CHAPTER III: FORBIDDEN ATTRACTION

1229 Words
Two weeks later, Jenny was sitting in front of her computer trying to concentrate. But her mind kept going back to what happened last night with Robert. It was intense and passionate, and she couldn’t stop thinking about it. She knew it was risky to have romantic feelings for her boss, but when they were alone in his office late at night, all the rules and ethics seemed to disappear. They had crossed a line both physically and emotionally, and there was no going back. Jenny felt a mix of shame and excitement about their secret attraction. She had seen a different side of Robert, and she wanted more. While going through her work schedule, Jenny started thinking about how she could spend a more private time with Robert. Just then, her phone rang. It was Robert, sounding all professional. He wanted to discuss the plans for the shareholder meeting tomorrow. Jenny tried to sound calm and not too eager as she agreed to meet him in his office. Before going in, she quickly checked her reflection in the mirror, wanting to look her best for any stolen moments. Robert sat behind his big desk, looking fancy as usual. Jenny thought he looked good in his suit. He looked up and smiled at her. "Close the door and take a seat," he told her. Jenny became scared because she was alone with him again. She sat on the edge of the fancy chair trying to act cool. Robert went over the plan for their meeting, which was all serious business. However, his eyes had a sparkle that made Jenny think he had something more personal on his mind. "Can you review the presentation one last time before the shareholder meeting at 10 pm?" Robert asked, not taking his eyes off her. "Sure, 10 pm works perfectly," she said, trying to sound calm even though she was super excited. The day went on as Jenny couldn’t wait for their private time. Finally, after everyone else had left, she locked up Robert’s office and went back in, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. Robert was waiting for her, his tie a little loose. Without saying a word, he pulled her close, and all the self-control they had been holding onto for weeks disappeared. Jenny melted into his arms, craving his touch. That night, on top of Robert’s desk, their love was slow and sweet, no longer rushed. "I've never wanted anyone the way I want you," Robert whispered against her neck. Jenny knew at that moment that there was no going back. For a few weeks, Jenny and Robert kept their secret romance going late at night in his office. They were careful not to let anyone know, always communicating in secret and never being seen together. But they could not resist taking more risks, stealing kisses and hugs even when others were around during the workday. One evening, after a passionate encounter, Robert surprises Jenny by confessing that he wants to leave his wife and be with her. Jenny was excited but also worried about what would happen to Robert’s family and reputation if their affair were discovered. She noticed that Robert’s wife was calling him a lot and seemed like upset. Jenny started to question if it was right for her to be the reason a family might break apart. Finally, Jenny made up her mind and went to talk to Robert in his office one night. She told him that they needed to end their relationship because his family should come first. Robert was shocked and upset that Jenny was ending things just when they had a chance to be together openly. Jenny stayed strong and reminded him about his children and the damage they could cause to the company if their affair was exposed. Robert warned Jenny not to expect him to forget this betrayal as she walked away with tears in her eyes. These weeks were tough for Jenny as she tried healing her broken heart, and Robert had been ignoring her at work. But eventually, people stopped talking about their affair, and it became a thing of the past. One night, Jenny was working all by herself when suddenly, there was a knock on the door. It was Robert, and he looked sorry for something. He admitted, in a quiet voice, that Jenny was right about something, even though he did not want to admit it. He realised that he was letting his strong feelings get in the way of making good decisions. Jenny nodded, feeling sad because she wished she could go back in time to when they were happy together. But deep down, they both knew that it was better to make responsible choices. Therefore, Jenny and Robert started working together again, but this time, they were more professional. Even though they still felt a spark between them when they were close, they did not act on those feelings. Robert decided to focus on fixing his marriage, while Jenny put all her energy into doing well at her job. She took on more responsibilities and felt proud when Robert praised her for doing a great job. When Jenny was getting ready for an important presentation, Robert showed up at her office with food from their favourite café. He thought Jenny could use some energy, so he brought her dinner. They ate together like old friends, but there was something more going on between them. They would exchange secret glances, and there was a strong feeling in the air that they could not quite reach. One time, when Robert tried to wipe some sauce off Jenny’s lip, it sent a shiver down her spine. After that night, getting takeout together became a regular thing whenever they worked late. They started talking about more personal stuff, such as their families and friends. When Robert came in the evening, he seemed different. He told Jenny while they were eating sesame noodles that his dad had cancer. Jenny reached out and held his hand to comfort him as he shared his worries. Without thinking, Jenny got up from her desk and gave Robert a reassuring hug as he tried to calm down. When they pulled away, they looked into each other’s eyes and felt old feelings come back. They hugged again, feeling both sad about what they had lost and grateful for this moment. As their hug got deeper, Jenny hesitantly let go. "We shouldn't," she whispered. Robert sadly nodded, feeling the weight of the moment between them. "I should go," Robert said with a shaky voice, holding back tears. He packed up the food containers and headed towards the door, but then turned back. "Thank you for understanding me like no one else does," he said sincerely. Jenny’s heart hurt as she heard goodbye in his words. After Robert left, Jenny sat under the bright lights, lost in thought. Their lives had gone in different directions, but she would always treasure the strong connexion they had for that short time and the lessons it taught her about love, doing the right thing, and making sacrifices. She hoped that somehow, someday, their souls would find each other again without any obligations or responsibilities. With a mix of sadness and happiness, she packed up her belongings and turned off the light, leaving the memories in the darkness.
