Matchmaking mission begins.
Barbara was sitting at her desk, the bright light from her laptop was the only illumination source in the dark room. The clock on the wall was ticking nonstop, reminding her it was already late. She was scrolling through online dating profiles, looking over the selected pictures and collective bios with a sense of tiredness. As she closed her laptop, she let out a deep sigh, leaning back in her chair and running her fingers through her long hair. It was another dead end. Ever since her divorce from Paul, she had been living as a single mother of two for years now. While it seemed like she had grown used to being alone, there were times when the loneliness became too heavy for her to bear. "Are you still looking for a date for Friday night, Mom?" Ben teased from the kitchen. Barbara smiled, looking towards the direction of the kitchen and pushing herself away from the desk. She made her way to the kitchen where her two children, Ben and Lily, bent their heads having a deep conversation. "I'm giving up on online dating kids," Barbara said as she joined her children at the table. "It's just not for me." Lily’s eyes glowing with mischief, exchanged a suspicious glance with her brother. "You don't have to worry Mom," she said with confidence. "We have got a plan." Barbara raised an eyebrow looking at them with so much curiosity. "Oh? And what plan could that be?" Ben grinned. "We're going to find you the perfect partner." he declared with enthusiasm. Barbara giggled, shaking her head at her children's words. "As sweet as that sounds, you two should focus on your schoolwork, not my love life." "Alright mom," they said uniformly . But Ben and Lily were unmoved, their minds already spinning with different ideas for their matchmaking mission. Days turned into weeks, Ben and Lily's matchmaking mission was in full swing. They spent their evenings looking through social media, formulating the perfect online dating profile for their mom and picking out eligible suitors. One afternoon, as Barbara returned from work, she found Ben and Lily sitting around the kitchen table holding a stack of paper spread out before them. "What's all this?" Barbara asked curiously as she approached the table. Ben and Lily exchanged a quick glance before turning to face their mom, wearing matching faces of excitement. "We've been doing some research," Ben said, handing the stack of papers to Barbara. "We've compiled a list of potential suitors for your perfect match." Barbara's eyebrows shot up in surprise as she looked through the papers spread out before her. The list was unending, filled with names, photos, and detailed profiles of potential suitors from all walks of life. "We even scored them," Ben added, pointing to a series of ratings and scores next to each candidate's name. "We're calling it the Love Score." Barbara couldn't help but laugh at her children's enthusiasm. "This is quite an operation you've got going on here," she said, impressed by them. "We're serious about finding you a partner Mom," he said. "And we're not going to stop until we find the perfect match." Barbara looked at her children with so much gratitude, their determination shining in their eyes. She may not have asked for their help, but she couldn't deny the love and support they were offering. "Thank you," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "I don't know what I did to deserve such amazing kids." Ben and Lily smiled before returning to their planning, their minds already spinning with ideas for their next move. She may not have found love yet, but with Ben and Lily by her side, she knew that anything was possible. Barbara had always been an independent woman who had never felt the need for anyone in her life. While she appreciated the effort from her kids, she was secretly hoping they would give up and forget about their matchmaking mission. Barbara had been through a lot in her life and had come to believe that she would find someone when the time was right. She had her routine and enjoyed her children's company, and the thought of someone disrupting that life was a little unsettling. Deep down she knew that companionship was important. She just didn't want to rush into anything and was hoping to let things happen naturally. Despite her children's persistence, Barbara was hopeful that fate would bring the right person into her life at the right time.
