CHAPTER 2

HAZEL'S POV

Today was Saturday and it was almost 2pm.I sat on my king-sized bed as the usual sun rays of autumn were reflected by the glass walls into my room.

I tried going over a few documents before my sister and Axel's arrival to take me out for a horse ride as agreed.

This morning we went shopping and came home by 12pm.Then we decided to take an hour for ourselves before finally leaving, so here I was waiting for them.

My mind wondered about dad's surprise yesterday.He introduced me as the new CEO of “Danielson's Technology".I was expecting him to do it next week, but having that contract just made him so proud that he couldn't wait any longer.

I felt so happy remembering dad's smile when he came from the airport to congratulate me.

Next week I was going to be officially taking over the company and changing my office.I couldn't wait because there were many things I planned to do once I was CEO.

I glanced at the door once again, wondering when Laurel and Axel were coming.

I have been so busy that I did not understand that Axel needed me.I realized that today when we couldn't stop arguing over laurel's clothes.

I felt a bit guilty for neglecting him, then I decided to make it up to him.

Finally, for what seemed like forever, I heard a knock at the door:

“Haze are you ready?," my sister's voice came through the door.

“A minute please", closing my laptop, I ran to the door and opened to find both Axel and Laurel standing.

They both wore the perfect outfit for a horse ride.

“You guys can enter.Let me just wear my boots."

They looked at each other

“What have you been doing, if you are still not ready?" Laurel asked, frowning.

Ignoring her,I turned and headed for the dressing room.

They both entered and sat on the carpets as I searched through my huge dressing room for the perfect shoes.

Looking through the newly bought shoes, I found black boots that matched perfectly with my jeans and black top.Tying my hair in a pony tail,I wore my boots and came back to find them playing with each other as kids.

“OK guys, let's go"I said, as they both stopped to look at me.

“We thought you were still getting ready"Laurel murmured.

“And I thought women needed hours to be ready" Axel said, smirking.

“As you can see,I am ready so let's go.Except if you want me to change my mind and go back to the office to work"I smirked back.

They looked at each other funnily,then both scurried out while I followed them.

I knew that no reason would stop my sister from seeing her horse‘ilia' today.

I have always hated parties. It's not that I hated attention, but the noise pissed me off.Usually. That made me grow and I learned new things.

I started riding horses when I turned 10.I took part in a few races where I won medals, horse riding became a part of me.

As time passed,I understood it wasn't just about medals.It was more about the kind of freedom I felt every time I was on a horse.

We walked through the luxurious corridors of our mansion and finally came downstairs into the sitting room.

Mom was in the kitchen and dad was having a meeting in his office.

“Mom, we are off to the stables" Laurel shouted.

She came out with a large smile and walked to us:

“The lord protect you my babies"she whispered, giving each of us a peck.

Today laurel was less talkative. I wondered why;

“What is wrong with Lore? Why are you so calm?"I asked, staring at her worriedly.

She smiled weakly “Am OK Haze."

Something was definitely wrong, but I wasn't going to push her till she decided to confide in me.

We used her car and as we left I could see dad waving at us.“

He must have finished his meeting"I thought to myself.

Glancing out through the windows,I observed our house and its environment as I rarely had the opportunity to do so.

I took in how large our estate was.

Fifteen minutes later, we reached the stables. Our vet ‘stan' welcomed us with a large smile as usual.

Giving us a few instructions, he left to feed the other horses.

Excitedly, Laurel took off with her horse ‘Ilia' while we strolled behind on our horses in silence.

“So how do you feel as the new CEO?"he asked, breaking the silence.

“Great.I realized it's a lot of work but I can do it"I answered casually.

“Yeah it's a lot of work for you, Hazel.Why can't you accept it?If I marry you I'll be able to take care of you, Haze.You are so busy and I really miss you.Sometimes its hard to talk to you without a call interrupting us.How will it be this time since you are CEO?"I frowned hearing his question.Was he serious ?

There was silence

“I am sorry.I'll try this time around to be there for you"I answered, ignoring the outrageous proposal.

He nodded.

We continued in silence.

The surroundings were so calm as we moved deeper into the forest.It was denser than the last time we came around. That was two years, six months ago.

Only the leaves on the ground made a crushing sound as the horses moved deeper.

“Hey medalist, would you like a race with me?"he asked, then took off without warning.

His laughter resonated in the densely vegetated forest.

I shook my head, amused at his behavior, then took off too.

I easily covered up with them and reached our usual finish line.

Laurel and Axel came later strolling with funny expressions .Seeing their red faces, I smiled victorious as they slowed down.

“We all knew I was the winner, so why the long faces......"

I was interrupted by growls behind us as our horses, who were in a panic, ran off.

We were on alert as we formed a triangle back to back with each other.Standing there in fighting stands, expecting for the worst.

Three huge black,dirty wolves circled us,their black eyes and sharp canines were terrifying.My heart rate increased as I gulped, wondering how I found myself here in the first place.

“What to do?We have no guns?"asked Laurel in a small voice.

