Chapter One - Liana
Chapter One
Liana.
"You've just been transferred, Miss Vale"
My boss and ex boyfriend, Eric spoke in a frank tone. I didn't say a word, neither did I object. I just simply nodded, agreeing to my fate almost immediately. My best friend, Natasha parted her lips, staring at me in disbelief with her mouth wide open. Eric handed me my files and I turned to walk away, but Natasha wasn't having it.
"Girl! What is wrong with you? Are you really going to go away?" Natasha asked, grabbing my hand which made me stop to face her. I was already tired of arguing, I had already resolved that I would no longer argue with anyone from the administrative department and would just accept whatever they gave me. Natasha on the other hand, thought they weren't treating me fair which was true.
"Let's take it as a promotion, Asha" I said, faking a smile. She looked at me as if I had gone crazy for a second.
"Why do you choose to be dumb and foolish girl? Don't you see, they are doing this to get rid of you. Who would speak out whenever the heck we need something?" She asked, clearly frustrated. I turned to her, not muzzled.
"You will. You have a sharp mouth and a long tongue. Clearly you take after me. And you're my best friend after all, so you'd do just fine " I said, my voice sounding void of empathy.
"Take after you? Do I look like your daughter?" She asked and I didn't respond. I just started walking towards my office.
"You'd do just fine, Asha"
While packing my stuff, I reasoned in my head.
If this was it, then I'm actually going to leave. I knew within me that it wasn't because I had a loud mouth or always opposed my seniors whenever they did something wrong, it was much more than that.
My door slowly creaked and I looked up to see Eric, his tall frame blocking the light from entering the office.
"You didn't put on the light switch, Liana " He said as his hands scurried the wall, searching for the switch. He soon found it and flipped it on, and a shiny golden glow fell on the room, emanating from the bulb.
I didn't say anything, I just simply continued to pack my stuff into several boxes. I was to leave tomorrow, so I had to put everything in order. I felt a hand grab me from behind, pulling me close till I hit a stiff, breathing object. It was Eric. He placed his nose on my neck, inhaling my scent. I found it to be crazy and tried to push him away, but he was too strong for that.
"Let go of me Eric" I said in an angry tone, but he refused. His hands were wrapped on my waist, his huge frame covering my small body that it was almost impossible to move and I could feel him grinding into me.
"I love you, Liana. I don't want you to leave, but the boss was the one who specifically asked for this. Left for me, I wouldn't let you go" Eric said, his nose still on my neck. I finally pushed him away after gathering much strength.
Why would the boss want me? I have heard of him, but not had much time to meet with him one on one. It bothered me at the moment, but I didn't give much thought to it as I had other bigger problems, one right now which was pushing Eric off of me.
"I said let go!" I yelled. He staggered back, licking his lips, his eyes still lingering on me. I could see hurt in his eyes, but he tried to hide it.
"You said you love me, and it doesn't even bother you on why the boss specifically asked for me. You're too dumb" I spat in disgust. He took my hand again but I yanked it back, angrily.
"Trust me, I do love you Liana and I'm sorry for everything that has happened between us. If you just give me this chance to make things right_"
"I've given you many chances Eric, but you were too stupid to notice. And I'm done. I'm done being a toy for you to use. You can keep playing your little charades with Violet. As for me, I'm done" I said unapologetically, even though I was at the brink of tears. I quickly grabbed my stuff and hurried out of the office, not even waiting for Natasha. Going back to my past was a hard memory for me. I remembered all the times I had sat alone waiting for Eric, only to later find out he was with Violet. Those lonely nights, he had left me, lied to me, just to be with Violet. And now, it was too late because he had lost me for good.
Back at home, Natasha was pissed that I left her, so she threw a whole fit.
"You are unbelievable. I can't believe you'd ditch me just because of the little things I said" She said, throwing her purse on the couch. I didn't respond, my eyes glued to the TV screen, a bag of chips in my hand while being wrapped up in bed covers. I wasn't in the mood for a dialogue, but Natasha clearly did not take the hint.
"I'm talking to you, princess!" She yelled. I yawned lightly, giving a tired answer.
"I don't want to talk" I said calmly, not even sparing a glance at her. She seemed to be calm now, so she sat next to me with a remorseful look.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know you'd be upset. I was just worried that if you left,I might not be able to cope" She said. I finally turned to face her.
"Well, I believe you'd do just fine. And that's not the main reason why I'm upset"
She looked up, curious.
"Eric came to ask for forgiveness. He wants a second chance. I don't want to go back to him, but I'm still in love with him" I confessed. She placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Do whatever makes you happy. Just know I'm here for you"
I smiled. Hearing that was just all I needed. Then my phone beamed and I saw the message.
"I've submitted your files to the boss. He says you should come tomorrow. It's your choice now"
My heart cut. Should I agree or not?
