Chapter 8: The Visit
Lexi's heart raced as she hung up the phone, her mind reeling with the implications. Maya's words echoed in her ears: "You'll never be able to prove it, Lexi. Senator Parker has too much power, and I have too much evidence."
But Lexi refused to back down. She knew that she had to confront Maya and Senator Parker once and for all.
"Ethan, Jack, we need to come up with a plan," Lexi said, her voice firm. "We need to gather all the evidence we have and confront Maya and Senator Parker."
Ethan nodded, his eyes locked on hers. "I'll start gathering all the financial records and documents we have. Jack, can you reach out to your contacts in the police department and see if they can provide any backup?"
Jack nodded, his face grim. "I'll make the call, but we need to be careful. Senator Parker has a lot of influence, and we don't know what he's capable of."
Lexi's heart raced with fear, but she knew that she had to push forward. She couldn't let Maya and Senator Parker silence her.
As they gathered their evidence and prepared for the final confrontation, Lexi's phone buzzed with another text from the unknown number.
"You're playing with fire, Lexi," the message read. "Back off, or you'll get burned."
Lexi's eyes locked on the message, her heart racing with fear. But she refused to back down.
With a deep breath, Lexi, Ethan, and Jack arrived at Senator Parker's office, their hearts pounding in their chests.
"Senator Parker, we need to talk," Lexi said, her voice firm.
Senator Parker's smile was cold. "What do you want, Lexi? You're just a pesky journalist trying to make a name for herself."
Lexi's eyes locked on his, her mind racing with anger. "We know about the embezzlement, Senator. We know about your connection to Maya Singh."
Senator Parker's eyes narrowed. "You'll never be able to prove it, Lexi. I have too much power, and Maya has too much evidence."
But Lexi was prepared. She pulled out the documents and financial records, her heart pounding in her chest.
"We have the proof, Senator," Lexi said, her voice firm. "And we're not going to let you silence us."
Senator Parker's face turned red with rage, but Lexi stood her ground. She knew that she had finally exposed the truth, and nothing could ever silence her again.
