CHAPTER I:A NEW BEGINNING

1119 Words
Jenny Thompson got nervous as she walked up to the fancy doors of Smith Enterprises on her very first day of work. This was her chance to work at one of the biggest companies in the city. As a fresh college graduate, getting the job as an assistant was a big deal for her. Jenny had big dreams of climbing the corporate ladder and making a name for herself in the business world. But she knew it wouldn't be easy at Smith Enterprises. The boss, Robert Smith, was known for being really tough and not putting up with any mistakes. He built the company from scratch and now, in his 50s, he expects everyone to be perfect and work very hard. Jenny wanted to prove herself, but she couldn't help feeling a little scared about working under Robert's watchful eye. She took a deep breath and told herself that this was her time to shine. Jenny walked into the lobby with as much confidence as she could muster. Her heels made a loud clacking sound as she walked towards the reception desk. "Good morning! Welcome to Smith Enterprises. How can I help you?" the nice older lady at the desk asked. "Hi, I'm Jenny Thompson, the new executive assistant," Jenny replied. "Oh, of course! We're so excited to have you. Go up to the 50th floor and ask for Lisa. She's Robert Smith's secretary and she'll help you get settled in." Jenny thanked her and made her way towards the elevators. When the doors opened on the 50th floor, she saw big windows with a view of the city. It was time to prove that she could handle this important job. Jenny walked down the hallway and her footsteps made a cool sound on the marble floor. She looked at the decorations, modern furniture, and cool artwork on the walls. As she was getting close to the CEO's office, she told herself to be confident because this job was hers and she would do great. "Good morning, you must be Jenny!" a friendly voice said. Jenny saw a nice lady smiling at her. "I'm Lisa, Mr. Smith's secretary." Jenny shook her hand and said, "It's nice to meet you." Lisa said, "We're happy to have you here! Let me show you around and take you to your desk." Jenny followed Lisa through the organized office area. Everything looked fancy and sophisticated. While they walked, Lisa gave Jenny advice about the boss's schedule and what he likes and doesn't like. Jenny tried to remember it all. "This is your desk," Lisa said, pointing to the spot. Jenny was amazed by the big desk and the beautiful view of the city from the window. It was real - she had an office in one of the most famous companies in the world. Lisa told her that Mr. Smith was still in a meeting but would be done soon. She promised to come get Jenny when it was time for the introduction. Jenny thanked her and sat down at the desk, trying her best to stay calm. She wanted to make a good first impression on the CEO. After about twenty minutes, Lisa returned. "Okay, let's go! Don't be scared. I'm sure he'll like you." Jenny took a deep breath and followed Lisa through the double doors into Robert Smith's office. As Jenny stepped into Robert Smith's office, she felt that her feet were stuck to the floor. There he is, the CEO sitting at his desk, wearing a custom made suit. His looks conveyed an aura of authority. Robert looked up from the report he was reading. "Ah Lisa, I see you've brought our new assistant. Welcome." His voice was strong and authoritative. Lisa gestured to Jenny. "Mr. Smith, this is Jenny Thompson, your new executive assistant. Jenny started to get nervous as she stepped forward, hoping that no one could tell. "It's an honor to meet you, Mr. Smith," she said with faint smile. "I'm really happy to have the chance to work for you and this organization." Robert looked at her and gave a nod of approval. "I've heard some amazing things about you, Jenny. You've been highly recommended." Jenny felt confident and replied, "Thank you, sir. I'm dedicated and ready to make sure everything runs smoothly." Robert seemed pleased and said, "That's exactly what I like to hear. At Smith Enterprises, we expect excellence and accuracy." He walked towards Jenny with a strong presence. "I need my assistant to be sharp, productive and always ready. I work fast, so you'll be with me every day, helping with meetings, calls, messages, and more. No time to play around, you either succeed or fail." Jenny stood her ground and said, "I completely understand, Mr. Smith. I'll do my best, learn quickly, and won't let you down." Robert seemed satisfied and shook her hand. "Good. I have high expectations for you, Jenny." Jenny felt confident and replied, "Thank you for this opportunity, sir." Robert smiled a little and said, "Very good. Lisa, show Jenny around and help her get familiar with her role. I have a board call soon, and we'll talk about it later, Jenny." Jenny felt happy as she left the room. Her first meeting with Robert Smith had gone better than she expected. She eagerly embraced her new role, handling all the tasks Robert gave her with excitement. She worked long hours, assisting with proposals, preparing presentations, organizing meetings, and accompanying Robert to important customer meetings. Robert was always serious and focused, but he couldn't help but be impressed by Jenny's skills and confidence. They had been working really hard on a big project, on workdays that lasted 16 hours! Finally, Robert praised Jenny for her amazing work. He said, "Wow, you did an awesome job! You're really passionate about this." Jenny felt really proud and wanted Robert to like her, so his compliments made her even more motivated. One night, while they were finishing up some work late in the evening, they started chatting casually. Jenny realized that behind Robert's boss-like personality, he had a lot of responsibilities holding him down. She felt a connection to his true self. Little by little, Jenny became Robert's most trusted partner. He even asked her to join important meetings with him. Jenny saw this as a way to move up in her career. But as time went on, she couldn't ignore the feelings that were growing inside her. The line between work and personal feelings was getting blurry. Jenny knew she had to hide her emotions because her job was on the line. However, the way Robert looked at her made her think that he felt the same way too.
