She stood there like the corridor belonged to her, still looking at me with those huge eyes.
Ariella wasn’t just smiling now. She was… rocking softly on her heels, hands clasped in front of her like she was looking at someone she admired. Like she’d just seen something that made her heart flutter.
Her cheeks were pink.
Blushing. She’s blushing? For me?
Ray went still for one second like he couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Then he started panting like a dog that had just been handed the biggest bone in existence.
‘She’s smiling at us,’ he purred inside my head. He was practically wagging his tail inside me. ‘She likes us now. She chose us. I told you she would come around. Look at the stars shooting out of her eyes. Do you think we should just mark her now?’
