CHAPTER 4 A new chapter of life unfolds

Lucas's POV

"Are the Papers ready Aaron?" I asked over the Phone. "Yes Boss.. I've set everything in place but Mr Lawley is refusing to sign the Papers." " Let him be. I will take care of him." I had heard about Mr. Tristian Lawley, his name was called in fear. Rumors say he was a cold-hearted and wicked man, and a lot of Media Personnel were scared to speculate any news from him. Still thinking about what to do about the situation, I got a call from my Father. " Father, I'm on my way." " I sent the Driver to get you but he couldn't find out you." " Father— I was only away for 6 months, not a Year. I still know my way around the City." "Drive safely Lucas." He said before the call went off. Father hasn't changed a bit, I muttered to myself. I was driving home myself, I had just looked away to take my phone when I saw a Lady who was crossing the road absentmindedly, She hadn't even looked to see if a Vehicle was coming. Luckily for her, I had noticed quite early and immediately applied Brakes which made the front Tyres screech loudly. " What are you doing? You want to get yourself killed?” She looked at me weakly, it took me some time to realize that she was wobbling. She fell down but luckily I caught her, scared that something must have happened to her. I rushed her to the Hospital. I called Aaron immediately, "Tell me the nearest Hospital." He said it. Without asking any questions. "She's fine. She was only traumatized. I guess it was from the beating she received. There are different lashes on her body.."I thanked the Doctor and followed the Nurse to see her, she was still asleep when I entered the room. The Nurse left immediately, I watched her for a few minutes. She was cute and breathed peacefully like a Child, the Doctor was right. There were a lot of bruises on her face and her body. When I got home I was welcomed by my Mum first, she was outside waiting for me. "Mother…You shouldn't have done this." I was displeased about her behaviour. "You left me with no choice Lucas." She was really worried but it was a good thing that I paid a Nurse to take care of the young Woman in the Hospital. She is stressed and needs enough rest so she will be stuffed with drips and injections, The Doctor had said. "Come with me my Son, your Father and Sister are eagerly waiting for your arrival." My Mother said as she guided me into the House like it was my first time there. As soon as I got inside the House, I was welcomed with a big hug from Olivia. She jumped on my body in excitement, and I had no option but to embrace her. She had gained some weight though and looked quite bigger than the 20-year-old that I used to fight and play with. "Olivia…" Mum called, " let your Brother be." But she paid no attention as she hugged me tighter, I freed myself and slowly brought her feet to the Floor but as she stepped down she hugged me again. ……… Two days later I was in the Office filling and signing documents when a call from the Doctor came, I answered it instantly. "Mr. Lucas?" " Yes, Doctor…how is She?" I asked. " She's the reason I called, the patient has finally woken up and is asking about you." "Okay, Doctor, I will get there in 15 minutes." A smile lit up my face immediately, I was glad she was finally awake. Since the last time I visited, I have always thought of her. She looked hopeless and like she had no Family, the thought of me having a crush on her made me blush. That was quite impossible. I got to the hospital after 15 minutes and I informed the Doctor, he was the first to welcome me before the Nurse took me to the Ward where the young lady was. As I followed the Nurse, my mind battled the different thoughts on how she would react when she saw me. The Doctor said she had been reserved and scared each time she woke up and she would be treated with another injection to stop her from being violent. I took a deep breath before entering inside. By that time the Nurse had left, after showing me the room. As I entered, she looked at me weirdly without blinking.I summoned up the courage to move forward still she didn't remove her eyes from me. Was she admiring me? I thought. I got nearer and she made space for me to sit beside her. I watched her, my tongue had been tied and I could say nothing but watch. She was pretty and looked better than when I had seen her, the scars were fading little by little and in two weeks I guessed she would have normal skin. " Thank you." She muttered and smiled. The smile caught my attention and I admired the beauty that was before me. " What's your name?" I asked. "Evelyn Lawl…" but she stopped halfway and continued almost immediately, "My name is Evelyn." "I'm Lucas, Lucas Stone. Do you know who did this to you?" "You saved me." " Yes, I know…I'm talking about the scars and bruises on your body." " No…one." She lied, I knew she was hiding something. Was she scared? "Don't be scared. I won't confront anyone nor will I do anything that you don't want. I'll give you my word." She watched me for a while and I figured out she was contemplating whether to believe me. Finally, she spoke up, "It's my Husband who did this." So she was married, I thought and for some reason, I felt a prick. " He will always beat me up." She slowly began to narrate everything that happened to her and how she ended up with him. " What's your Husband's name?" Tristian Lawley— I was shocked, which wasn't expected, I had heard a lot about him but never have I thought he would be someone who tortures his Wife and makes out with her best friend.
