Chapter 1
"Sign this immediately!" Mrs. Rose threw a piece of paper right at Ruby's face. The paper was none other than a divorce petition. The look of hatred in Mrs. Rose's eyes toward Ruby, the daughter-in-law she so despised, was clear. The divorce papers finally fell near Ruby's feet, with Ruby having no intention of picking them up. The young woman just sighed briefly while staring at Mrs. Rose with an unreadable look in her eyes. Of course, for Mrs. Rose, this was an act of insolence. Even though Ruby remained silent and said nothing, the defiance in her eyes was clear. "Pick up that divorce papers and sign them!" Mrs. Rose repeated her command in a sharp tone. This time, if Ruby still chose to remain silent, Mrs. Rose's patience would surely run out. "I don't want to," Ruby finally replied. It was an answer that, of course, made Mrs. Rose feel extremely angry. "You don't want to?" Mrs. Rose asked, her jaw tightening with emotion. "There is no reason for me to divorce Arslan. Our relationship is fine. I can understand if you cannot accept me as your daughter-in-law at this moment, but of course you cannot make us divorce just like that." Ruby replied calmly to Mrs. Rose. Mrs. Rose's eyes looked even more fierce. Her breathing began to rise and fall irregularly, indicating that Mrs. Rose's emotions had been ignited. As a prominent lady whose words were never ignored, Ruby's answer just now sounded like an extraordinary insult. "You!" Mrs. Rose pointed her finger at Ruby's face. "You are truly the most shameless person I have ever met!" Ruby clamped her mouth shut, her emotions raging inside her. She tried her best not to appear fragile in front of Mrs. Rose. She was determined to accept all the consequences of her decision to marry Arslan. "Listen to me while I'm still saying it nicely like now. Sign this divorce papers and get as far away from my son as possible. I'll give you as much money as you want. I know you ensnared my son for luxury, but you are too greedy if you want the position of Mrs. Dominic. Remember who you are! Remember who your parents are! My family was kind enough to employ your parents so they could raise you properly. But what did you do? You ensnared my son!" Mrs. Rose sighed briefly, trying to calm her emotions. As a lady from a respectable family, she had to maintain her dignity even when angry. "I'm not ensnaring Arslan, ma'am. We love each other—" "Shut your mouth!" Mrs. Rose snapped angrily before Ruby could finish her sentence. "You choose for yourself, end your relationship with Arslan now and leave with the money I give you. Or if you still insist, Arslan himself will throw you out! I am giving you a choice because I still have a conscience. But if you still choose to be greedy, then don't blame me if you are thrown out in a cruel way that you could never have imagined." Mrs. Rose added threateningly. Ruby's eyes widened slightly at the threat. Of course, there was a hint of fear and worry in her heart, but she remained strong because she had promised Arslan not to waver even a little, even if she had to face a storm. "I promised Arslan that I wouldn't give up easily. We love each other, ma'am. We will face anything as long as we can stay together," replied Ruby, trying not to be intimidated. "Love each other? Pfft, nonsense! My son may be interested in you right now, but it's ridiculous for you to say that you love each other. You don't love Arslan, you just want the high social status and luxury that my son has. And Arslan, do you think he cares about love? You're dreaming too big, Ruby! And you're too ignorant. Just because Arslan likes you, you dare to take the opportunity to force your way into my family. Do you think you deserve to bear the name Dominic?" Mrs. Rose smiled crookedly with a look of contempt in her eyes. Ruby could only sigh deeply, suppressing the turmoil that felt increasingly suffocating in her chest. She was indeed nothing when compared to the Dominic family. Her late father was only a personal driver who served the family. Meanwhile, her mother was a maid who was responsible for cleaning every corner of the family's house every day. Mrs. Rose was right. Thanks to those jobs, Ruby's parents were able to send her to school. Thanks to that, Ruby was able to get a degree and join Dominic's company, albeit as an ordinary employee. Eventually, due to her outstanding performance, Ruby was promoted to personal secretary to Arslan Dominic, the company's deputy director and crown prince who would soon replace the current director. That was where the story between Ruby and Arslan began. Perhaps because they often spent time together and felt comfortable, the two fell in love. At first, Ruby rejected the relationship because she realized the gap between them. But Arslan continued to convince her that they could overcome all their differences. Arslan was so cold to other women, but so attentive to Ruby. So how could Ruby not be moved by him? Was it wrong for them to ultimately choose to immortalize their love in the bond of marriage? Was that a form of greed? "This is my last warning, Ruby, and the only chance I'm giving you. If you insist on your current decision, then be prepared to face the consequences. Whether you are willing to sign the divorce papers now or not, I can assure you that Arslan will still leave you. It's just that I'm giving you this offer because I feel a little sympathy for you." Mrs. Rose's sarcastic words broke Ruby's reverie. Ruby lifted her face slightly. From the look on Mrs. Rose's face, it was clear that the middle-aged woman was serious about what she said. Mrs. Rose would definitely do everything she could to separate Ruby and Arslan. "I hope you don't regret your decision today to reject my offer. Don't blame anyone for what happens later, because I have given you a warning and an offer." Mrs. Rose emphasized once again in a sharp tone before finally leaving the apartment where Ruby and Arslan had been living for the past few months. After Mrs. Rose left, Ruby leaned against the apartment door with her face slightly tilted upward. Her heart was troubled and her feelings were uncertain. Her pride was clearly hurt, but what was even more frightening was imagining what Mrs. Rose would do to her and Arslan. Would Arslan really leave her for his mother and break the marriage vows they had made before God? Ruby and Arslan had only been married for two weeks. They should have been enjoying their honeymoon and spending romantic time together. But what could she do? Ruby had to swallow one bitter pill after another. Arslan hadn't come home for two days because of something urgent at work. And now her mother-in-law had come with a warning. Was all this the beginning of the suffering Ruby would have to endure for daring to ac cept the proposal of a perfect man like Arslan?
