Chapter 3

She put on a carefree front. "Liam, I was just joking with you. How could you actually ask Victoria to plan our wedding for us? I was just young and foolish back when we got divorced. I never dared to hope I'd get a proper wedding. "I'll be going now. I'll take care of the child on my own. I won't put Victoria in a difficult position." After she finished speaking, she blinked, and big, fat tears came rolling out. She bowed to me. "Victoria, this child really was an accident. Someone drugged me back then, Liam was only trying to save me..." Seeing Molly lay her painful past bare like this, Liam immediately barked at me, "Victoria, Molly is pregnant. You're both women, how can you be so completely lacking in empathy!" He then lifted Molly horizontally into his arms. "I'll take you to try on wedding dresses." As he passed me, he said in a low voice, "Send me the wedding plan this afternoon. Stop throwing a tantrum. This is your job." I stood rooted to the spot, completely frozen, for a long time. Then a notification popped up on my phone. Ryan: Vicky, what kind of wedding do you like? My flight was delayed. I'm just waiting around here. Anyway, why don't we finalize the wedding details early? What do you think? I looked like a fool, crying and laughing at the same time. The man I've loved deeply for ten years never paid any mind to the seventeen weddings I planned over the years, and now he's making me plan his wedding to his ex-wife. Yet the person who'd been my rival since we were small always put me first in everything. After I sent my reply to Ryan, I saw that Molly had posted a nine-grid of wedding photos on her social media account. Her caption read: My happy ending at last. All the comments were full of regret and sympathy. Liam, for the first time ever, left a comment under Molly's post. Liam: [Don't talk nonsense. You will always be the mother of my child.] The ring on her finger was the one he had never put on my finger, not once in all seventeen weddings I had planned. My chest ached so sharply it felt like it was being twisted apart. But I still tapped the like button before I exited the page. I sent the resignation letter I'd prepared long ago to HR, where I worked. The person on the other end asked cautiously, "Ms. Sinclair, does Mr. Hayes know about this?" I kept my face completely calm. "Haven't you seen Molly's social media post? This was his idea. Stamp it with the signature seal and send me the acknowledgment as soon as possible." HR worked quickly. Only ten minutes later, they sent me the resignation acknowledgment. Liam suddenly called me, his tone harsh and cold, "Come to Golden Splendor." I was about to refuse when I heard him say, "I've invited friends here, everyone's waiting for you." I hesitated for a moment. I didn't want to make a scene in front of our friends, so I went anyway. But as soon as I pushed open the private room door, I saw Molly sitting at the head of the table, wiping Liam's mouth for him. When she saw me, she immediately stopped what she was doing and forced a smile. "I'm sorry, Victoria. I got used to doing this when I was with Liam before. Come sit here," she said as she started to stand up. Liam held Molly down, and was just about to speak when he heard me say, "It's fine." I took the opportunity to sit in the seat closest to the door. Liam furrowed his brow subconsciously, and tightened his grip on the wine glass in his hand. For the rest of the meal, Liam kept glancing my way, on purpose or by accident. He even peeled a whole plate of shrimp himself and passed it to me. I lifted my eyes calmly and said, "I'm allergic to shrimp." Liam froze, a look of fluster flashed in his eyes. Molly finally got her chance to jump in, and explained with feigned concern, "Don't be angry, Victoria. Liam must have mixed it up. I'm the one who loves eating shrimp." I knew she was trying to provoke me in this underhanded way again. In the past, I would always lose my temper in public and make a scene. But now I only glanced at her calmly, and pushed the plate of shrimp toward her. "Then eat more." Liam stared at me intently. Molly called his name several times, but he did not respond. "Victoria, what happened in the past was my fault. Let me toast you." As she spoke, the heavily pregnant woman walked over to my side. When no one was watching, she quickly drank half the glass in one go. Then... she poured the remaining wine over my head, drenching me completely. She leaned close to my ear and smiled. "This baby wasn't an accident, you know. When I said I wanted it, he gave it to me. Oh, I remember now. It was the day your mother died. We f****d over and over, right behind the mourning hall." All of a sudden, she threw herself violently backward. "Ah! My baby, my baby!" she screamed.
