Chapter 4: The Polygamy Labyrinth

1994 Words
"You are my primary wife, Sia, and you will stay in this house even if I have to turn it into a prison for both of you." Sia stood frozen in the center of the grand drawing-room, her hands clenched at her sides as Sean’s parau voice echoed off the high marble walls. The golden morning light filtered through the reinforced glass windows, but it brought no warmth to the cold, clinical luxury of the mansion. Before she could voice her anger, the heavy automated double doors slid open with a soft, pneumatic hiss. "So this is the hidden treasure of Obsidian Vanguard," a sharp, melodic voice announced from the threshold. Sia turned her head slowly, her eyes widening as the high commander’s daughter walked into the room. The second wife was striking, dressed in a tailored scarlet dress that matched the sharp, calculated brilliance in her dark eyes. Her dark hair was styled into a flawless, intricate knot, and her lips were painted a deep crimson that curved into a mocking smile. She did not look like a woman forced into a political arrangement, she moved with the supreme confidence of a predator entering a new territory. "Elena," Sean said, his deep voice remaining entirely flat as he stepped forward to intercept her. He did not offer his hand, nor did he alter his cold expression. "You are exactly on time." "My father taught me that punctuality is the first step to conquering an opponent, Mr. Vane," Elena replied, her high heels clicking loudly against the polished floor as she bypassed Sean completely, her gaze locking onto Sia. She stopped just two feet away, her eyes scanning Sia’s simple dress with an expression of polished disdain. "Though I must say, I expected the primary wife of the city’s most mysterious billionaire to look a bit more elite, rather than a lower-sector stray." "Watch your tongue in this house, Elena," Sean warned, his tone dropping into a dangerous, low rumble that made the security guards at the door shift their stance. He walked over, his large frame casting a long shadow over both women, but his physical alignment remained firmly behind Sia. "Sia is the mistress of this estate. Your presence here is a strategic alliance, nothing more." Elena laughed, a light, musical sound that lacked any genuine warmth. She raised a delicate hand to adjust the silver neural link resting behind her ear. "Of course, husband. But an alliance means we share the throne, does it not? I intend to make myself very comfortable in your beautiful fortress." "You will stay in the eastern wing," Sean stated coldly, his eyes narrowing into slits. "Your access codes are restricted to that sector. If you attempt to bypass the security matrix or approach the central archive, Gumay will remove you permanently." "A prison with beautiful curtains is still a prison, Sean," Sia whispered, her voice laced with bitterness as she looked between the two of them. She felt sick to her stomach, trapped between a man who claimed to protect her by chaining her and a woman who wanted to destroy them both from within. "You brought a viper into our home, and now you expect me to sit at the same table with her." Elena smiled, her eyes flashing with a manipulative spark as she stepped closer to Sia, her voice dripping with false sympathy. "Oh, do not be so dramatic, my dear primary wife. In the upper spires, marriage is just another business contract. If you play your cards right, we might actually enjoy destroying our husband together." "Sia does not play games," Sean intervened harshly, his left hand reaching out to grab Sia’s arm, pulling her firmly against his side in a display of absolute possession. He looked down at Elena with a gaze that could freeze blood. "And you will find that trying to manipulate my household will only result in your own undoing. Gumay, escort the second lady to her quarters." Gumay stepped forward from the shadows of the corridor, his hand resting on his tactical belt. "This way, Lady Elena." Elena offered one last, lingering look at Sean’s tight grip on Sia’s arm, her smile sharpening with a realization that she had found his true vulnerability. "Until dinner, then, my lovely family." As the doors closed behind Elena and the guard, the tension in the room did not dissipate, it shifted into a suffocating cloud. Sia forcefully pulled her arm out of Sean’s grasp, taking three steps away from him. Her breathing was shallow, her mind spinning as she looked at the security monitors on the wall, which already showed Elena’s movement being tracked by a dozen red target grids. "She knows," Sia said, her voice trembling with rising panic. "She already sees that I am your weakness, Sean. Every time you hold me like that in front of her, you are putting a target on my back." "I hold you because you belong to me, Sia," Sean answered, his parau voice filled with a desperate, dark intensity as he closed the distance between them again. He reached out, his large hands framing her face, his thumbs pressing against her cheekbones with an unyielding pressure. "Elena is a spy for the shadow faction, yes. But she is trapped here under my system. The security matrix of this mansion is entirely under my control. No data leaves this house without my authorization." "You have locked both of us in a labyrinth," Sia cried out softly, tears of frustration finally blurring her vision. "You treat her like an enemy prisoner and you treat me like a prize prisoner, but the bars are exactly the same. I cannot breathe in this place anymore." "I am protecting you," Sean roared, his composure cracking for a split