Strange Scene

The man laughed and they all joined in. "Don't worry child I came up with the name myself. I knew your father, he was a great man and he changed me from a wannabe gangster teen to a collage graduate." Shadow said with a brilliant smile. "We would love it if you could stay for dinner." The smile dies on everyone's lips and an intense look shines in their eyes. Gabriela moves forward and grabbes Samantha by the shoulders. Samantha closes her eyes and braces for the worst. All the training and advise from her dad had done nothing to prepare her for not using her head. Being led to a place she was outnumbered one to twenty eight. 'This is it' Samantha thought. 'Not stopping a criminal, not saving a life. No I'm about to meet my death to be some meal.' A roar of laughter erupted and Samantha opened her eyes and blinked. "Sorry Samantha we couldn't resist." Vincent said as he came closer to check on her. "We eat normal stuff and only need like a hundred mililitres a month to stay alive. Sun doesn't melt us but being pale it hurts like a son of a bitch." Samantha laughed with but she just couldn't shake the fact that had that been a real threat, she would have met a terrible end. Damien stood with his shoulder against a nearby doorway. He hasn't even cracked a smile and looked bothered by the fear she had shown. If she didn't know his type so well then she might have mistaken his reaction for concern. Samantha was grateful the radio on her side went off. It seemed that the killer had struck in a nearby village. The murder seemed like the cases her dad had been on years ago. There was a gang of Vampires years back, who had taken great pleasure in torturing their victims in the worst way they could think of. Her dad had started to drink for the first time in his life trying day and night to catch them. He had been just the same but his heart hadn't coped too well. Samantha had been away at Police academy when she had gotten the call. She had wanted to leave and go to his side but he had sent an order to keep her there. She didn't obey and had gotten to the hospital just in time for him to laugh at her insolence one last time. "You never did learn to listen did you Sammy girl? Good I love that about you...I love you." "I love you too dad." And with that he had closed his eyes for the last time. He could have been saved if only he had been a Vampire. Back then it had been different. Being one of them had meant that you were the lowest of low. The worst of the Humans hadn't compared to being as bad as a typical Vampire. He had gladly waited to die knowing he would die an honrable Human. Now less than five year later she was haunted by the fact that he could have been at her side. He had met his end because of a stupid moral dilemma that didn't even exist. Samantha cleared her head as she approached the crime scene. The red and blue lights were hard to miss as they lit up the night sky. "Three females were in that car. Two are present but the third I can't track" Damian said and Samantha jumped. Used to working alone since her partner got injured, she had forgotten Damian was next to her. "It's almost like my new partner is from the K-9 Unit"Samantha snapped back to hide the fact that she had been scared for the second time in one night. "Careful I don't bite" Damien replied knowing that would get to her more than being defensive, it had the desired effect. "Look since you people are such heroes go figure this out with me would you? I don't have time for your childishness. Aren't you like five hundred or something, act like it" Samantha finished and left the car before he could answer. This was why he hated these demanding Human brats. Weak and lazy they should be serving his kind not bossing him about. The scene caused Samantha to stop a moment. The murder felt wrong and unnatural to say the least. It looked right and in fact that was the problem. It all looked a little to much like a training exercise. The body looked carefully placed to show the massive tears in the victim's neck. It looked like a typical Vampire attack but then why did she have bruised hands and ankles? The bite rendered a person paralised for at least two minutes. There just wasn't a reason to restrain the victim. "Looks like this might not have been one of us then" Damien said almost echoing her thoughts. For some reason this annoyed her more than it should. She wondered if her reaction would be the same towards a Human. The only thought in her head was that she had never met a more infuriating, sarcastic and yummy person in her life. He may be easy on th eyes but hard on the patience. He wasn't your normal hottie either. He had a look that seemed a mixture of boy band member and century old oil painting subject. One thing all the stories had been right about. The Police Chief was not impressed at this guy having another victim to his already long list. Samantha at least enjoyed that the Captain seemed to dislike Damien as much as she did. She gave him a look like he was a particularly foul diaper. "I don't care what it takes to catch this bastard. This isn't doing much for keeping the peace between us and them" The Captain motioned to Damien who winked at the Captain. "Listen pretty boy we got over the seething Vampire years ago. We don't take it from Human men so shape up and pull your socks up little bat" The Captain snarled at Damien. He tried to smile but couldn't hide a hard, nervous gulp. As much as it should make Samantha smile, it made her furious.
