Chapter 2 _ Between two worlds

1271 Words
The dream wrapped around her like velvet, warm and intoxicating, a world that pulled her deeper the moment she closed her eyes. Through the hazy veil of sleep, she saw him again standing in front of her room, eyes burning with desire, a dangerous intensity that made her heart pound. “Who… are you?” Aria whispered, her voice barely more than a breath. He tilted his head, a slow, knowing smile curving his lips. “I suppose that depends on whether you want the truth… or a fantasy.” “I want the truth,” she said, curiosity overcoming her hesitation. For a moment, he simply watched her, memorizing every detail of her face. “Names are powerful,” he murmured, “but you may call me Kael.” “Kael,” she repeated, testing the sound, tasting it on her tongue. Her heart thumped dangerously fast. “And… why are you here? In my dreams?” He stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from him, the faint brush of his fingers against hers making her shiver. “Because you’ve been looking for me, even if you didn’t know it.” Aria swallowed, breath hitching, caught between disbelief and the strange, magnetic pull he exerted over her. “I… I don’t understand.” “You will,” he promised, voice low and hypnotic, as the room seemed to pulse around them, the line between dream and desire fading with every heartbeat. Kael’s presence was intoxicating, overwhelming, and terrifying all at once. His gaze pinned her in place, a silent command that made her forget everything else the rules, the reality she clung to. He leaned just slightly closer, and she could feel the warmth radiating off his body, the air between them heavy with something unspoken. “I… I feel like I should be scared,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “Scared?” His brow arched, lips twitching with amusement. “There’s nothing to fear, Aria. Not from me.” Her pulse raced, a heat pooling low in her stomach. She wanted to step back, to retreat from the intensity, but every instinct in her body urged her forward. “Then… what do you want from me?” Kael’s fingers hovered near hers again, close enough to ignite a fire at the mere brush of skin. “I want you to see me, to remember me. That’s enough for now.” She shivered. “Remember you… but why? I’ve only just met you—at least, I think I have.” “You’ve known me longer than you think,” he said simply, voice soft but commanding. “Dreams have a way of revealing truths we don’t recognize while awake. And you… you’ve been waiting for me.” Aria’s cheeks flushed. The dream was too vivid, too real. She wanted to reach out, to touch him, but her rational mind screamed that this was impossible. And yet… And yet, she felt drawn to him, helplessly, irresistibly. *********** When she awoke, the room was quiet. The hum of the city outside her window was soft, yet oddly foreign. She blinked against the morning light filtering through her curtains, trying to convince herself it had been just a dream. But the memory of Kael the way he looked, the smoldering gaze, the ghost of his touch clung to her like a second skin. This is becoming surreal, she thought, shivering despite the sunlight streaming in. Twice now, he had appeared in her dreams. Twice, she had felt a pull she couldn’t explain. She rubbed her eyes, attempting to chase away the lingering ache, but it persisted. Every brush of air, every shadow on her walls seemed to whisper his presence. Finally, with a sigh, she rolled out of bed and headed to the kitchen, where her roommate Clara was already scrolling through her phone, sipping coffee. “You’re up early,” Clara said without looking up. Aria hesitated, unsure how to phrase the impossible. “Clara… I… I had another dream last night.” Clara raised an eyebrow. “Another one of those?” “Yes! It’s not just a dream this time. It’s… I don’t know. I saw him again Kael. The same blue-eyed man from the other night. And he… he was real, at least it felt real.” Clara finally looked at her, lips twitching into a half-smile. “Aria, you’re scaring me. You talk about these dream guys like they’re real. It’s just your imagination. Everyone has dreams.” Aria groaned. “You don’t understand. This isn’t just imagination. Twice now, I’ve seen him. Twice! And I feel… drawn to him. Like… something’s calling me.” Clara shrugged, returning to her phone. “Okay, dream girl. Just don’t start making coffee for him too. You’re already late for work.” Aria muttered under her breath, grabbed her bag, and walked out, a sense of unease following her like a shadow. Maybe Clara was right. Maybe it was just her imagination. But a part of her knew it wasn’t. There was something… undeniable about Kael, something that lingered even after the dream faded. *********** The city streets were bustling as usual, the morning rush pressing around her like a living thing. She tried to focus on mundane things street signs, passing cars, the aroma of freshly baked bread from a nearby bakery but her thoughts kept drifting back to the dream. To him. Twice in dreams… and now… will it happen in real life? Her heartbeat quickened as she navigated through the crowd, senses heightened. Every shadow seemed deeper, every passerby vaguely familiar. And then… she saw him. Across the street from her office, standing near a café, was a man who made her blood run cold. He looked exactly like Kael. Blue eyes sharp, jawline strong, hair tousled just enough to make her heart skip. For a moment, she thought her vision had betrayed her. Her pulse raced, thoughts spiraling. No, it’s impossible. Dreams don’t cross into reality… do they? Yet he was there, watching her, and when their eyes met, a shiver ran down her spine, an echo of that same magnetic pull she had felt in her dreams. Aria froze, unsure whether to run, approach, or pretend she hadn’t seen him. The city noises faded, leaving only the rapid beat of her heart, synchronized with the thrilling, impossible pull of the stranger. Kael smiled faintly, a slow, knowing curl of lips that made her body betray her caution. Then, just as suddenly, he turned and disappeared into the crowd. Blinking, she stared after him, heart hammering. Had she imagined it? A trick of light? Shadows? But deep down, she knew she hadn’t. Something extraordinary had just brushed against her life, and she didn’t know whether to fear it… or follow it. ********** Aria’s thoughts raced on the way to her office, each step heavy with anticipation. Every pedestrian seemed like a blur, every car horn a background rhythm to the lingering image of Kael’s blue eyes. She tried to focus on work but how could she, when the impossible felt so real? Reaching her office building, she paused, glancing back across the street. The café was empty now. No sign of him. Only the heat still crawling along her skin and the undeniable certainty that she would see him again. “Focus,” she whispered, gripping her bag strap tightly. But even as she entered the lobby, her mind betrayed her, twisting between dream and reality. Kael was out there somewhere, and the dangerous, irresistible game had only just begun.
