Chapter 18

1356 Words
Rachel I don't know why they were this frantic. They kept knocking on the doors to the cubicle. If there was no sound, my pursuer would leave. They left any cubicle that had people answering with a voice that wasn't mine too. I clenched my phone in my hand as I stared at the door. My decision to find out about my coworkers was right but my way of executing that decision was wrong. It brought me trouble. It was obvious that these people that set me up had taken the cure for whatever they gave me. Their normalcy was the reason I was deceived. It was the reason I was pressured into drinking what they offered. My body was still showing me hell but I managed to lift the edges of my lips a little. Those people did not force me. I was the one that let their momentum and aura get to me. I was reaping the results of my actions now. Sweat began covering every inch of my body. It felt like I was dunked in lukewarm water. The sweat on my body cooled and more sweat continued coming out of my pores. My breathes was getting heavier. Without doing anything, I knew that in a few more minutes, my heavy breathes and gasps would give my location away. It felt like my whole body was at melting point. "Where is she? I have gone downstairs, she is not there." Patricia's voice asked. "She has to be in one of the cubicles here. That thing would have started affecting her." The man that spoke to the waiter earlier said. Patricia hissed, "Kelvin, it is not about how likely she is to have left. We need to find her before she snitches. We can not let her run wild without any black material to threaten her with." "Patricia, calm down. We would find her before anything bad happens. She would have been turned into a woozy mess if we are judging by the time. Rachel would not be able to harm us, she would not be a threat. Chill." The man Patricia called Kelvin said confidently. "You are telling me to chill? How about letting us chill after we lose our jobs? Didn't I warn everyone to be very careful? Rachel is related to Mr Chase somehow. Giving her the space and opportunity to contact him would bring adverse results." Patricia snapped. Kelvin did not reply and silence reigned. Only the sound of their footsteps remained. My head was getting dizzier by the second and it took huge willpower that was fueled by pain to listen to their conversation. Their voices echoed in the bathroom too. That helped me a lot. My heart sank when I heard Patricia's words. I knew Patricia was a toxic person that would take revenge for even the slightest thing anybody does to her. Still, I did not know she would go this far. She and her cohorts wanted to blackmail me after I did something embarrassing. I remembered that these people had their phones out when I drank the wine Polly offered me. This was why. They wanted to record me in an unsavory moment. I thought I was pretty hardcore in my actions. I did not know that Patricia had other, darker plans for me. She wanted to e*****e me. Her idea was to put me under her thumb. Finally, my pursuers got to my cubicle. The cubicles in this bathroom was set in a straight line. My cubicle was nearer to the end of the row. "We had searched other cubicles, only this cubicle is left." Kelvin said in a casual tone. I don't know if he was sure I was in here and he was using his words to bruise my mental stability. I remained silent. I did not move a muscle despite how every inch of my boiling innards wanted me to. The bathroom got too quiet. There was no further actions by Patricia, Kelvin or any other people that might have been with them. "M-mr Chase." Patricia's trembling voice called. I could taste the fear in her voice. There wasn't any hint of the woman that almost confronted Chase at the lobby of the Steel Cell Group's premises. A knock sounded on my cubicle door at the same time. "Rachel, it's me. Open up." Chase's deep voice washed over me like a warm torrent of calming water. Relief flooded my insides amd his presence made me gather some of my scattered wits. I scrambled to the door and opened it. Chase stood before me in all his glory. His inky eyes was coated with concern. The drug that was affecting me gave me courage like never before. It made reality a bit far from me. I did not want to care about the possibility of our friendship disintegrating because of my thoughts of him. I just wanted solace and comfort. I leaped into his arms. I let out a relieved sigh when his arms was wrapped around me. He did not push me away. His embrace gave me a bit of strength. Patricia, Kelvin, Alexis and three other men stood a few feet away from us. Their faces was as pale as snow and beads of sweat ran down their cheeks. Another man was at the entrance to the bathroom. He wore professional clothes that was the same shade and color as the waiters I saw downstairs. He was bowing a bit. He was being deferential to Chase. "What is this?" Chase said to Patricia and her group. The man that worked for this restaurant was trembling too. The dark intentions hidden in his voice was as clear as day. "M-mr Chase, this is all a misunderstanding. Rachel was drunk and we are trying to help her get back to her house." Kelvin said as soon as he could get his words together into something tangible. Patricia did not speak. She was just nodding to whatever Kelvin was saying. Chase's right eyebrow rose, "Oh. What am I misunderstanding? I haven't even finished with my words." Kelvin stammered for a few seconds before falling silent under Chase's penetrating stare. "Patricia, I warned you previously to take your work serious but you refused. All of you should not bother to come to work tomorrow." Chase said before he strode out of the male bathroom. Patricia and her group did not move. They were as still as limestone statues. The man that worked in this restaurant followed him promptly. "Mr Chase, we are sorry for this blunder. We will ban these people forever. They would not be able to eat in our restaurants and any of its branches ever again." The man said in a rush. Chase had already carried me in his arms. He was walking fast so the man had to say whatever he had to say quickly. Chase gave a tiny and brisk nod. The man that was following us smiled like he won the lottery before he stopped walking. I could imagine how he would ruthlessly deal with Patricia and her group. Chase exited the restaurant. His black limousine was parked right in front of the restaurant. He did not release me even after we boarded the limousine. I was not willing to release him either. Having bodily contact with him stopped me from going crazy. "Call the doctor. He should meet me at the mansion in five minutes." Chase ordered and the bodyguard that was sitting on the seat beside the driver nodded. Black dots began appearing in my vision. I was feeling like a mess. As I was closing my eyes, Chase looked down at my face. "Rachel, stay with me." Chase said gently. I wanted to reply but it was like my lips was taped together. My tongue hid behind my teeth like a useless decoration. I could only blink slowly. He used his hand to wipe the sweat my body constantly generated. My hair was sticking to my scalp like second skin. Everything was all shades of wrong for me. Soon, the blackness in my vision consumed me.