“Remember everything you learned during your taikwondo lessons and I am sure you can do it "encouraged Axel in a gruffy voice.

Taikwondo???with animals?I released a frustrated breath, wondering if Axel had gone mad. They were not humans but freaking wolves.

Observing him, I realized that when he said taikwondo he didn't literally mean it, but he meant using its tactics to defend himself.

And for the first time in my life I was grateful for the taikwondo lessons Laurel had forced me to practise.

When we were young we all agreed to always walk with knives whenever we went to the forest.Today was not an exception.

It was decided, so after a picnic in the forest ended in a wolf's attack and I almost lost my sister.

Counting up to three, we attacked.The wolf infront of me was huge and it had a pungent choking smell.It fur all dirty. I asked myself if this beast came from.

It overpowered my little frame but I wasn't going to let him hurt me without a fight.

He aimed for my throat with his sharp canines as he pushed me to the ground.

Using my medium-sized knife, I aimed for it's heart and plunged it, dragging it up to it's throat.

I felt blood pouring on my face,I felt like throwing up.It wasn't a pretty sight as the huge beast lay on me,it was blood soaking my clothes.

Using all my strength, I pushed the heavy beast off me and turned to find others still fighting.

But what was strange was that the axel now had fangs and moved in at a high speed.What did that mean?I heard the laurel's sharp cry of pain;the beast had plunged its teeth in her right thigh.It was determined to tear off her limb.

I ran headed toward it,jumping. I landed on its back, planting the knife into its skull.Laurel was free as the wolf's attention was now on me, baring its canines menacingly.

Using both of my hands, I pushed the knife further into the beast's brain, barely holding up as it did its best to throw me away ,swaying me in the most unexpected way.Holding up to that knife,I pushed further, hoping it would finally give up.

Finally, it collapsed to the ground. panting I went down to help my sister stand up as I stared at the deep injury.

Just at that moment, huge white wolves invaded us.

God was this ever going to end?How did we end up here in the first place?

The strongest of them attacked Axel, who had blood dripping down his chin..

Did I really know him?Was I really his girlfriend?? Or was I just having a nightmare?

Pushing that thought at the back of my mind, I went for one of the white wolves who strangely tried his best to avoid my attacks with ease, as if toying with me.

I was interrupted in my trials as I heard Axel cry of pain.I turned to find the white wolf had plunged its teeth into Axel's neck before finally throwing him away like garbage.

No God!No!

Running for him, the wolf retracted its fangs and stepped back.

“Oh God!No! Axel look at me ,Look at me please..."I begged with urgency, not caring why he had fangs anymore or why he could drink blood.I held his head on my thigh.

He smiled weakly at me, his fangs showing fully.

“Am sorry Haze"he muttered, then pushed me away with all his force.

He started burning and I stood there stunned as he was slowly reduced to ashes, while a burning odour lingered in the air.

What had I just witnessed?Was I in a dream?I looked around me to confirm what was happening.The wolf turned to me and my heart stopped.

Laurel sat a few feet behind me and I had to try my best and protect her.My heartbeat increased.I stared around.

Standing there with bare feet,my clothes partly torn up, I ran my hand through my disheveled hair.

If I didn't do anything i'll probably lose my sister and maybe I would be killed too.

Tightening my grip on the knife, I lunged for the white wolf.He seemed to be ready as he pushed me,my butt heating the ground painfully.Not giving up, I plunged my knife into it's shoulder and dragged it out, my eyes tightly closed.

Slowly, his heavy weight on me was lifted and I half expected to see him dead, but I heard a curse as the wolf infront of me changed into a human.

My world stopped:was there something in the tea I drank today?I drank it since morning and the effect must have waved off by now.

He was handsome, strong cheek bones with his amazing deep blue eyes.

His black hair shining,I felt mesmerized by his beauty.On his shoulder was a bleeding injury.

A perfect sculpture of a Greek god but evil from the way he stared at me.I observed his canines slowly vanish. He was really handsome, this demon.

The blood jet slowed down, then slowly the wound closed off.Shit!

The man stared at me with a frown on his face,my heart stopped.

I lifted a brow as he took a step forward.

That stopped him.And his eyes drifted to the knife I held tightly,the corners of his lips tucked up into an amused smile.

Our eyes met again, in a fierce silent battle.

I took a few steps back and I met back to back with my sister.That is all I needed as encouragement to fight this beast.

A heavy chain was thrown around, surprising us and tying us back to back.Laurel and I were actually tied together with a chain.These people were really monsters.

The Greek God came forward and said

“Stop struggling, love.You will only hurt yourself".

Using his right hand, he held my chin firmly. It annoyed me and I didn't resist spitting on him.It didn't seem to have an effect on him, as he smirked.The bastard actually smirked.

“Let's go!" he ordered coldly.The others, who had now changed from huge white wolves into naked humans like the Greek god, hurried towards us.

Obeying their leader, they dragged us away like f*****g animals.Laurel couldn't walk so I had to act as a support,being chained to each other facilitated everything.

I threw a last glance at Axel's now burned body.Why did I come out today?