second, revealing the raw, fractured psyche of the man who had been pulverized in the mud of The Sump. His grip on her shoulders tightened, his eyes dark with a terrifying possessiveness. "If I let you walk out those gates, they will butcher you to get to me. I would rather see you hate me from inside these walls than see your corpse in a drainage ditch. You are staying, Sia. Both of you are staying under my rule." "You are becoming just like the people who betrayed you," Sia whispered, her words cutting through his anger like a knife. Sean went rigid, his hands slowly dropping from her face. His expression smoothed back into the cold, emotionless mask of the ghost CEO. He turned his back to her, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored suit with precise, robotic movements. "Dinner is at eight," Sean said, his voice completely flat once more. "You will be there, Sia. We must maintain the illusion of a functional household for the external scanners." The hours passed like a slow crawl toward an execution. Sia spent the afternoon pacing the confines of her private courtyard in the western wing. Every time she approached the glass boundaries, a soft blue light would flash, indicating that the biometric shield was active and monitoring her vital signs. She was surrounded by luxury, by rare plants imported from the upper colonies and fountains of purified water, but the constant hum of the security drones overhead reminded her of her true status. By the time the digital clock on the wall shifted to eight, the mansion’s automated systems dimmed the main lights, creating an atmosphere of artificial romance in the grand dining hall. A massive obsidian table stretched across the room, loaded with delicacies that could buy a lower-sector district for a month. Sean sat at the head of the table, an imposing figure of absolute authority. Elena sat to his left, her red dress gleaming in the low light, while Sia took her seat to his right, feeling like a ghost at her own funeral. "The synthetic venison is exquisite, Sean," Elena remarked, her fork cutting through the meat with delicate precision. "My father was wondering if Obsidian Vanguard would be willing to sponsor the new security grid for the council chambers next month." "My capital is currently tied up in infrastructure development for the lower sectors," Sean replied, his voice a deep rasp that brooked no argument. He did not look at her, his eyes fixed firmly on Sia, who had not touched her plate. "Eat, Sia. Your neural readouts show your glucose levels are dropping." Sia looked up, her gaze locking with his cold eyes. "I am not hungry, Sean." "I did not ask if you were hungry," Sean stated, his voice quiet but carrying an absolute dictate that made the air in the room turn cold. "I told you to eat." Elena leaned back in her chair, her eyes darting between the two of them with an amused, cat-like curiosity. "My, my, such an affectionate husband. You treat her like a fragile glass doll, Sean. Tell me, does she know about the real reasons behind your sudden rise to power, or do you keep her completely in the dark?" "My business is my own, Elena," Sean said, his left hand coming down onto the table with a solid thud that caused the crystal glasses to rattle. "And you would do well to remember your place as a guest in this house." "A wife is never a guest, Sean," Elena whispered, her voice dropping its playful tone, replacing it with a manipulative, sharp edge. She leaned forward, her eyes locking onto Sia with a venomous intent. "And sometimes, a husband’s secrets are far more dangerous to the primary wife than the enemies outside the gates. Are you sure you know who you are sleeping next to, Sia?" Sia felt a cold bead of sweat roll down her neck as she stared back at the second wife. The psychological warfare in the mansion was reaching a boiling point, and she was trapped right in the center of the labyrinth. She looked at Sean, whose face was completely unreadable, his jaw clenched so tightly that the synthetic seam lines on his cheek turned white. "The dinner is over," Sean announced suddenly, standing up from his chair and towering over the table like a dark deity. He looked down at Elena, his voice carrying a chilling finality. "Return to your wing, Elena. Gumay will ensure your doors are locked from the outside for the rest of the evening." Elena stood up smoothly, smoothing her dress without a hint of fear. "As you wish, husband. But the walls of this mansion cannot hide the truth forever." As Elena walked out, her laughter echoing down the corridor, Sean turned his gaze back to Sia, his eyes burning with a possessive madness that seemed to grow with every passing hour. He walked around the table, stopping right behind her chair, his hands descending onto her shoulders like heavy iron weights. "Tomorrow, I am changing the security protocols," Sean whispered into her ear, his parau voice sending a shiver through her entire body. "No one talks to you without my presence, Sia. I will completely cut off your access to the outer communications." Sia closed her eyes, realizing that the trap was closing completely around her. She needed to find a way out, she needed to find the truth before Sean’s madness consumed her entirely. "Why are you doing this to me, Sean?" Sia asked, her voice a broken whisper in the dark room. Sean leaned closer, his lips almost touching her ear as he delivered his absolute verdict. "Because the records of your past have just been flagged by the shadow faction, and I will tear down this entire city before I let them discover who your father really is."
