. She looked into his eyes and she could have sworn she had seen...hurt?
"Well you fragile fast foods aren't a theme park amount of fun either. So no human is crazy or out for themselves? Just us horrid, savage Vampires who all just eat and run, right?" Damien almost snarled as he came closer too. They both stopped and just looked at each other. They were angry on behalf of their entire race and neither had some anything to deserve it. It was easier than to try and figure out this strange pull they had between them.
Samantha pulled back and didn't care if it made her look weak. She tried to fight the wave of emotions as her mind took her straight back to high school. She had fallen deeply in love with a Vampire and in the time that they still hunted Humans. She had fought to be with him and he had taken her away from her family, and then abandoned her. She had been alone and miserable without any support or even a friend nearby. Kyle had been so sweet and caring. He had noticed her when most other boys hadn't.
He had been something right out of all the romance novels she had read at breakneck speed over the years. Handsome and popular, rich and kind. She had found a deep and forever kind of love. Soon she had found his violent temper as well. She was trapped with someone who would explode when his phone's battery died or he couldn't find the remote. The beat part was that it had taken her years to see it for what it was.
Her stomach still churns when she thinks back to how she defended him when he had been abusive. Why didn't she take it seriously just because he never hit her? Mental and phycologically abusive were so sneaky that you called it things like love and protectiveness.
Damien might be the best looking man she had ever seen but, she would never make the mistake of giving a beast a chance to hurt her again. Samantha jumped when she felt his hand against her cheek. She touched her face and realised that tears were falling down her face. She wasn't sure what disturbed her most. The fact that she had been crying or, that Damien immediately reached out to comfort her. He was just as smooth as Kyle had been and that made her turn away from Damien in anger.
