Chapter One
"Once upon a time, there was a girl of fire and ice," I whispered to myself. "She was locked up and away, bound in obsidian and iron, impervious to the fire and ice she unleashed upon them. However much she fought, she was overpowered by the resisting chains that bound her and her powers and locked the princess away."
I reached up and touched the mask. It was smooth and cold, shaped like a wolf's face, smooth angles and tall ears that stood up straight. "Captured," I said quietly. "I am captured."
The day before, the Queen of Ashwind had been assassinated in her sleep, blood dripping from her bedsheets. "Queen of Ashwind. I am the lost queen of Ashwind." I told myself, although I could barely believe it. Ashwind was so far away, months to travel by horseback, while I sat locked up in this dark cell in Glasswood.
Light shattered through my cell and I screamed at the sudden blinding glare. "Get up." a cold male voice said sharply. "Stand. We have no time for this. You are to see the Crown Prince of Glasswood."
A human voice? No. It couldn't be. I hadn't heard a human voice or felt a human touch in nearly five years, moons coming and going as I lay in darkness.
"As you are. We have no time to bathe. Get up, now." He roughly tugged me to my feet. I swayed unsteadily, having not stood up in uncountable years.
"We don't have time for this nonsense!" He dragged me along a long corridor and willingly, I went with him. Even though I unleashed my fire on the chains, but they were horrifyingly unrelenting.
