Chapter 9: The Aftermath
Lexi's heart raced as she watched Senator Parker's face turn red with rage. She knew that she had finally exposed the truth, and nothing could ever silence her again.
"You'll pay for this, Lexi," Senator Parker spat, his eyes blazing with anger. "You'll never work in this town again."
Lexi smiled, her heart full of triumph. "I'm not afraid of you, Senator," she said, her voice firm. "I've exposed your corruption, and now the whole world knows the truth."
Maya Singh stepped forward, her eyes flashing with anger. "You'll never be able to prove it, Lexi," she sneered. "We have too much evidence, and we'll make sure you never work again."
But Lexi was prepared. She pulled out a small recorder from her pocket and pressed play. Maya's voice filled the room, detailing her involvement in the embezzlement scheme.
Maya's eyes widened in shock, and Senator Parker's face turned white with rage. "You'll never be able to use that," he spat. "It's illegal to record someone without their consent."
Lexi smiled, her heart full of triumph. "I have a warrant, Senator," she said, her voice firm. "And I have enough evidence to put you both away for a long time."
The room fell silent, and Lexi knew that she had finally won. She had exposed the truth, and nothing could ever silence her again.
As they left the office, Lexi's phone buzzed with congratulatory messages from her colleagues and friends. She had done it, she had exposed the corruption and brought the perpetrators to justice.
But as she walked out of the building, she felt a sense of unease. She knew that Senator Parker and Maya Singh would stop at nothing to silence her, and she had to be careful.
She looked around, her eyes scanning the crowded streets. She knew that she had to be vigilant, she had to be prepared for anything.
And then she saw him, a tall, dark-haired man watching her from across the street. He was familiar, but she couldn't quite place him.
Lexi's heart raced as she watched him, her mind racing with possibilities. Who was he, and what did he want?
She knew that she had to be careful, she had to be prepared for anything. She took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest, and began to walk towards him.
