Before
Well, I guess I should start at the beginning.
My name is Eva, i’m 19 years old and I live in a small town just outside of London. I like to read and play board games in my spare time. I’m as normal as can be. Some might even say boring, but that’s just my elder brother Tom.
That day started like any other, uneventful and regular. I woke up at 8am, had breakfast and got dressed and headed out the door to the train station to start my shift at the diner at 11am. My shift was the same as any other Tuesday, we had our regulars and some other customers including a guy I had never seen before.
He seemed so mysterious. His thick, black hair a mess on top of his head. He was intriguing and somewhat scary all at once. You could see his huge muscles underneath his tight grey t-shirt.
I was so busy staring I hadn’t realised he had waved me over for service.
“Sorry! What can I get for you?” I felt a blush creep up my neck. His piercing green eyes met mine.
“Coffee. Black, and keep it coming.”
I nodded and felt myself blush more. His raspy voice sent shivers up my spine. I served him coffee 3 times whilst he took 2 phone calls and he then abruptly left. There was a £20 left on the table which covered the coffee and a generous tip. I wouldn’t see him again until the following Tuesday, and then most days after that.
Each time he would make the same order, whilst taking phone calls and would leave the same amount of money. And each time I would be more and more interested in him.
Finally, after 3 weeks of being a regular customer, I overheard one of his conversations. All he said was “Yes i’m sure it’s her. She looks just like the picture”. And after that he would always pause his conversations when I went to pour the coffee. I never thought anything of it.
Almost a month after his first visit instead of helping himself to his regular booth he walked up to the counter. I never realised how tall he was until he was standing right in front of me. He was easily 6’4” and me being my tiny 5’ self it was kind of intimidating.
“Hey..I figured since i’m a regular I should introduce myself. I’m Laurence.”
He stuck out his had to shake it, and I obliged. His huge hand engulfed mine and we shook once.
“I’m Eva, Nice to finally meet you” I said with a grin. He returned the smile and made his way over to his usual booth. I sighed quietly whilst a silly smile spread over my face. There was just something about him. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but he just seemed so different from anybody I had met.
