Amelia’s POV:
Another morning means another day of survival. Quiel offers me a ride to school which I happily accepted but told me to stop over so no student would see me get out of his car. Alexa and Madi would greet me. They would talk about the song and I still don’t have a partner. In short, today was just normal. Well, not at all. It was our lunch time, Madi and Alexa would have to plan their song and since they are the first one to get there, I need to find another.
I was about to talk away when Quiel called my name. “Amelia” He yelled and people started too looked at me. “Yes?” I asked as I walked towards him. Quiel didn’t say a word but just put my tray down. “You can seat next to me. “ He said, removing the foods on my tray. With the look on my face, he can tell that I will decline so he cut. “Again, I would not take no for answer.” He smirked. Guess I have no choice at all.
As I was seated, I can still tell that people are looking at me. Does it matter if I seat next to him? It does matter. Forget what I’ve said. I gave a cake to Quiel as a gift for his mom; however, he insists that I should give to her personally. Can’t argue with that,
That night Quiel and I were up until 11:30 pm trying to finish his studies. My action plan is just the same. I will give him some pointers to review; he will read those while I write some question. We also did the one on one, in where I would ask questions and within a minute he needs to answer it. It was able to get the answers correct. I really felt confident that he will get a perfect score on tomorrow’s exam.
The next day was the moment of truth. Quiel was so nervous he couldn’t say a word. “Relax Quiel, you will be fine. All you need to do is stay focus. I assure you that you will pass the exam.” I said with pure confidence.
“What if I forget everything? What if I got blanked? What if I have no answers? What if I failed and won’t be able to play.” He said with a panic voice. “What if you stop worrying and just focus?” I said, trying to calm him down.
Quiel doesn’t seem to hear me so I grab his face to help him snap out of his thought. “You can do this. You and I both studied for this. You ace the question that I gave you. Remember, 70% percent of the question that I gave you will part of the exam.
How do I know? Those were the important things on the lesson. The pointers to review are all focus on our topic that appears on our mini test. So there is a big percent that it will be asked on our exam. While helping Quiel on getting back his focus, I notice that our faces were almost an inch away from each other. Oops, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to do it.
I can smell his perfume by the way.
After realizing it, I quickly pull away from him. “Remember, keep calm and stay focused.” I smiled. Quiel was about to say something when the bell rang indicating the exams are now beginning. “You can do it.” I smiled and he nodded before going to his class.
Hour passed by and this week’s exam were now over. We are outside the hallway waiting for the results. The results will determine if Quiel will be able to play tomorrow. “How did it go?” I asked a very nervous Quiel. “To be honest, I knew some of the answers. Some of them were in your question but I think I got the answered mixed up.” He said, still nervous.
Suddenly, two of our teachers came outside pulling a board the results. Student came quickly search for their names. Quiel and I also went to the board to look for our names. But we couldn’t find them. We were able to locate Nathan’s name but not Madi’s name.
There are two reasons if your name was not included in the board. One is you fail the exam or you are one of the students who got the highest score. “My name is not on the list Amelia, I can’t it find it. “ Quiel said as he looked at me. He really looks sad. With his effort that he had put, he must be disappointed.
I was about to open my mouth when our teacher called our attention. “Attention students, I will now announce the students who got the highest score.” Mr. Bloomfield said.” I will be starting with highest average of 100%. Congratulations to Ms. Amelia Royale.” He said. People started clapping and congratulating me. Quiel also congratulates me, but I can tell that he is still sad.
“The second highest student who an average of 99%, is no other than Ms. Madison Whites.” He yelled and students start clapping. “Madi did nice too.” Quiel said with a sad voice. “And last but not the least, for the first time ever, this student got an average score of 98.9%. Believe me, the teachers and I couldn’t believe it.” Mr. Bloomfield said and students started to laugh. “This student is non-other than Mr. Ezequiel Adams.” He yelled.
And, just like the teacher’s reaction, the student has the same face as well especially the person himself, Ezequiel Adams. “I pass?” He asked Mr. Bloomfield, still shocked. Mr. Bloomfield nodded and Quiel asked again. “I really passed the exam?” Mr. Bloomfield nodded again.
“I passed!” Quiel said. “I passed the exam.” This time Quiel couldn’t contain his happiness and started screaming. “I passed” He yelled and the other student’s started clapping and congratulating him. “I passed.” Quiel said to me with a happy face. “I passed.” He said again. Without warning, he gave me a hug.
I was shocked from his sudden action but I felt something. I can feel my heart beating fast. Thug! Thug! Thug! Thug! It was beating so fast, I don’t know what to do. I was standing there, shocked. Quiel suddenly let go of him and started to give a high five to his basketball.
Coach Fredrick came to congratulate Quiel and announces that he will be playing on tomorrow’s game. Quiel was happy about the announcement; he came to me and gave me another hug. Thug! Thug! Thug! Thug! There it is again.
“I passed” Quiel said. You can still see the happy face printed on his face. While I on the other hand, was standing there with my mouth open. “Amelia! Amelia” Quiel which made me come back to my senses. “Huh?” I said. “I passed.” Quiel smiled. “You did.” I said, not taking my eyes off him. “I will be playing on tomorrow’s game.” He said. “Congratulation” I smiled. He did it. He passed the exam.
“All thanks to you.” He smiled….
“Congratulations dear.” Mrs. Adams said. I can tell she was also happy. “I can’t thank you enough Amelia. You are truly an angel. Quiel is so lucky to have you.” Quiel was so happy, he told to come by to his house to celebrate. He ordered pizza, fries, burger and mangoes. In short, he orders our favorites.
“You don’t have to thank me Mrs. Adams.” I smiled. “I did nothing. Quiel did this all by himself.” I said with full honesty. “By the way, this is for you.” I smiled as I hand her the cake. “I hope you like red velvet. I baked those as a thank you gift.”
“Red velvet cakes are my favorites.” Mrs. Adams said as she took them. “I can’t wait to try them. Can I taste them now?” She asked and I nodded. Mrs. Adams grabs a fork and tasted the cake. “Hmmm” she moaned. “This cake is so delicious.”
“Thanks. I’m glad that you like them.” I said. Our conversation was interrupt when my phone rang. I looked at the caller and was shocked when I saw the name. “Mom”
