How Did The Prophecy Changed
It was a bloody moon when it happened. It was so fast that I can't recall some things that happened that night. The night when they took away my family. Cruel and brutally.
I can still remember how we were just happily eating our supper on that day. Mom cooked for us and I will never forget how good she is at cooking.
"Oh, I am so happy for this day," Dad said.
I laughed when he came to me and started tickling me all over. I was just laughing and laughing when Mom came to us with the food.
"Plenty of food for this day." Mom smiled at us. She looked at Dad and gave him a huge smile.
Dad then took her hand and caressed it with his thumb. "We have been waiting for this day to come, my love."
Mom smiled. "It'll be worth a wait."
It has been everyday since I saw how they love each other. They were the sweetest couple I have ever known. But today seems very special to them. I don't know why. I was just a kid to even know what anniversaries are.
We were laughing about Dad's joke when a sound came from our door. It was endless loud knocks wanting to get in so badly. Mom panicked and held me behind her while Dad went to the door slowly holding a stick.
"Albert, don't," Mom hissed. I looked up at her and I could see how scared yet ready she was.
Dad didn't flinch and still continued to walk towards the door where the loud knocks were coming from.
It was beating like a drum in my chest. I don't have any idea what is happening. I didn't know what could be outside our door. All I know is... Mom and Dad were both ready to see what was coming from.
Daddy was so careful that I couldn't even hear his footsteps. All I know was he was at the door, holding the knob. He looked at us one last time and made contact with Mom before he opened the door carelessly. A naked man was flashed in front of all of us. Mom immediately covered my eyes so I didn't have the chance to see who it was. All I could hear was their conversation full of unsaid thoughts.
"You have to go," the man said with his voice full of panic and control.
"What is happening, Horace?" Dad spoke.
"They will attack."
I don't have any idea of what is happening anymore. I couldn't see because Mom was still covering my eyes. There was a moment of silence inside our house. I wanted to peek but I couldn't.
"What do you mean? What are you saying, Horace?"
"T-The prophecy. It changed."
"We had an agreement with Vladimir that we would live our lives away from our kind."
"Under the full moon. I know, Albert. I was there when you made that agreement. Under the full moon tonight. If you don't transform into your kind, you are free to live like mortals and we will never see you again."
"We have been waiting for this for almost five years, Horace. We haven't turned in for five years and we are certain that we will not turn a full moon tonight."
"But Zaros..." the man cut.
"What about Zaros?"
"He saw how it changed. There will be no full moon tonight."
And there was another break of silence. I was waiting for their conversation to continue even when I couldn't understand a thing. But the next thing I knew was Dad carrying me and Mom was getting our clothes in a rush.
"Daddy, what is happening?" I asked him with my tiny voice.
"We need to go on a vacation away from here, okay?"
"Why?"
"Don't you want to go for a vacation?" Mom asked and she smiled at me like nothing was happening.
"I want to," I answered.
She smiled again and nodded at me. She looked back and continued doing what she was doing.
"Can I say bye to Illumi and Cloe?" They were my friends in this town. I know it will be just a short vacation, but I don't think I can afford to not say goodbye. They are so used to coming over every morning to get me so we can all go fishing or play. I can't imagine what they would think if they came here in the morning and we are gone already.
"No, no one will go outside," Dad declared.
I looked out at the window. There was still a sun.
"It's not yer dark, father."
"Listen to what I say, Amber." I stopped when his tone became a bit angry.
I stood still watching them move so fast just to get our things. Mom held my little hand and pulled me with them for a run. The sun was down when we made it into the middle of the town and I saw it turn red.
"Red moon," I heard Mom whisper.
They stopped midway for a reason. I looked up at the two of them and they were looking at our surroundings. I looked, too, but all I could see was dark. Until one fast creature was sighted by my vision. It was so fast that I thought it was wind only with a black figure. Dad came in front of us and fought with the man. I saw his features clearly when they were already fighting. I saw red eyes and fangs. My eyes widened and tears began to pool in my eyes when I started to realize what was happening.
Dad stabbed the man in his heart and I saw how he faded so darkly in this dark alley.
"We can't fight them like this," he said as he went to Mom.
"We have to go."
"No, Rosita."
"W-What do you mean no?" Mom's voice cracked.
"Get her away from here. I will try to stop them-"
"No! Do not every say that again. Let's go." Mom was about to pull him so we could all run, but Dad stopped.
A man came with red eyes again. But this time, he didn't fight with Dad. He was more like a help.
"Nikolas!" Mom yelled as if she saw the help we needed. "Nikolas will stop them. Albert, please, we have to go."
"No," Dad said. "The prophecy changed for a reason, Rosita. Being mortal isn't for us. I have to do this."
Mom started crying and so was I. I couldn't understand a thing but my heart was hurting so badly.
"Don't do that," Mom cried.
Dad held her cheeks and he cried too. I saw tears. "I will find you no matter what. I want you to take care of her. We both know the beginning of this. She needs to go away.
Dad knelt down to face me. "Just know that no matter what, Daddy loves you so much." He hugged me tight and kissed me on my forehead.
"Go! Go!" He screamed.
Mom was crying as she pulled me away from Dad. Mom didn't stop. We were just running as if she didn't want to look back at Dad anymore. So I did. For her. But what I saw was something I was never able to forget. His red eyes and sharp fangs. Dad became a different person.
I looked back because I wanted answers. I looked back because Mom didn't. But I never thought I'd wish I had never seen that for fifteen whole years. Fifteen years later, it bothers me every day and night that I hope I haven't seen it.
Because no one believes me.
